"Movies you both might like" should recommend NEW movies for both

On the "Movies you both might like", Jinni lists movies which I and the other person (follower or following) have already been voted!
Isn't it supposed to recommend new movies we both might like?

myusername - this is a good question.

The feature should show a mix of movies you've already seen and movies you haven't seen. The idea is that the movies you've already seen help explain your shared tastes, while the movies you haven't seen are suggestions of what you might enjoy.

We're planning to develop a "group recommendations" feature that will allow two or more users to get recommendations of movies that would fit both their tastes (I think this is what you're describing that you would like to see?). Stay tuned!

Well, regarding all filtering options, and also within the "shared recommendations" - you'll see many improvements in the upcoming new website. Only a couple of months away.. :)

Awesome. Incidentally, I was wondering about something else. Will you be able to see a list of all of someone else's ratings, similar to how you can browse through all of your own ratings? As it is, when you go to the url of such a list for another user, it asks you to log in to the site (even if you are already logged in) and you can't ever get there. If privacy is the concern, perhaps it could be an option to a user whether (and to whom) they want to allow visibility of their ratings list (as well as other pages, besides their public profile).

Privacy is exactly the key word here ;) Yes, we will enable clearer profile pages on the new jinni.com, and so we will, of course, have more detailed privacy settings. So.. you will be able to see other users activities on Jinni, but this will be dependant on their privacy settings and if they allow you to. :)

Right, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I personally am not that much concerned with my own privacy in this regard (sharing is more important to me), and so I would like to be able to share my voting history with other users. But I understand the need for privacy, and it even makes sense to have the default as "not visible to other users", in this case. I'm looking forward to having that option, though.

By the way, I think it might be a good idea regardless to make it so that the site gives you a message that you're trying to view a user's personal profile (while the person hasn't allowed that in their settings, although that part would/could only be added after this option is incorporated), perhaps adding the suggestion that you would have to log in as the user whose profile you were attempting to view if you wanted to get to said profile, instead of it bringing you to a page asking you to log in, even if you already are logged in (and just returning you to that page if you attempt to log in via that page regardless). It took me a few tries before I figured out what was going on.

I think listing movies which i have already seen is confusing and not useful. Movies the other person has seen is ok though.

I looks like it would be useful to distinguish

"movies you both like"
"movies you both MIGHT like"

This still seems to be an issue. When I try to find a movie a friend and I might both like, it shows me a bunch of movies I have already seen. Not very useful when I am trying to find a movie we can both enjoy for the first time.

Can you PLEASE resolve this! The iPad app is great, but appears even more limited than the website in that it can't even filter out movies I have already seen from the general searches!
