I'm enjoying the new features of the new site, but right now I'm missing the list of artists ordered by name. I'm talking about my artist collection. Are you going to include that feature again? Thanks!

Kicking this to the top again. We were told this was being worked on a year ago, and nothing. I miss this functionality more than anything else on the site.

Seriously, sorting by aphabet is the most basic library structure there is. How can this be more than a day's work to implement? Especially since there is an algorithm already in place sorting artists with similar play counts by alphabet.

It is incredible how they have implemented new stuff, that clearly need much more work, and they still haven't resolved this! They clearly don't give f*ck about the users preferences, working only on their agenda!

It would be really great if this could finally be (re?)introduced. I'd also like to be able to order my artists by discovered and last played dates. I'm sure there are other order parameters that would be useful too.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Library View.

are you guys planning to change the library view from that awful list to the easy and useful grid library view? it was so easy to navigate through all your artist with that view, now with the list, for us users who have +1000 artist it's almost imposible
i don't really mind if the list is still there, but at least we should have a choice to change the library view
i feel like i'm forgetting about tons of artists that i don't usually listen because of this library :(
this is the only change i've been waiting since the new last.fm was launched :(

i don't understand why did u merge my post since is not the same as this, i was asking about the library view, not the order in which artists are listed :/

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled "More artists" table libary.

Will you put back to an option that you had in the past to click on "more artists" in our artist views table with pictures of the main artist and 8 artists per page.It was much better the view and organization. It's a tip to improve!

Example:

Wow ... you honestly consider that old organization of your library is better than the current one ?
In what way, exactly ?

I wonder if you really used to navigate in last.fm in the past (I mean more than 5 minutes per day).

I remember in horror countless times when my experience with my library in that way of viewing was like this: I tried to visit page number X in my library and ... the page did not finish loading, either with artist's images not displayed at all, or just partially displayed, and the mouse cursor rotating as if the page was still loading (but did not, actually).
Refreshing or shift+refreshing the page wasn't helpful.
Mostly I had to go back to my page 1, and then trying to go to that page number X, and finally got it displayed -- but not always...
Yeah .. countless times this horror (I was actively participating in those games that certain groups have it: like name the best artist you find in my library page X, or the hottest image from that page etc.).

Meh... you want that horror back ?!?

Current style is so much better than that graphic style, that there's no possible competition between these 2.

P.S. The original poster's request is still much desired: it is much more helpful to have my library order alphabetically over-all, not just in the current way (only artists with the same amount of scrobbles are listed alphabetically). Please, make it a working task, not just an "Under consideration" idea !

There are tickets in our backlog to do this, but the work hasn't been prioritised by our product team yet.

Last.fm doesn't care about customers...
what they prioritise is making money, making money, making money, making money...disgusting what happended here and stuff never answered.
CUSTOMER SERVICE here simply doesn't exist anymore.
I hope there's coming the day a competitor wipes this so badly changed page away here.
I'll tell you thousands of users would move.

I'm sure you're in a difficult position, Jon, since you have to explain this stuff to us without being the person who makes the decisions.

I gotta say, though, that I'm utterly baffled about this. Letting the user reorder results out of a relational database is one of the easier coding tasks there is. How has this possibly taken two years?

totally agree on this. I don't know who is in charge of these decisions and who is sitting in the product team, but I rarely can understand these decisions.
The last couple of updates have been better than those before, but why the hell is there a focus on new stuff like last.week or similar things while the basic and trivial things are stuck in the backlog for almost two years?

Yes alphabetical list of artists together with a library view of artists and hopefully being able to show least played artists first should be a priority, not under consideration, last fm please have courtesy to respond.i have been waiting 10 months, your inefficiency is beyond belief, and not surprised lot of people have left Last fm.

Sooo... is this ever going to happen or the devs are still this (and I mean THIS) delusional after 2 years and don't know/don't care what the actual user wants?

Shameless bump #1. It's ridiculous not a single dev cares about this. What a shame. How is this even possible?

Not a single dev cares about this? It's marked "Under Consideration", though.

I think last.fm has a pretty small dev team right now, and have to prioritize certain other features before doing stuff like this.

P.S. I like your Vinesauce shirt. :)

Thanks. :) And yes, I think the devs doesn't care, I mean, it's "under construction" since 2015 august, we are almost in 2018 now. I have doubts something like that (which was perfectly fine in the old design, just keep that in mind) does take that long to code. We are literally asking this for years now, and it's not a luxury function, it was avaiable in the old design, we just want the old stuff back. The site hasn't changed since a year now. I guess they just want to kill it off and send it to the graveyard like MySpace.

Why isn't possible to put my library artists in alphabetical order? It would be easier to search.

I hope options to see library in alphabetical order will never come back. That was worst thing on last.fm. Maybe in whole internet. Good job last.fm, don't listen these few people. If you wan't that kind if thing, just do it on your own site.

I've never imagined that I'm going to say this in an unironic way and actually mean it, but these devs are literally useless garbage.
Under consideration since 2015 my ass. May I suggest a couple of friends of mine who can actually code? They will help you, maybe even for free. Or just hire someone who knows his/her job and knows how to build a site. That would be great, actually.

There are currently vacancies for a Software Engineer and a UI/UX Designer. Both roles are in London but you're welcome to suggest them to your friends. https://www.last.fm/about/jobs

I wonder if removal of alphabetical links may have been a business decision rather than a technical one.

Honestly I just don't care if it was a business or a technical decision, fact is that right now sorting libraries in alphabetical order is the main feature that needs to be implemented asap! Finally, I get used to the new Last.fm after the complete revolution that happened two and half years ago, but I really can't stand that it's not possible to sort libraries, because now libraries are completely useless! How am I supposed to search for an artist in a library if no sorting is possible at all?!?!?! I really wish that they'll fix it soon!

@KatyLB I will.
@NorseDave See, this is what I don't understand, and this is why it pisses me off so much I had to rage online, and I'm really not that kind of person, to talk like that, but for really, it makes mad that since 2015 they simply cannot add a simple sorting function, which was by the way worked just fine at the old site, and with this laziness or delusion or lack of understanding what a basic user wants they kinda defeat the purpose of this "new" Last.FM in the process.
- Hey, join us at Last.FM! We don't have forums and a community anymore, because we shift+deleted it in it's entirety but you can scrobble your songs, and you can make a nice library of artists!
- Yaaay, sounds cool and what can I do with my library?
- Ummm... I dunno... look at it... I guess?
Like, hello, what's the point of having an artist library if I can't do anything with it? I just can't comprehend this... It's so dumb, seriously.

>>>I wonder if removal of alphabetical links may have been a business decision rather than a technical one.

Not really.  It depended on the development team finishing the new scrobble database which powers the user library & charts.  The contractor who built the previous user library back in 2015 did it in a strange way that prevented us from doing sorting and caused other problems. So we basically had to spend the last year and half completely rebuilding it from scratch. Frustrating, but with this deployed now, product are pushing for A-Z sorting to get done later in the year (probably q3), so hopefully you won't have to wait much longer for this.  I agree that it's stupid that you can't do this already.

@guiguiae I'm not entirely sure what you mean? If an album or track in your library has the same playcount, they should be listed alphabetically (by artist name).   Either way, it probably won't be decided until the development team pick up the ticket and start analysing the work involved.

yeah, but it used to be listed alphabetically by song/album name, which looked way better and more organized for me. so no plans to bring it back right now? :/
