Deleting duplicates

It's great that it's now possible to delete scrobbles again, thanks. I went through recent duplicates, attempting to only leave a single scrobble in each case - but deleting the duplicate appears to delete all instances, not just the duplicate one.

Although I don't have a definitive answer, I know on one of the past builds of the old sites there was a bug that would dupe scrobbles and when I deleted one dupe it deleted all of the dupes and the original scrobble. When they patched it I believe the dupes got removed with the original intact so I'd leave it be for now until the delete function is fleshed out. Annoying I know but it sounds like they reintroduced the old bug with whatever implementation they are using for deleting right now.

yeh I remember this happening before but then it somehow stopped happening. Even when it did happen before it wouldn't always happen, it depended on whether I deleted the first or second instance of a song for some reason. Sad to see this old bug bag :/

Hi there,

The new system does not actually support storing duplicates, although old duplicates were imported with a one-second time difference between each entry. This technically means they're not duplicates, so deleting one of these would not have deleted any of the others.

This makes me wonder what you actually saw and clicked delete from. If you see these again, can you take a screen shot?

Thanks for your reply. I missed a few, and realised the problem before I made things worse. It was specifically the duplicate scrobbles of the Goldberg Variations I was trying to tidy up, you'll see the three I missed still have duplicates. I was simply pressing the x to delete.

I was playing using iTunes, using the official iTunes plugin for the last.fm scrobbler. It's possible I also had Spotify running (but not playing anything).

Did you install other iTunes plugins back when the trouble started with 32/64bit versions of iTunes some months ago, and is one of those still installed maybe? The problem is that your duplicate scrobbles seem to come from two different clients.

No it's been quite a while since I last updated. My iTunes plugin, itw_scrobbler.dll, has a modify date of 14/2/2013, and version 6.0.5.4. I'm running 32-bit Vista (SP2) so would not be affected by 64-bit issues.

Is there any way to determine what the two different clients might be? I'm not getting duplicates with more recent scrobbles, and I haven't removed anything since the problem occurred.

I also have FoxyScrobbler installed in Fiirefox, but that's only supposed to affect web scrobbling.

Hi there,

We looked at the logs: from each pair, one is coming from the Last.fm Desktop Scrobbler, and the other from Libre.fm ;)

Oops, mea culpa. I only signed up to that and imported scrobbles a few days ago (as a precaution, because of current problems), it seems to have duplicated a few recent scrobbles (but my total count looks about the same so it must only be a few). But as duplicates are no longer allowed, do you know why deleting is working the way it is?

Which scrobbler do you use, the official one from Last.fm and if yes, which version?

The official one, 2.1.37 (the 'Check for Updates' option says it's the latest).

Same problem here. Since tonight EVERY scrobble done by the last.fm-Client since the switch (17th August) has been duplicated, as is displayed on the screenshot (username: betadron). This goes on for pages. Deleting the duplicate deletes the whole instance, so apparently the duplicates aren't "real", but still affect the overall scrobble count and statistics on the website.

The last.fm-Client although doesn't display the duplicates (2nd screenshot).

Did you also export your Last.fm library to Libre.fm, so these pairs of duplicates could be caused by this as well?

No, didn't connect last.fm and libre.fm. And this would certainly have affected all scrobbles within a 2 week timeframe, not just the ones I scrobbled with the last.fm-client.

the bug where users had "duplicate" not-duplicate scrobbles (where one had an album artist and one did not) has been fixed. Those users do not have those "dupes" any more.
So you might check again if this also fixed your duplicates, although that description rather fits the ones for Rupert Welch where copying the scrobbles from Libre.fm seems to have deleted the album artist field in a scrobble which made them differ from each other. So if those duplicate pairs are still present in your library, you should be able to delete only one scrobble now. Please test this with only a few duplicates and report back, so this problem can be considered "solved".

In my last 5,000 scrobbles, I have 1,933 duplicates. How am I to remove them?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled 5 months later and we still have duplicates.

https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/deleting-duplicates

Staff, some update on this would be appreciated. I have over 300 duplicates mostly from last year, but there are others with thousands of them. It's getting a "bit" frustrating.

In the meantime you can check the number of your duplicates using the following tool: http://meaw.kagechiyo.net/web/RemoveDuplicatedTrack.eng.html

Post your numbers below.

I have over 4000 scrobbles of Clutch's Child Of The City, due to a fault in the Poweramp (for Android) app that falsely reported listening to the song. Is there any hope of deleting all of these but one listen? It's messing up my profile.

Recently another user mentioned using an auto-clicker app, but not its name. If you google the term, there are several different apps. Maybe this is a good workaround for you, too.
