Edit tools for some users!!

Hey there! I was thinking about why last.fm users can't edit the songs, albuns and artist pages. Of course not all users, only who want to help the last.fm get better. There some musics with the wrong name and covers and the last.fm team is little slowly to fix. I could help if the site had edit tools.

I'm with you on this. I would love if such correction tools were placed at the disposal of a select group of trustworthy users. It would greatly help keep the site in an orderly state at a more efficient rate.

But if you look at it from LFM staff perspective; how are they going to determine which users are eligible for such authority? What guarantees that this person they've chosen won't go nuts and mess up the site on a whim one day?

Unless...those users were forced to undertake an oath or something :D

I'm guessing here that you don't quit understand how thinks work about song title that appear on last.fm !

Let me give you an example:
let's say I manipulate tags at one of my songs to be like this:
Pink Floyd -- Bla bla bla 7
And I play and scrobble this song.
When this gets scrobbled, it will be there, on Pink Floyd's tracks list, despite this is not a real song.
And you can't do anything about editing it's title, on the site !
It doesn't matter if you are willing to edit it, or if you are a subscriber or not, or even if you are a moderator or other degree of staff member !

The only way this song will disappear from the site is if I go back to my library and remove this scrobble ! Presumably nobody else scrobbled it also with the same dumb title ... which will mean they also have to do the same thing (removing this "song" from their libraries).

So... you really don't have anything to do about this.

Btw ... let's say there WOULD be available a mechanism thorough which you will be able to correct that song title that I've scrobbled from Pink Floyd.
You do realise that if I will play and scrobble it again, it will be back on the site, don't you ? And thus your work of editing the bad title would be futile (not to mention that in this example of mine, you don't have any means to guess what was the real song that I've listened to and scrobbled).

The ONLY means of having correct titles for songs on last.fm (and also artist names, album names etc.) is that users themselves are eager enough to scrobble those songs with the correct tags; along with the old option of auto-correct that already exist since ages (and gives a lot of headache for a good deal of people by wrong auto-correcting... :-) )

It will not appear in track listings or create new albums.
And there already is a tool to fix incorrect tracks, the autocorrect.

Well, maybe works this way: The registered users to help fix bugs send corrections and the Last.fm team would check that if is correct and authorize the update. Not all simple, but they can work on it to keep the site better.

Any user can upload new cover images.
As for the track listings and album names they come from the importer. Earlier they were from MusicBrainz (you can sign up there if you want), but the new one looks like it will come from multiple sources.
