Chart inconsistencies showing up on profile.

Hi guys! I seem to be having an issue where some tracks scrobble normally but then register as multiple scrobbles within the website interface causing inaccuracies with Top Artists/Albums/Tracks. Library entries for the tracks themselves seem to be accurate so I presume this is just a glitch in need of correction. None of the tracks shown were played more than once in the past week. Username is tombells86:

.

Kind Regards, -- Tom.

[Updating the title for clarity, as this appears to be a problem with charts showing the wrong values, not duplicate scrobbles per-se. - Jon]

I would like to request the script to be run on mine again. I deleted my scrobbles for the new year and it still shows that I have artists when I don't.

User name is Snakestone91 and I'm having an issue with artists scrobbled. My profile says I scrobbled 1,274 artists, but when you click on that it will say I scrobbled 1,362. 1,362 is thew correct number, not 1,274. Can you guys fix this?

>>>Seriously guys.  What's up?  My library still hasn't gotten the script run against it.

I posted an update a few weeks ago, but it looks like my post got buried.  We are no longer running the chart fixup script on individual accounts because it takes 15-45 minutes per user, fails if they're currently scrobbling (or start scrobbling while it's running), and many reports indicate that charts are falling out of sync again almost immediately.

Instead we're working on a permanent fix for this problem, but this will take longer to complete because we have to re-do how we display charts on the site.  We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

For more details, here's my post from a few weeks ago:

A permanent fix is being worked on, but it looks like it's going to be more involved than I'd hoped -- seems like it's not just a case of finding a bug in the code and fixing it, so much as rebuilding how we do charts to eliminate this problem from happening.  Right now charts are updated separately from scrobbles, and as I understand it, there are situations where those updates can fall out of sync (i.e. be sent twice or more) with your actual scrobble count, particularly for users who scrobble a lot during peak traffic; when there's an outage; or possibly with certain scrobble clients -- there are different ways it can happen, which is why it's happening for some people and not others.  The team are now trying to determine what the most effective solution is -- for instance, an obvious fix would be to build your chart from your actual scrobbles, instead of maintaining charts as a separate database, but then it becomes an issue of performance -- that's why they're trying to figure out at the moment.

Once again, we'd like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this issue -- it shouldn't be happening, and I expect it to be fixed as a priority.

Having the same issue. Username: vespertinedance. For example, it says I have one play for the album "Sky Full of Song," but nothing shows up when I click on it.

I can provide a couple of examples of this problem too. Looking forward to the fix. :)

I've listened to the debut Ripship single 26 times, but it also shows a count of 28 here:
https://www.last.fm/user/Bloopy/library/music/Ripship
If I click "go to artist page", that page claims I have 33 scrobbles of the band, while the track page claims I have 28.

32 scrobbles of Kay Thompson, but it also shows a count of 33 here (I tried to delete the one that duplicated, but it didn't help):
https://www.last.fm/user/Bloopy/library/music/Kay+Thompson
If I click "go to artist page", it gives a count of 35 scrobbles.

What's the status on this problem, when is it going to be solved? It has been going on for so long now. The purpose of scrobbling is lost when you know the numbers are wrong. It happends so frequently now.

I just also noticed that I played a whole discography of an artist which is 80 songs and now it's telling me I only played them 79 times?

The problem with the charts continues to accumulate, more and more performers are infected with the "extra scrobble" corona-virus, and correctional work has not yet been seen.

It only affects user-libraries, not artist charts.  As soon as we fix this, it'll be fixed immediately for everyone.

From what I know it's still being worked on; there's an issue with the database management system (which handles the data between many servers). Developers are trying to pinpoint the issue and rectify it. What Jon still stands though: Having to re-do how charts are displayed on millions of users profiles is pretty indepth and can take a good while. If there's an ETA or the problem has been fixed completely, Last.FM will provide an update. :)

Do they have any idea what might have caused it to randomly start happening last year?

Yes.  It's conceptual flaw in the way user charts were designed when we re-did the new scrobble database the year before last.  User charts is the data service that powers what you see in your library (top artists, top tracks, etc), it's separate from your actual scrobbling data (which is fine, and not affected by this).

User charts are counted separately from your scrobbles for performance reasons, and shouldn't fall out of sync with your scrobbles under normal circumstances, but conceptually they could, and somehow they are.  The exact scenarios where it can happen are numerous and difficult to pin down (slightly different timings in hardware, during peak traffic, for users with a certain number of scrobbles, on certain partitions, ... etc) -- the team thought they'd accounted for most of them, but clearly not.

So to cut a long story short, rather than spend more time trying to root out possible situations where this can still happen (which is time consuming, and might not yield any results), the team have opted to eliminate it entirely by redesigning the user-charts service so that it conceptually can't happen (by looking up scrobbles directly, rather than maintaining a separate charts database).  The downside is that replacing an existing service is not trivial work, so while there's not ETA yet, I expect it to take several months at least.  I wish there was a quicker way, but on the plus side, once deployed, this problem will just go away overnight.

Sorry for (maybe stupid) question, but, will these "ghost" scrobbles disappear from libraries after update, or still remains?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Invisible scrobbles won't disappear.

On my Chelsea Cutler artist page, it displays me as having 14 scrobbles for the album "How to be Human", however I edited these to "How to be Human (Bonus Track Version)" a while ago to fit with Apple Music as the album name was changed there. However, the "14" scrobbles are still listed under the album, and when I try to delete album from library, these scrobbles are still there. When I go into the album it claims I only have 8 scrobbles of 8 different tracks, all of which are only showing scrobbles with the new album name when I go into the specific tracks. Also, when filtering by *ANY* time frame, the "14" scrobbles with the old album name disappear. How do I get them to disappear for good?

Hello! I had this problem in November and managed to get it solved, but it's popped up again and it's really annoying me! It's happening in particular to my BTS scrobbles, where there's a discrepancy between the number of scrobbles recorded in the last 365 days (1906), and the number of scrobbles recorded for all time (1954). Considering that I only started listening to them in May, this is pretty weird. My username is hectorella44, thanks in advance for your help!

I'm also having problems with ghost scrobbles. The problem is more visible when I choose the "All Time" option of scrobbles, when I choose a date similar to the amount of time that I use last.fm it shows the right amount of scrobbles. It's so annoying. User: fvnetu

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Double counted scrobbles.

I use two apps to scrobble music, lastfm and pano, and I get double scrobbles for each track I play almost every time.
This is not a problem cuz I then delete manually each duplicate. However, even if I delete double scrobbles, when I access the page of an artist I have scrobbled I get incorrect numbers for albums/songs.
For example, on my most played artists list Rihanna appears to have 1,459 scrobbles > when I open Rihanna's page the number changes and goes to 1,430 (just an example). On her page it says I've scrobbled Anti 351 times > when I open Anti's page it says 349. When I'm on Anti's page it says I've scrobbled Work 73 times > when I click on Work it says 69.
This is so confusing and frustrating, I wish that when I delete a scrobble it's deleted for once and for all, but instead they remain on an artist's/album's page and it alters the numbers of actual scrobbles. Is there a solution to this?

Hi,

I remember having this problem like 1 or 2 years ago, I got it fixed by posting my username. I'm also having this problem again, it happens that I have to check track by track the correct number of scrobbles. For example, in the artist main page (where all the albums/tracks scrobbled show) I see an incorrect number of scrobbles, I have to go to the album page to have the correct number but it also happen with tracks on the album, in the list the site show the wrong number and I have to open every single track page to have the real one. This happens to me with Ariana Grande Thank u next album for example.

I read that they are working for a  permanent fix, and I'm glad of that. I'm leaving my username in here just in case: monky_2405. I also leave my boyfriend's one: MrMagic82.
Hoping my explanation is clear enough
