Can't boot, ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/XXXXXXXX does not exit. Dropping to a shell!

This is the error I get when I try to boot jolicloud (it's setup as booting from within a file stored on a windows drive). I'm not sure what went wrong here, as I don't think I changed anything. It just started happening all of a sudden.

After doing some searching a lot of similar problems (not jolicloud specific though) were resolved by increasing the timeout, which was not the case for me. If I wait in busybox and then type exit I immediately get the same error.

Primarily, I'd like to fix this, but if I can't I'd at least like to know how I can get the data off my jolicloud "file" root.disk on my WinXP partition.

Thanks for any help!

I figured out the issue, it was due to a somehow corrupt partition table. I went into fdisk and notice the partition table, although it was displaying correctly, was getting some warnings. All I did was 'w'rite the table to disk (since it was displaying correctly) and rebooted, this fixed the problem.

This same issue happened to me when the current kernel version went past 2.6.32.7. For some reason, once I went back to 2.6.32.6 from that point on, the same issue occurred. The only way to solve this issue for me was to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change my boot configuration from something like this:

title Jolicloud robby, kernel 2.6.32.6-candela
uuid 874671f5-3f0f-4c44-86c2-33c7f9e41764
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32.6-candela root=UUID=874671f5-3f0f-4c44-86c2-33c7f9e41764 ro quiet splash
quiet

To something like this:

title Jolicloud robby, kernel 2.6.32.6-candela
uuid 874671f5-3f0f-4c44-86c2-33c7f9e41764
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32.6-candela ro quiet splash
quiet

Taking out the root/UUID solved the issue and booted correctly, but disabled usplash. However, after doing this, my system works again.

I cannot guarantee that this will work for anyone else, so do this at your own risk.

I would love to edit my grub but it would't let me boot up into jolicloud at all. I tried doing it via usb live boot but couldn't find the partition/grub file

It should be in /boot/grub/menu.lst. This is made much more difficult to do if you have an Express installation, however, and I'm not sure how you would reach it if you do.
