Add an option to revert back to the old design, so that users that want the old design back, can use that option. This way, last.fm can keep their new design as well as keep their loyal userbase happy by doing this.

That sounds like a solution. Last.fm isn't interested in those.

Sheeza, it’s Wednesday afternoon (who set the clocks back), darn it, that’s when they hand out that cool refreshing brain tick tick-ticklin’ Sprint

Gary hit the nail perfect “a work in progress” and why toss it on us?

This 2 minute education video sums it up well

So if coding one site take for ever, how long would it take to make two?

THEY ALREADY HAD THE CODE GOD DAMNIT. Honestly I'm not even sure I would care if they had both and focused on the garbage beta for updates, as long the old one was usable. I have plenty of software that I never update because the new versions are garbage. I know the stuff that is wrong with it will never be fixed because I refuse to update but I don't care because the fix costs too much to me (Spotify is a really good example).

I could totally see Last.fm's staff just deleting their old code without even thinking about the consequences.

Maybe that's why they changed to the new design in the first place. Like a poor employee came to work and accidentally shift+deleted the entire site:

"Whoopsie, sorry guys, I guess we should rebuild the entire Last.fm from scratch."

It is not just about having to write the code. Having two independent interfaces means having to support new features and fix UI bugs in two places rather than one, forever. That would likely become a costly choice, specially when resources are stretched.

What "new features ?"

A makeover? I missed something maybe, but I am pretty sure they have taken away features.

Anyone else agree? I could be wrong. Nope: "We was Robbed"

This is why I have more faith in Listenbrainz. This is what Musicbrainz's betas are like.
https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Development/Beta_Cycle
They are open about everything they can legally be open about.
Likely to get charts and a scrobbler-like thing too. They actually listen to their users.

I don't think that's possible or necessary for that matter. The design is not the problem. Bringing back as many missing features as possible, as soon as possible should be the focus in my opinion.

It was destroyed?

Now, now, tisk, tisk, that is a fib @ above

I find it very hard to believe that management would allow that.

I just found old group sites so the foundations are there.

If the staff, project team did actually terminate the old site, with all the software under the template; then there are some really bold, stupid people planning and running this project. I don't think I need to explain that in cost effectiveness.

Two sites, one to be "recoded," there 1 & 1/2 sites at present, the old and the beta-test; the old format just needed to be updated to attract with the flash people like today, this a money move (understandable) going in wrong direction.

What do I know? I am just a user (customer?)

Yes, as far as I know the old Last.fm servers are now scrapped. Some of them was over ten years old and there is a limit on how long you can patch things up just to keep them running. Sometimes is makes more sense to start over from scratch. As the database under powering it is different it would not have been possible to keep the old software and it would have to be rewritten.

It was working in old format and it is barely working now in new format (beta) - that I do know, thx.

It's not just a design change. Everything under the hood is also new.

the new site sucks because:
  1. no neighbors
  2. no recent played pictures
  3. circle pics for the few that are there
  4. can't see friend's now playing
  5. no groups
  6. crappy charts
  7. no recommendation by genre
I could go on but there are more features missing from the site than those present.  Whatever year it is when you get the features back (I believe this is lip service and they aren't coming back) every one will be gone and there will be no point to using last.fm  (kind of like now).  The staff doesn't seem to care that they ruined something many people enjoyed and have done nothing for months to make it right.  Shame.

No Album Art

No Personal Image Uploads (“About Me”)

No Personalisation Features

Library downgrade (user unfriendly)

Hard to delete duplicate tracks

A LACK of Communication with Experienced Staff – e.g., Developer/Developers

The above (Max8845) and other’s complaints as everyone has got their own little gigs here; Including not caring, some say they like for that matter . . .the vast majority here do not like the new site for one reason or another.

This isn't entirely in order. The first 5 or 6 items are definitely in the right spots in order of importance ****imo****. The rest of it is just sort of put in as I think of it.

1. Fugly
2. No profile charts. With over 5,000 artists, a top 5 just isn't going to cut it.
3. Giant, meaningless pictures
4. Fuck pinterest (recs)
5. Extremely limited info with recs (i.e. tags(!), brief bio, and similar artist playcounts)
6. Recs now seem to be mixed in with the 'blast from the past' thing they had. This is dumb.
7. Thumbnail library gone, replaced/combined with charts page (fucking terribly)
8. Only 50 to a page for what's supposed to be an extension of profile charts.
9. Obnoxious amount of space between list items on said page. One of the stylish or greasemonkey scripts fixed this I think (it made the avatars small square thumbnails isntead and I believe but the items closer together) but it kept making firefox crash on its start so I had to disable it and it went back to obnoxious. I also originally didn't realise the script did it and wrongfully gave last.fm credit they didn't deserve.
10. Black header on 'library' page won't go the fuck away, taking up an annoying amount of space to show absolutely NOTHING.
11. Just so much fucking wasted space. (these 2 are probably due to my adblocker, they don't deserve the revenue anymore).
12. Time ranges no longer tabbed anywhere that I know of (I switched between ranges several times a day, having to do it the new way would be ridiculous)
13. Don't want the support site filled with silly off topic stuff? GET SOME FUCKING FORUMS AND SOME GROUPS. That sounds familiar, it's almost like we had them or something.
14. Search only brings up five items in each category. There's no 'more results' link
15. Top track profile header thing is dumb. The time frame should be customizable. I'm pretty sure my overall top track is not going to change for a while (it got there when I used to listen to songs back-to-back-to-back-to-back because I just loved them that much). I'd be much more interested in it being my top artist or track of the week. I do love seeing their foreheads only. If anything good came from the update, it's that.
16. Groups are worthless right now
17. Neighbours
18. API is still fucked, still can't sign up for a key.
19. Can only delete play by play. I have been wanting to be able to do this for a long time (not sure if I just managed to completely miss the ability to on the old site) but it's obnoxious when trying to clean up tags with numerous plays.
20. I'm about to get virtually slapped for having this so far down the list, but truth be told it's not what made the old site amazing to me (and was seriously fucking annoying on some pages with 10 million dumbass gifs. honestly it seems like what some people really want is a blog when they say it's what made the site so great). About me is seriously limited right now. You can't even enter a new line, it just looks like mine was written by an idiot that doesn't know what the enter key is. 200 characters, seriously? I can fit a whole 3 fucking links (one of which is shortened) and some really poorly constructed sentences on mine. I suggested this a while ago, https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/button-to-expand-about-me-section, but they don't seem to care.
21. Recently played art. I actually used to have mine just display the tracks years ago because I liked them being all scrunched up and tidy. I ended up putting it
back at some point at the suggestion of a friend but I still liked how tidy it was. But now, the list wastes so much space and looks dumb without it. If it had the same tidiness as before, I probably wouldn't have minded, maybe not even cared that they took it away.
22. Followers/following is fucking stupid by itself. I get this was for getting better recommendations, but I didn't always friend people for their music (sometimes I fucking hate all of it). Sometimes it was just because their profile picture was of a cat. Why not just have Friends | Following | Followers? I'm pretty sure Facebook has both and it works (opt-in or out I think), though it seems like it would be a bit more creepy on there.
23. The more I look at them, the fuglier the circular avatars get. They just look so fucking stupid.
24. The sidebar buttons on the left in the library are ugly and confusing. I keep managing to forget what's what in there.
25. I liked the yearly chart (or the idea of it) in the scrobbles part of the library at first, but it should not be the first thing I see. It should be off to the side or in a different section. It's also ridiculously large. I don't really care about it that much for it to be taking up so much space. The bars don't even have counts attached to them, just vague places on the chart.
26. Did I mention it's fugly?

Ugh.

Then again, we REALLY needed this, http://www.last.fm/dashboard and there had to be a tradeoff somewhere, so maybe I should just fuck off.

Yes, I believe we're all aware of this. The issue (which has been raised numerous times already) is why?

Or to put it another way, why go live with a work-in-progress?

I'm very sorry you feel this way, but this is simply not possible.  The old site ran on completely different hardware, software, and database architecture; the majority of which, including the data centres that housed them, have been decommissioned.  The pages you can still  see of the old site - namely groups, journals, and the api docs, are running on a single box, that's hosting a read only snapshot of the pages in question.  It's not possible to convert that into a fully functional site, and we wouldn't have the resources to support two sites simultaneously, even if we could.

Haven't used last.fm since new site. Used to be every day user.
