I use iTunes on my Mac and the Last.fm scrobbler. What is very annoying: A while ago the following problem started, no idea why: My tracks are all scrobbled twice. HELP me, please!

iTunes 12.6.2.20
MacOS Sierra 10.12.16
Last FM 2.1.37

Another weird thing that started at the same time:

Previously when I opened iTunes, the Last FM app would automatically launch...it does not do so anymore. I have to launch it manually.

Thanks for looking into it.

As Stephen noted above, this appears to happen when both 'Enable scrobbling' and 'Enable Device Scrobbling' happen. My workaround is to disable the former, and so limit the scrbbles to come from the 'device'. I'm glad to see the official response looking into it - I'd just point out to make sure both options are checked when trying to reproduce.
Of course, having both is nice, the first lets you live-scrobble, and the second catches up with your phone scrobbles when syncing later.

Thanks for your reports, we've now managed to reproduce this in the office.  Since update 12.6.2.20, it looks like Apple have changed something in the way they update playcounts in iTunes which is causing the scrobbler to pick them up a second time as device scrobbles. :/

Our developers are looking into this, but as others have mentioned the best workaround for the time being is to either Disable device scrobbling entirely, or to ensure that Confirm Device Scrobbles is checked -- unfortunately doing so means you have to periodically dismiss the unwanted device scrobbles.

You can adjust this setting in Preferences -> Devices.

I'm also having the same problem on my Mac straight after I updated to iTunes 12.6.2. I don't seem to see it mentioned above, but another issue I noticed straight after upgrading is that the scrobbler doesn't launch automatically when I open iTunes.

Yeah I mentioned that in here somewhere. I'm having the same issue re: launching.

Any updates on this or at least a possible timetable for a fix?

Re-bumping to the top...this is starting to feel exactly like when the new site display was rolled out: something critical is broken and it gets a response of "wok e're on it" yet nobody with any authority has responded with any sort of update or apology. What could be so important this time that it's being held up???

Another month has passed and still not a peep from anyone. We all see the post regarding the new Windows scrobbler for iTunes, but that doesn't exactly help those of us with Macs now does it?????

4 months since the problem's been acknowledged. This bug induces significant daily hassle to scrobble the right tracks (checking which have been scrobbled or not, unchecking those that have, etc). Pretty painful! I really hope last.fm fixes it soon.

Any update on this... 7 months now since it was reproduced in your office. If it's a thorny problem, fine, but an update of some sort as to where things are at and when/if we might expect a fix would be great.
