On my artist page there's a default background image. How can I change it? In Music Manager? I cannot even find that anymore.

Hi,

The artist page header is taken from the artist images. Uploading some artist images will solve your issue.

There is more information about last.fm artist pages at https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/artists-and-labels-how-to-make-the-most-of-last-fm

not true. the background image on my artist page is NOT from my artist/profile images. the page is using the last.fm default background image, even there's 7 photos total on my artist page.

Actually IT IS true ! :-)
Or, at least, for every artist I checked so far, that background image IS among the images in the "Photos" page of that artist. And I did checked so far for 20 random artists from my library (number 1, as well as more obscure artists, with only 3 scrobbles...) , hoping I'll find one for which this rule is not enforced -- it IS enforced all right.
May you give more details with your artist name, in order to let us investigate further ?

What I don't understand is the algorithm used for showing that image as background.
Until now I was certain it is the cover image of the album from which my number 1 song of that artist is.
I just observed it is not so...

P.S. Here's a tip how you can identify the picture that's used as background image for an artist, if you can't visually spot it:
right-click on the artist's home page; chose option "View source page" .
You'll get a new window where you'll have to search for this text: "style=" -- there you'll have the internal ID for the image used for background (similar to this:background-image: url(http://img2-ak.lst.fm/i/u/ar0/26cae60617a4473a8e5aca112ea9faf2.jpg). Copy the part before .jpg and ... copy that over the URL of any photo from that artist, replacing the existing ID with the open copied earlier.... you'll see that the picture is there all right, among the rest of the pictures.

The first image in landscape format will be chosen from the uploaded artist pictures. As many artist pictures have the portrait or square format, it may happen that no landscape format is available, then it probably chooses the default generic background to avoid the known "forehead" problem.

hello. the background image I have is from some gig, the hands of audience, and stage on back. cannot find from the source code... too much text, getting messy in my eyes... you could tell me please on which line approximately I could see that "style" ???

my artist profile is not xaxa - but I want to keep my forum self separated from my profile, so I don't want to share the exact page.

if the automatic system takes the background photo from the first track (most played), then it should be that album sleeve image, which actually exists in last.fm already. So I really don't get it, why my artist background image that what it is - as it seems for everybody else it's not :/

Because there are only two square and one portrait images, no landscape format which would be chosen for background then.

Square images work. I'm assuming they might have to be a certain resolution to be chosen for the header?

For example on one of the artist pages I've been slowly building, Centaurus B. I recently uploaded about 22 album covers, but couldn't find a suitable image of the actual artist. So as a temporary placeholder I edited some album artwork and used that. The image is 700x700 and currently being used for the background header.

thanks! I uploaded a new big image, and that's the new background image!!! it's a BIIIIT ZOOMED IN, so better to maybe upload another landscape-a-like image. But then, cannot be sure if last.fm will use that image automatically on background. Will see...

You can always delete the pictures that you have uploaded yourself and/or upvote the one you want and downvote the one you don't want. To use it as a background, it makes sense to upload a banner format like 800x300p.
