Professional Install or Me?

I am in the final stages of a renovation. It has been prewired for sound, controllers, CCTV.
Would I be able to use iRule, along with other companies (HTD referred me to iRule), to automate my house?
The house is roughed in as follows:

5 zones inside (4 with stereo and 1 with 7.1)
2 zones outside (stereo)
CCTV at front and rear entrance
All wires home run into mechanical room

I have 3 Professional quotes in hand (equipment and install). 2 Control4 and 1 Elan

Would like to:

Have sound in all zones. Prefer to control each zone independently for music being played.
When TV on be able to turn other zones off or not.
Control lighting via hand held (controller, iPhone, Android)
Control Hunter Douglas shades (controller, iPhone, Android)

Is this a realistic project for a DIY?

Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks

David

  • Do you have any programming experience with remote control setups? This project can definitely be controlled using iRule, but I would suggest contacting a dealer for the installation if you have done no remote programming before.

We have a dealer locator page here: http://iruleathome.com/dealer-locator

    I appreciate your quick reply.

    1. I have done set up on remotes of different types. I looked at a Youtube setup and it appeared pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, as I am in Calgary, Canada you have no shops near by to assist.
    2. Would your remotes work with most hardware? I mentioned HTD!

    Thanks again.

  • David,

Our system works with most devices. If you are controlling equipment over IR and you cannot find the necessary driver in our database, you can always learn the commands and add them to your setup. If you are looking for control of equipment via IP or RS232 but you cannot find the driver you can submit a device request. All we ask is for a device protocol to submitted along with the request so we have something to build the commands from.

We do have commands for HTD in our database for the Lync, Lync 12, MC and MCA devices.

You can also create a 30 day trial on our website under Get the Software and that will allow you to browse our database for the devices you are looking to control.
