Access to the Last.fm API is free, you only need to register to it in order to use it. If he needs help with the implementation of scrobbling for his hardware devices, he might use the API category of this forum.

It seems that Bluesound already uses Spotify on their devices, so Last.fm users can simply enable Spotify Beta Scrobbling on their Applications settings page, and it should scrobble.

The same is true for Deezer, by the way, because they connect their internal scrobbling with the user account, not the individual devices. So enabling scrobbling in the Deezer web player settings should also work on Bluesound devices when streaming with Deezer then. This might be even more interesting than Spotify, because Deezer offers lossless streaming which the high quality Bluesound gear can benefit from.

Last but not least this might also work with Tidal's internal scrobbling, see the related FAQ how to enable it in their web player, desktop app and mobile devices. I'm only guessing here, because I cannot test this.
