How is the picture in the header determined?

Apparently the header on top of everyone's user page is determined by the "leading" artist in one's top track section, depending on which time period is selected as default. Which is a bummer because I'd be more happy with a custom selection.

I decided for displaying the all time top tracks, lead by artist X. There are several images for artist X, yet there is one picture which is constantly shown for this artist and it is not the current artist page picture. Can I influence this?

Customing this header (not only with artist, but in "backgrounds images" from our computers - my dream) can be awesome with repaired "about me" function.

I'm fairly sure the header photo is the photo currently in second place for the artist, rather than the main. A bit of a weird choice...

I can deconfirm this; the artist leading my current top tracks for the last 7 days brings in a rather distinct picture which is not even in the top ten of artist images.

I wondered about it, too. My current header shows the second place picture and as it does for a lot of artist pages.

It also weirds me out that I've seen some pictures change even though we can't vote for the top image yet (for example Wolf Alice: pic#3 jumped to #1, the header image stayed in place).

My header image, of a band of 5 members, show 4 chests and half of 1 face.

As someone mentioned above, I would also love (if the header really is here to stay) to be able to choose a picture for the header myself.

headers currently are also using images that are often not appropriate dimensions or quality. so it just makes a mess.
