Bandcamp Scrobbles suddenly don't work

Trying to scrobble from bandcamp using an android device. All worked fine until yesterday. Now, none of the scrobblers even recognise that a song is playing. I have tried this with 3 apps now... official last.fm audioscrobbler, panoscrobbler and scroball...
Scrobbling from Spotify is working properly.
I have cleared cache from all apps (players and scrobblers) as well as uninstalling/reinstalling all relevant apps and restarting my device.
Not sure what else to try...

I have this problem also.

There has been an update to Panoscrobbler since you posted so I wonder whether this has fixed the problem for you? It has not for me - I have managed  to scrobble only a couple of releases and then scrobbling from the Bandcamp app ceases. Also, when scrobbles arrive, they give the record label as the artist  - I haven't seen this issue before. Scrobbling from other sources is unaffected.

I have been in correspondence with Panoscrobbler's developer and s/he  thought the issue might be that I have been using the app on a Huawei phone, so it would be useful to know whether your phone is a different make. I have loaded the bandcamp and panoscrobbler apps to an old LG phone and this doesn't scrobble either.

It might be worthwhile for anyone with this issue to send a bug report via the Panoscrobbler app to report the issue.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. Unfortunately still no resolution to the issue for me either.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S8 so at least we know the issue is not with a specific brand of device.
I was scrobbling from bandcamp for several months. Sometimes a play wouldn't get recorded but other than that it was fine. Now no scrobbling app even recognises that a song is playing.

I'll test this in a moment.  The official android app doesn't support Bandcamp (as far as I know), but it should work with either Scroball and Pano Scrobbler.

That being said, if you're using a Samsung Galaxy device, please check this note about the App optimisation / Power monitoring setting, which can definitely interfere with scrobbling (because it stops certain apps running in the background).  Also, do make sure notifications for Bandcamp are enabled, since that's how most apps get the artist name and track title.

Edit: It doesn't work for me either :(

As you can see below, it looks like the Bandcamp app's most recent update changes how it displays track info in the notification tray so that it shows the album name instead of the artist name.  That's probably why it's either not scrobbling, or scrobbling the album name as the artist.

Whereas you can see here that Spotify doesn't have this problem, because it shows the artist name (and album) in the notification tray.

As I understand it, these Scrobbling apps work by reading your notification tray, but they can only work with the data that's made available to them.  So the best thing you can do here is contact Bandcamp via twitter or the google play store, and ask them to add bring back the artist name on the notification tray.  Once that's done, the developers of Scroball and Pano Scrobbler should be able to update their apps to get it working again.

Jon,

Thank you for your explanation which I have forwarded on to Bandcamp as suggested and to Pano Scrobbler's developer.

I hope this will lead to resolution.

I have discovered an additional wrinkle to this issue.

I have found that I can search for and play new music via the Bandcamp application and it will scrobble correctly and without difficulty via Pano Scrobbler.

However, if I go to my collection and play recordings from there, then if I purchased the tracks prior to the last update of the Bandcamp app (version 2,1,18), they will either not register as playing on Pano Scrobbler, or they will scrobble with the record label as the artist. However, if I play tracks purchased after the app update, then they do now all scrobble. This is based on a small number of purchases, and in one case it still scrobbles with the label as artist - this despite the fact that it did scrobble correctly  before I bought it.

It would interesting to know whether others have the same experience.

Absolutely nothing works for me. I purchased a new album a few days ago and it doesn't scrobble at all. Sent a message to bandcamp but not had any reply.

Edit: just had a reply from bandcamp. They're looking into it.
