Hello!

The default image of the artist Errorsmith does not disappear although it has many downvotes. Can you fix that?

Images don't disappear because they are downvoted. Voting only changes their order.

I know, that's what I meant.

On the same subject, how does the algorithm work for deciding what the top image is? I'm just curious (and a little confused!).

For example, a photo with 186 likes and 65 dislikes is displayed 'higher' than one with 59 likes and 18 dislikes. The ratio/percentage between the likes and dislikes implies the latter should appear higher but that doesn't often happen? So does it take into account the total amount of votes too?

Date uploaded probably plays a factor. Is the one with 186likes/65dilsikes much older than the other one?

Yeah it is. I was wondering if it takes into account the total number of votes as well. It's all a bit confusing, haha!

I think it also takes into account how recent the vote is (or the old did I think).
In any case it's not a trivial algorithm and it would take some effort to reverse engineer it.

But why is it complicated? If you're correct in saying this, Jim, I don't understand why the Last FM team would weight anything beyond vote ratio.

The only logical extra weighting would be in favour of recent upload and/or votes, which it clearly isn't. As such, regardless of if it would take some effort to reverse engineer it, it needs fixing - not changing, fixing - because the way votes work at the moment is frustrating, if I'm being polite.

I feel like a broken record at the moment, constantly harping on about how the votes (don't) work, lol

Hi Jon, since you're here, could you possibly shine a light on how the image votes are weighted please?
