Hey, I really miss the "Blogs" form the old version. They were very useful to me and I would like to work with them in the future. Do they return?

The new site looks strange to me now, but with a little time I sure get used to it.
Keep up the good work! Thx.

Hi thanks for your question.

Yes, user journals are definitely coming back, but they haven't been built yet.  I'm not sure how long this will take, so please bear with us while we restore this feature for you.

In the meantime, you should still be able to view your original journals here:

http://last.fm/user/_/journal

Where /_/ replaces your username (or the username of the journal you want tor read): e.g. http://last.fm/user/maddieman/journal

Also, the team haven't touched journals in years, we'd be very interested to hear what kind of features and improvements you'd like to see made them.

I'm also getting a "bad gateway" error when I try to access my old journal using the method provided. You might want to make sure links actually, you know, work before handing them out to users like viable solutions.

When you say that journals will be back, does that include already existing journals or are they gone forever?
I had an extensive list of all the bands I've seen in there and since it's no longer possible to access my journals I'm a little worried.

Yeah, this is what lots of us are worried about :( I managed to save 100 or so entries the other day. Kicking myself that I didn't dot them all in one go

I asked the same question in this thread and moderator Hans-Jürgen said that our old journals have been saved and will be back:

"Yes, these things (old forums, groups, journals, About Me) had been archived already and are not lost, like all uploaded images etc. which will come back after everything has finally been synchronised."

I still can't load my journals - but as long as they're save somewhere on Last.fm's servers, I'm okay with it. Sort of. I'd prefer having a backup on my computer, though....

Edit: as of yesterday (20.8.) I can access my Journals just fine - I still hope it won't take too long until the new Journals-feature goes live... it worries me a bit that the team hasn't even started building it :-/ I will never understand why the "old" site has been turned off when the new site was still lacking soooooo many features.

With journals, it would be good to be able to save drafts as it was always easy to accidentally delete what you were doing. Also, searing by year as happens on most blogs would be good.

Also, will all our old journals be saved? I know I can see them now, but will they still be there when journals are put back onto the site?

Hi,

I wanted to make copy of my blog entries but link http://last.fm/user/_/journal   with my username doesn't work - Bad gateway.

I really hope that my journal entries will be saved.

Yup, bad gateway error. Has been like that for hours.

But since you asked what we'd like to see once journals come back, I might as well chime in:
I think it'd be great if the new journals would have an editor similar to Tumblr's. If you want people to actually use the feature, you have to make it really, really easy for them to add their content (text, images, gifs, links...), on-site stuff (artists, albums, events, groups, etc.) and embed YouTube videos or Spotify tracks.
Also: BBCode support. Seriously.

Since profiles on Last.fm are so bland and soulless now (*cough*), it's even more important that you guys nail the journals - folks need ways to express themselves and share who they are and what they like with the community.

Apparently, the old services are on a slow computer.

The thread below explains the fix for this:

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Another page for "about me" and journals?.

How about another page for the "about me" section? It could be combined with journals perhaps? A place to express yourself musically, artistically and have those statistics some of us enjoy putting together. It could sit alongside the other headers next to the "overview" and "library". Anyone wanting to express themselves in more than 200 characters using plain text could use this area for those musical statistics, pictures, maps etc. (although the maps are perhaps better on the overview page).
Obviously not everyone used the facility before or wrote journals, but the "about me" section is the one thing I'm seeing an awful lot of people talking about!

Are journals gone for good? I had an extensive listing of bands I've seen live that I'd like very much to get back, please.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Any chance to get all my blogs and profil-pics, texts, etc. pp. back or is all wh....

There were so many tools, texts and hard work many, many people invest for creating an individual profile with lots of informations, it'll be sad if this is all gone now...

Any chance to get this back? Is there a backup so that it'll be possible to safe data for themself? I mean there was history written on some perspective... =/

/PS: It sucks a little, that i can't write this comment with my last.fm log-in... why not?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Journals - Will old ones be saved?.

I have well over 200 gig reviews/setlists saved on last.fm that I have written over the years. I know that you can still currently access them, as I have read on here, but it is unclear whether these journals will still be there when the new journal thing is built?

I want to know if I need to copy and paste each one as a back-up or not as I really do not want to loose these reviews..

Also, I would just like to add my voice to the many here who are unhappy with the new last.fm. New looks I can handle, but releasing a website that barely works and is missing most of it's key features is poor, and the brand's reputation will suffer greatly as a result.

"Also, the team haven't touched journals in years, we'd be very interested to hear what kind of features and improvements you'd like to see made them."

They should be more visible on artist's page. They weren't in the latest version before the beta, but they were once, at least the three newest. Being directly visible on the artist's page makes it easier for journal authors to be seen.
Another idea I have in mind is a tag system for journal entries and an option for searching particular journal tags.

@Paul Celan, I really like the idea of a tagging system for journals! On the old site I always just stumbled upon journals by accident... being able to search for journals with keywords would be great.
Also, I agree that journal entries should be placed more prominently on the site in general - I'm sure there are tons and tons of interesting journals I've missed over the years. User created content should be promoted, not buried.

Almost every post I read says the same thing (and I've had it happen to me too - I put in the link, correct the username) and ... 404 Page Not Found error.

Please tell me you haven't just dropped all those journals? OK, I haven't been here for a while and I'm hoping the site has been improved but this isn't boosting my confidence.

I can't understand why you at last fm published a new site wich isn't ready! What is this good for? For myself I can say, I would never sell a bread which isn't baked.

Now the members find themself back in a role of little children which asked: "Can I get back my toys daddy? Please, please, please!" - Undignified!
