Is this problem in any way connected to my loss of nearly 300 scrobbles and approximately 125 loved tracks on Friday 3/4?  At the time it seemed from checking here that others were having that same problem but none of my have been restored and I have gotten no acknowledgement of my previous posts on this matter or been able to find any updates on progress in resolving the matter.  Thank you for any help you can be.

"Apologies for the recent stability issues that have affected the site in the last couple of days. We're aware of these and are doing everything we can to address them. Fixes for missing scrobbles/loved tracks should be available in the next day or so. Thanks for bearing with us while we get these problems straightened out."

We believe that's a separate issue.  A fix for the missing scrobbles/loved tracks should be available in the next day or so, and you track that issue here: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/nothing-scrobbling-missing-stats

I'm sorry to say we're experiencing difficulties with the api again, and this may affect scrobbling.  Thanks for bearing with us, I realise this is incredibly frustrating.

That must be the understatement of the year. I appreciate the honesty though.

I haven't been able to scrobble for about 3 hours... this seems to be a very frequent problem lately .

I'm caching tracks, one track will scrobble, then the next will cache, it's so annoying...

It's almost as if they don't want us to scrobble.

Is this related to region by chance? Still working fine for me today but was pretty crappy yesterday. In the Midwest (Nebraska)

No, we believe the issue lies with our API service, and it's affecting all users globally.

Sucks when there's a problem with an API you're using, doesn't it?

Spotify is working right now. As it Google Play Music Desktop Player. But Jon's said the outage (when it happens) is global, so perhaps it's intermittent.

Scrobbling is essentially just calling the track.scrobble endpoint on the API (http://www.last.fm/api/show/track.scrobble), so if the API is down, scrobbling is almost definitely down too.

But it's possible the API is up and scrobbling isn't working for unrelated reasons  :-(

As far as I can tell this is a load balancing issue.  I believe that Community & Customer Service Jon has mentioned that possibility elsewhere.  My observations seem to support that notion; I've been seeing intermittent scrobbling over the past few days - like maybe 25-50% of songs I'm scrobbling go through.

Alternatively, it is related to the API, which will be immensely disappointing.  At least it would be for me.  I've been harping about that damn thing for 8 months without even being acknowledged.  There is a small, bitter, vindictive part of me that actually hopes that it's the API so that I'd be able to point and say "gee, guys, perhaps closing your eyes and covering your ears wasn't exactly the most productive approach, was it?  Maybe you should have had a glance at the damn thing sometime before launch."

But again, that's the small, bitter, vindictive part of me.  It seems more likely this has to do with web server load balancing magic than anything specifically related to the API implementation.

I hadn't considered a load-balancing issue. Could be? It was a frequent issue on the old site/infrastructure.

General server load issues (that gray page was coming up all the time), caching server issues, submissions server issues, library display problems..... They're still happening, just far less frequently.

I doubt that XD. But it's very odd. Cuz the reverse happens to me. I'll have scrobbling issues (rarely) when very few people have them. So I feel ya'lls pain and I hope it resolved soon.

Mine was working again, but then the scrobbler crashed and when I reopened it, it won't recognise I'm playing any tracks at all, no matter how many times I shut it down and reopen it :/
EDIT: I had to restart my laptop to get it to work in the end!

I don't like stand alone apps for audio players, because of many problems. I just always use dll plugin in foobar, most time it works fast and stable. Yeah, i can't watch history, this is bad. But in most time, if I need to mark some new tracks, i use website.

the old site worked.  they new lost.fm really sucks, they way it looks and how it doesn't work and no neighbors anymore, whats the point?  I moved all my scrobbles to libre.fm and will scrobble to both until lastfm is a 404 page but I'll always miss the old functional site.  They new site is full of fail.  No neighbors, no groups, no users listening stat, no payer used stat, its like someone said how can we ruin last fm?  Lets delete it, and replace it with a site that doesn't function and has half of the features (me being generous, its less than half).  If I paid for last.fm I'd want my money back and I wish I had four hands to give parent company cbs four thumbs down.

iTunes is still crashing on opening for me.

I'm going to try tottaly removing the last.fm plug in and app and then re-installing iTunes and see if that works. Not a fix for scrobbling but at least I'll be able to actually listen to music!

Yep, deleting the Last.fm plug-ins from the iTunes program files worked without needing to re-install iTunes. So I reccomend that as a fix for iTunes.  (and confirms it's definitely the Last.fm scrobbler causing the issue)

Does anyone know what to do to install Last.fm without it crashing iTunes? Seems we've had at max about 2 months un-interrupted use of the desktop scrobbler over the last couple of years without something going wrong. How can it keep breaking!?

I probably should've mentioned when I said that I've been having no issues, that I exclusively use the desktop client on Windows 10 64-bit with Foobar2000

The worse thing is; it has taken the fun out of listening to the music, I have to manually babysit what works, and I stopped what for me seems like waste of time. It is not that important, mark it, listen when things are working.

Last-FM has a message up they are working with CBSI; CBSI had nothing to report?

Nevertheless, maybe a stroke of luck or some homeostasis returning (it worked better late today on the web-scrobbler for chrome), so cross your fingers and toss salt all over; I figure by now CBSI is having to answer to CBS, thus I believe someone is actually working on it this weekend.

I might be wrong though.

(just rushed & slightly exasperated) Well, the issues we have complained about over last several months are in a state of augmentation, bookmark it, scrobble it later.

The problem was finally identified and a fix was deployed late last week.  We're going to continue to monitor performance, but we believe the issue is now resolved.
