"You love this track and have scrobbled it 73 times."

Then why are you recommending it to me?!

I've been wondering the same thing. No point in recommending things already in the library...

previous recommendations were awesome, now they're very limited and it's stuff I already like, have they changed algorithms? hope not.

It's supposed to be "re-discovering old favorites". It's pointless.

Yeah, Ryan, there's not a very good algorithm to it. I wouldn't find if it was a separate page like that Blast From a Past page we had on the old site, but it's pointless to put them with the "recommendations" when you've practically already heard them.

Yeah, 'blast from the past' was pretty cool, I would like to see it back again as a separate feature. That stuff does not belong in the recommendations section, however.

when i first saw this page on the beta site, i thought "thank **** it doesn't affect me because i use the API which returns 250 artists not in your library".

of course last.fm then went on to break the API so i can't even use that any more. marvellous...

I hope that during the beta the recommendation of already scrobbled artists and albums gets moved elsewhere. Right now it "blocks" recommendations of new artists and albums.
Additionally, I hope for a possibility to change some recommendation parameters, like chossing a particular time period (for albums). This way the recommendation feature can be used to keep track of newly released albums.

I agree.  This is quite broken as I also get recommended more of what I already listen (have listened) to than new artists, albums, or tracks.  I want new, un-listened to, not in my library recommendations.

I don't know, I quite like the idea of seeing something I've long forgotten about, then starting to hum it, then finally going to put the song on. I can see what they tried to do there and why.

But I don't like it when I can't separate "the nostalgia lane" from my "real" brand new recommendations and I don't like that what actually shows up on the home page is fresh from yesterday, not from months ago.

I also hate the new album recommendations - most of the albums for most of the artists are not even official releases. They're bootlegs or home recordings or something else I would never even listen to. So the said recommendations just sit there on the home page and take up space, saying "You've scrobbled this artist before, but not this release". That's right, and I never will. Dismissed!
Oh wait... I can't even dismiss it. Sad.

Recommendations used to be one of the best parts of the site.  When they broke it, they sure made sure they broke everything.

is there any plan to fix recommendations? not only was the old recommendation layout more usable (e.g. filter by tag, tag recommendation radio), but even the flow/alignment is often incorrect. It makes it very hard to get any useful information out of it. And then it's a track I already play (as described above).

I'd also really like to see recommendations based on time (e.g. rising/new things I also might like) or time + friends (e.g. things my friends like which I haven't heard. new things my friends like).

Bump.

What's the point of recommending something that's already in my library? 90% of my recommendations are just that.

Well, you guys should check out my app. I made an app that takes Last.fm "radio" and puts it into a format you can then paste into Spotify. This allows you to use Spotify's "remove duplicates" option when adding to a playlist to get fresh recommendations. I created the app to at least temporarily make up for lack of mobile radio. I think you guys might like it

The idea is you make a playlist from the "radio" and it still gives you new results because ultimately it's based on your scrobbles, and as you scrobble you'll get new recommendations. So, you play the playlist you make from this application, then go back to the app and add more, thereby allowing a sort of "mobile radio."
