An option to choose which artist photo will display on our profile

  • Under Consideration
As most people should know, the image voting system is awful on this site. Since we don't know how long the issue of people creating fake accounts to up-vote photos will last, there should be an option for changing which artist photo displays on our profile.
Like, when a user goes to an artist page and to the photo gallery, in the voting section, there can be a button like: "Pin this on my profile" and that way whenever they appear under top artists, that is the photo you see on your page. Doing this could actually stop people from making fake profiles now that I think about it... If everyone can finally be happy about what artist photo they see, no sense in crazily up-voting photos with multiple accounts.

Secondly, there should be a formula to how votes count, like votes from 5 years ago shouldn't still be as strong as recent votes, the same way popular search results work. For artists who aren't mainstream, the photo gallery is stuck in this rut where new fans are constantly up-voting all the old photos and newly added photos are never seen.

Official Response
Sorry, I realised there was no 'official' response to this.  To summarise my comments here and elsewhere in this thread, this feature has always been heavily requested by users and is very much under consideration by the product team for the future (i.e. when development resources are less strained than they are currently).  However, given that it's a profile customisation feature, it's quite likely that this feature would be offered as a subscriber perk, so please don't be surprised if that's what happens (more information about that here).

An idea for some problematic album pages is deleting wrong covers, leaving only the right option and closing the upload section. That would be nice, people would stop changing it constantly.

This is an absolute necessity.

"for the future" isn't good enough.

people upload porn and disturbing images that appear on our profiles. they control pages. and you guys don't always fix it, in fact, you never do anything about it at all aside from maybe removing an offensive image or two occasionally. this is not OK. we don't want this trash appearing on our profiles. this needs a fix ASAP.

If you'd clicked on "comment" under Jon's (rather than the general "write a reply" box), your response would have been directly associated to his to clear up any confusion, just for future reference.

That said, I'm not sure what point kloshar was trying to make since this thread is still open for discussion.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled fake accounts controlling pages.

Can you PLEASE implement an option ASAP so that we can pick the artist image on our profiles???? so many pages are controlled by fake accounts who keep voting down any new images. for example:

https://www.last.fm/music/Nine+Inch+Nails/+images/20d9729683904ee499f6079f0de188d3

https://www.last.fm/music/Goldfrapp/+images/6f6ebf2c251c4d48877ae1a34eb2a0e7

those pages are attacked DAILY by the same trolls with multiple accounts who make sure that only older black & white photos are voted up. they have controlled these pages for YEARS. why are you not doing anything about it??? give us the option to choose what appears on our profiles.

I've seen these complaints so many times about the NIN photos - I don't really listen to the band but try and upvote the new photos when I remember :)

Yeah I'm really hoping we get this option added. D:

The default photo for Glittertind has been a nice current photo for a good few months now, and then today I sign in, and all the band photos have been downvoted by like ten/fifteen (I'm assuming fake, since the newer photos only ever had one or two downvotes until today?) accounts, and have been replaced with old photos that don't really represent the band any more. Which is kinda annoying but what can you do? Most of the artists I listen to don't have massive followings so it doesn't take much for the images to be changed and then I can't get them back because I used my one vote. :/

Next year we're hoping to focus on new features for subscribers, and this particular feature has been mentioned several times in meetings as a possible candidate (as discussed before).  No definite promises yet, but please stay tuned for future updates.

So, as of almost 1 year since the devs replied, is this feature in the works, planned or just thrown out of the window?

I’m pretty sure 90%+ of the Last Community Want this feature. Here is MY proposal: We can keep the voting system on the artists’ page so that EVERYONE will get a say in the main page picture BUT, on the users’ profile, we dictate what picture shows up on that specific users’ profile. It’s a win-win for both parties.

I think we, everyone who is following this loop need to be more active here. Let them know we want it. Even if it’s just a subscriber feature, I’ll GLADLY pay more than what I do now for this feature.

And we thank you developers for listening and hopefully y’all will jump on the train with the 90% of us!! Keep up the good work!

Are there any updates? I hope the Administration will implement this soon. People upload pornography and disturbing images that appear on our profiles. They control pages. The report button for images is not a good solution for our issues. They even control comments by using multiple accounts to gain hundreds of votes for their spam and comments filled with odd symbols. The report button for comments is not a solution either.

As J90 mentioned this a year ago, you don’t always fix it, unless somebody doesn’t report it to your team. You remove the inappropriate images and a comment or two occasionally. This is not OK. We don’t want this trash appearing on our profiles and artist’s pages. This needs a fix as quickly as possible. Today I reported twelve alternative accounts, out of that ten of them are hijacked by a group of trolls. This is getting out of control.

The last.fm developers do not seem interested in features people request or want (for the most part). They appear to be releasing features no one is asking for (again, for the most part). It's very odd how they got rid of so many features over the years and haven't brought back hardly any of them.

I've given up on them bring back custom profiles / about me, groups, etc, and features we've been requesting for years and years.
