Age and gender info?

I'm just wondering if your age and gender will still appear alongside your name, or will that no longer be a feature? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your question.

I'm afraid this is still to be determined -- I'll follow up when I have more information on this.

Why the hell are you even considering not bringing this back? Did anyone ever complain about this? Why throw out something everybody seemed to like and why not fix real problems we have been asking for years? You guys seriously need to do some firing.

How hard would it be to implement this, anyway?

Apart from this, which I agree should be re-implemented, why are we still able to put in a homepage URL on the "settings" page when the link no longer displays anywhere on the profile page? What's the point of having an option for something that doesn't actually exist (and why does it no longer exist)?

Well said wizard. I've been here 10 years, since 2005, and am hugely disappointed with the new changes. Killed all the customization which brought me here in the first place. Can't use custom artists, can't change the amount of top artists shown, many thumbnails missing, personal info and friend info pretty much killed. This has destroyed literally everything I liked about the site.

Really, it looks like you re-started the site with no complete vision of it... Sad and disappointing.

I just noticed no nationality is shown either.  I liked seeing that before.

Yes, I liked that feature too. Representing this by a small flag could look decent.

@Joe I suppose it could be whichever you choose, it always was anyway.

And even the "last seen" option was sometimes useful. Why take all that info away?

Personally, I have quite enough privacy and security concerns about my REAL NAME appearing so prominently on my page; why the hell would I want to tell everyone my age, nationality and gender to make it EVEN EASIER for people to track me down?  If they do bring this back they REALLY need to make it optional or even if its the default to give you the option of disabling it.   Which they don't seem to be giving us that option for anything else we don't like about our new homepages so why should I hold my breath for that one?

Well said, Jess. In fact if you look up this guy on last.fm, he actually seems to have his real first and last name on the profile. In that case you deserve to be tracked down, mister.

Haha, really? I'll take the guy as a troll then. Or someone who doesn't realise putting your full name isn't necessary. In which case he's probably a bit dim, and we should leave him be.

Yes I am apparently a bit dim.  Please inform where on the site I was supposed to have been told that you could shut off the name display.  But yes, it was my stupid not to think of making up a name.

Hey Dan, no hard feelings! You simply don't have to enter your name etc, and it won't show up. Don't worry - you're not dim.

Yes, if you couldn't see that by yourself, you are indeed a bit dim.

it's probably too politically incorrect to include that in the profile LOL

How hard does something as simple as age, gender and country by the name should  take? Sounds pretty easy to reimplement..

A suggestion I saw on another thread - not exactly the same, granted, but you could stick something like this in your About Me:

Gertrude - Lapland - Female - 74

Replace the dashes with stars, pipes, whatever. I've not tested if that box is emoji compatible. Maybe even:

OK, So after a few tries, I've established that GetSatisfaction doesn't like Emojis. It seems to delete them after a refresh.

Anyways, my point was, combine that cool dot with the stuff here: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/about-me-box-supports-emojis

...and make yourself a (sort of) personalised about me! Woohoo!

That's nice and all, but for people who already have About Me's that they had to reduce with this 200 character limit they are out of luck to display both sets of information when it wasn't so before. Such a small amount of textual personalization to remove, not sure why.

You could just put all that in the name field, if it's that important to you.

I would like to see this come back... I have found that little info has helped me in the past.

@LogainTB that looks fine for now of course and probably the better option. Just seems like a questioning of another instance of removing small personalization features for unknown reasons which has clearly happened in other instances.

I found a small privacy bug related to this. The API exposes both gender and age, but neither of them are editable on the profile page. So they are whatever they were in pre-beta. Although it seems like age is '0' for all profiles I've queried (I don't remember if mine was set, so can't confirm). It seems pedantic but I was really interested in re-doing the gender-age plots that used to be in the old playground (but were really outdated). So enabling and allowing editing on the profile page would be my vote :) .

I put it under "display name" for now.
