I am a new user and have unable to scrobble albums. Even if I do select an album to listen to all it does is only scrobble the track but not the album itself. I suppose there is some other way to scrobble albums?

How are you listening to music? If you're listening to your own physical/digital collection, make sure your ID3 tags are properly filled out. If you are streaming through Last.fm, and have Youtube selected as the source (Spotify is another option), album identification will not be scrobbled because album information is still not available on Youtube and nothing can be done about it (yet).

I see so that's why my albums were not being scrobbled. I have been streaming through last.fm and youtube as the selected source. Thank you for the answer!

is it so difficult for last.fm to add album information when "streaming through last.fm and youtube as the selected source."?

Yes, it's difficult to determine which album a song belongs to.
It's a one-to-many relationship:
A track can be on multiple releases by the same artist (albums, singles and EPs are treated the same), so even with different versions of a release, it's rather simple to list the tracks that are present on a release, but it's hard to pinpoint which release should be associated with a track if you only get the track title and artist name.

well I do no think it is so difficult to to determine which album a song belongs to. In many cases it is just an 1-1 relationship, so nothing more straightforward than this.

For one-to-many relationship, Last.fm has already the solution available.
See this track for example:

https://www.last.fm/music/Kreator/_/Leave+This+World+Behind

it is also included in 6+ other releases too, but only one is shown in the "FROM THE ALBUM"  section. So,an option would be to select the album that last.fm has decided(with any logic) to display in this section. Chrome extensions for youtube for example can do this, and last fm itself is not able to do this.

At any case, you can later manually edit the scrobble and provide the most accurate album information.

Another idea....when the relationship is 1-1, then scrobble the album information. If it is an 1-n relationship, then do not scrobble
