Nope, no drivers should be needed. First things first, can you tell me what kernel version you're using? If you don't know, check in a terminal window with the command:

uname -r

This will help me determine if your system is up to date or not.

Your system is out of date. VERY out of date. Please download and install this package on your netbook (transfer it with a flash drive if you can't access the internet on the netbook)

http://apt-int.jolicloud.org/pool/mai...

This should solve the issue after a reboot.

Alright, keep me updated. After you get the wireless to work, be sure to update the rest of your system.

Hi,

First, you maybe know you have a brand new Pine Trail netbook.
Pine Trail support is in production since the last week. You can read more details in our blog-post.
Be aware once your system is up-to-date, you have 2D/3D acceleration.
For now, your user exeperience is probably not very enjoyable.

You maybe have new Wifi and Ethernet card never seen on the market.
It would be great to post the outpout of the following command:
$ sudo lspci -v -nn

I don't know if he can actually post the complete output of lspci if there is no network connection. :) Grepping for the device class is easier to type by hand into GS as only two lines are returned. Besides, I didn't see your post here anyway ;)

Just to make sure that your Mini 5102 isn't different from what we've seen before, I need to confirm if your wifi/ethernet chipset. Can you run the following terminal command:

$ lspci -v -nn | grep '\[02.0\]'

Two lines should be returned, a "Network controller" and "Ethernet controller". Please copy both lines in their entirety here.

Thx

using adam's recommended command (its the shorter thing i have to type up, since internet doesnt work, there's no way for me to copy and paste all of the other command's response anywhere) i got back:

01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 100 Series [8086:0084]
43:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Device [11ab:4381] (rev 11)

Thanks

Interesting. Your wifi chipset should be supported, but your ethernet is completely new.

The closest driver I could find to match your ethernet is the sky2 module: "Marvell Yukon 2 Gigabit ethernet driver", but it's never heard of 4381.

Your wifi is likely failing because of a firmware issue in the iwlagn module, that problem is likely easier to fix.

I'll need to do some research on this, but I cannot promise a quick turnaround (we're in crunch time right now for our next release). In the mean time, can you email feedback@jolicloud so I can get some direct contact info?

Thx

Sorry for the delay!

A fix for the Wifi has been pushed in production.
Because your Ethernet connection doesn't work, you probably have to wait the new ISO.
It will be available shortly!

Works OK - report from an HP Mini 5102 model VQ674EA; Wifi chip: Broadcom BCM4353; Ethernet chip: Marvell Yukon 88E8059; kernel: 2.6.32.9-1-jolicloud:

1. WiFi works right out-of-the-box (also on the original Jolicloud Express kernel 2.6.32-1-jolicloud)

2. Ethernet did not originally work. Now works with a driver downloaded from Marvell and some adjustments to make it compile:

2.1. Download the Marvell Yukon driver from http://www.marvell.com/support.html: select part number 88E8059 under Drivers, follow Search, select "Kernel 2.6.x Linux Driver Install Package for Yukon Devices" and download the file (filename is install_v10.84.3.3.tar.tar)

2.2. Untar the downloaded file

2.3. Edit file DriverInstall/install.sh: in line 1 replace 'sh' by 'bash'

2.4. Untar and unbzip file sk98lin.tar.bz2 and edit file 2.6/skge.c from it: after line 67 add the following line:

#include

then tar and bzip the files back to file sk98lin.tar.bz2

2.5. create some links (as root):

cd /usr/src
ln -s linux-headers-2.6.32.9-1-jolicloud linux
cd /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-1-jolicloud
ln -s build source

2.6. invoke (as root) the script from file DriverInstall/install.sh; when prompted, select the following options:
- installation mode (rather than patch generation mode)
- if warned about an older driver present: deactivate old driver

That's all.

Correction: the process of sending my reply somehow cut part of the #include line that has to be added to file skge.c. The line should read:

#include &lt linux/sched.h &gt

Have the same problem with wired connections on hp compaq mini 110c. WiFi works fine out-of-box but cableconnection won't.
sudo lspci -v -nn says:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Attansic Technology Corp. Device [1969:1062] (rev c0)
......
Kernel driver in use: atl1c

any suggestions to make wired internet run?

thank's

hi K.Romanowski

i can 't get my 5102 work on wired..

i followed the create link procedures.

2.5. create some links (as root):

cd /usr/src
ln -s linux-headers-2.6.32.9-1-jolicloud linux
cd /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-1-jolicloud
ln -s build source

but finally failed in kernel header files....what do do next?

Check kernel gcc version (4.3.3) (Kernel:4.3.3 == gcc:4.3.3) [ OK ]
Check sk98lin driver availability (not loaded) [ OK ]
Check kernel header files (not found) [ failed ]
Kernel header not found. Please install the linux header files
development package or create a symbolic link from the
/usr/src/KERNEL_VERSION directory to linux
Example: ln -s /usr/src/KERNEL_VERSION /usr/src/linux

Hi,

Can you confirm you're running Joli OS 1.2?

That said, when you say IE, do you mean Microsoft Internet Explorer or do you mean the default Browser (which is Chromium, the open source version of Google Chrome)?

If you're talking about Internet Explorer, it's not compatible with Joli OS (despite many Windows apps work under Joli OS using Wine, an add-on available within the App Center).

If you're talking about the default Browser, did you try to connect on another network?
You can also try to run the Jolicloud Restore Utility.

Hey guys hope this thread is still active. bought a second hand very good condition hp mini 5102 but the wireless and Ethernet just doesn't seem to work.

when i tried to choose the option "set uo a new connection" it said WIndows did not detect any networking hardware. when i opened device manager, and clicked on device manager, there are yellow exclamation marks on 'network controller', 'unknown device', and 'video controller'.

any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

On a Working, windows computer... go to THIS website - for Windows drivers for your computer...

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/...

Download (and unzip if needed) the drivers you need... Make sure you download the CORRECT ones for your O.S (e.g. Win 7 Starter or Premium - Win XP)...

Transfer to your Laptop (USB Stick probably) and install...

Hope this was helpful...

When running properly...
why not go to

http://www.jolicloud.com/jolios

Have a read, see if you are adventurous and download the "Keep Windows"
version - which will let you try JoliOS, a Linux based and cost free OS on your windows computer...

It will install JoliOS IN A FOLDER, (usually on the C:\ Drive and if you don't like it just uninstall it from Programs and Features IN WINDOWS

An OS that boots in about a minute and closes down in less than 1/2 minute.. Windows will never seem the same again

Hi,

Just in case, check the startup topic in our Knowledge Base: How do I use Joli OS for the first time?

Regarding any Wifi issue, check that topic: My Wifi doesn't work
