Incorrect album attributed to tracks and wrong or low res album arts

Just a few nitpicks, but several albums have very poor quality, wrong, or no album art.

Any way to submit a correct, high res art and have that be the sole art for the album? (mostly for when making collages, as low-res arts look atrocious) [Paradise Theater by Styx is a huge culprit of this]

Also, some tracks are labeled under the wrong album on Lastfm itself, mainly songs that are also on Greatest Hits records. Any way of making their primary album their original studio albums?

The album artwork upload facility is meant to be coming back, I believe.

I +1 your request about assigning songs to their original studio albums as their primary location; I've seen numerous songs attributed to some random compilation album as their primary source, or even worse an incorrectly labelled album that has (rather worryingly) been created by a label.

I too +1 this entire issue. It's a sorry mess, especially when I'm scrobbling with album information for each track for certain.

Second problem should be fixed as soon as possible. For now, album information in our tags is "ignored" when it comes to album arts that appear right next to the song. They brought back recent tracks album arts, but the thing is that most of them are incorrect. Instead of album art from the album I tagged, I have cover of some album that last.fm thinks the song is from (most of the time red last.fm "wrong tagging" picture).

Kinda OT, but we need library to get fixed (not only format thing) - clicking on artist's name should redirect us to artist page on last.fm, and clicking on number of plays to stats in our library. For now both redirect to stats, so we need to click "Go to artist page" when trying to get to the artist page from our library.

I created account here just to agree on the cover art problem. This is ANNOYING, because before this whole beta thing, whichever album I tagged, I got its art in the recent tracks and library. Now even in library when looking at the list of tracks by some band, I see wrong covers, just because they use last.fm info instead my tag (and to be honest, most of the people that use this site have better knowledge about correct tags than last.fm algorithms).

Please, we need answer about the album tags for each song.

As noted below, album art should be drawn from the individual user's scrobble metadata (not whatever algorithm Last.fm is using to determine the "most likely" appropriate album art).

This would also be great for the user library: for track-level album art, use the album that the user has scrobbled most often for that track.

The problem is that it shows the album work of the song instead of the album

Really great! I hope 2 weeks that you mentioned will be 2 WEEKS and not 2 months because now everything looks not too good. Tracks at the picture below all from one compilation album and it looks like a total mess.

are you having the website take the artwork from the album like the scrobbler because right now it screws everything up. It should be the right not the left

I noticed the same thing about tracks. I was listening to a live album and the tracks were assigned to the original album, instead.
Kinda annoying.

Album artwork displayed next to individual tracks is all over the place - please sort it out.

Example 1: Artist "The Police" Album "Zenyatta Mondatta"
Most of the album art images next to the tracks I've played are from "Message In Box" and the rest from "The Very Best of Sting and The Police"  I do not own either of these albums.

Example 2: Artist "ZZ Top" Album "Eliminator"
About a third of the tracks have "Greatest Hits" cover art displayed not the "Eliminator" album art.
Again, I do not own, nor have I played the "Greatest Hits" album.

Please don't let the images displayed next to tracks played default to the "Greatest Hits" album artwork if that's not the album being scrobbled.

And, even when I do play a "Greatest Hits" type album, I get varied and seemingly random artwork.
Example 3: Artist "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" Album "Messages: Greatest Hits"
For this one album I get four different album covers displayed next to the tracks I've played and NONE of them show the correct artwork!

These are all significant artists and pretty major releases but all consistently show the WRONG album artwork next to the tracks... And... there are too many more to list that do exactly the same.

Please sort this out

Please fix this problem. If you are listening to Joy Division, every song gets randomly scrobbled as a "Heart and Soul" or "Greatest Hits" album scrobble, the first being a collection album, the second speaking for itself. Even though my metadata shows the correct albums. This is indeed very annoying, would love to hear an update about how fixing this is going.

Ok, again...

In your recent tracks the album artwork is taken from the album name as you scrobbled it. Go to you Last.fm profile and click on "Top albums" and check for missing covers there.

In the library it shows the most popular album that track is on. Click on the track name and check under "From the album". If it don't have a cover image that is the problem. If it's not an any album that's the problem (check your tags or wait for the importer to import it).

Uploading album artwork twice (once for the recent tracks and once again for our libraries) is not a solution. The main reason the artwork is missing in our libraries is because there isn't an album associated with the track on the track page - therefore we physically can't upload it. This is a very simple problem, with an equally simple fix.

The system relies on the correct artwork having already been uploaded (either by the Artist, the Label or a last.fm admin/user).

In the case of Metacomplex above there is artwork for the album tagged as "Abandoned Reality" but there's an alternative version of the album being scrobbled, tagged as "Abandoned Reality (Extended/Remastered)". This currently has no artwork. The system sees these two versions as unique releases and therefore requires someone to upload the artwork that matches  "Abandoned Reality (Extended/Remastered)".

If someone has the correct artwork they can upload it by going to the Metacomplex page, clicking on Albums and selecting  "Abandoned Reality (Extended/Remastered)". On that albums page click Artwork at the top of the page, you can upload the album art.

Ultimately each uniquely tagged "Album" needs someone to upload the artwork. This usually happens pretty quickly for standard releases but where you have lots of versions of a release e.g. [Deluxe Edition], [Remastered], [Expanded], [Anniversary Edition] etc. it can be a while before artwork is uploaded but if you really hate the grey boxes it is possible to upload the artwork yourself.  (Just follow the guidelines on the upload page).

This whole bag of bullshit about the artwork would be sorted if our scrobbling information was the sole source for the information displayed on our profiles. The problem is generally being caused by the new music database forcing our track pages to default to the artwork for the most popular release.

I imagine everyone contributing to these forums is a fairly enthusiastic music listener and likely has very accurate tags on their files within their iTunes library (or similar), so this incorrect information that is plastered all over our pages is very frustrating.

This track is missing artwork. There is no album linked to this track on the track page. The album I Scrobbled it from does have artwork in my library and on the album page. So, how do I fix the missing artwork for this track?

Don't know the answer to that I'm afraid. The grey music note seems to indicate a disconnection to an "album". I see it in my library too, even though I know my tags are correct and that when I scrobbled the track it did have the "album" tag. I'm guessing that as Elliot said above, it's because of a data conflict with the last.fm database. No idea how/if that can be fixed. Sorry.

Looking at http://www.last.fm/music/Neon+Jungle/Welcome+to+the+Jungle+(Deluxe) you can see it has no track listing. The problem appears to be that on http://www.last.fm/music/Neon+Jungle/Welcome+to+the+Jungle Last fm imported the track listing from the single instead of the album. It's on MuiscBrainz and iTunes. It's a known bug in the importer.

Good, you found it! This shows the point I was trying to make. The system has failed here. The catalogue hasn't taken the information from Musicbrainz correctly and instead of using the perfectly good artwork we get nothing.

The same can be said for this song and countless others. In this example the track is part of the "Falling EP". But as far as I can tell, it's not on Musicbrainz and therefore this album page doesn't have a track list. No tracklist = no artwork, even though the album page does have artwork already uploaded.

This poses as quite the problem if you listen to a lot of music that isn't highly popular - especially if it was also recently released. Also, why use two separate methods for recent tracks and the library?

Uploading artwork twice and checking musicbrainz constantly to see if any of the ~500 artists I Scrobble weekly are missing tracklists? That's silly. The library should follow the same method as the recent tracks and use the artwork for the album we Scrobble - not the most popular one.

How to add/update an album cover (an illustrated guide).

In this guide we start with a track in your library. Click on the track name and you get something like

Click to go to the track page.

Here you see what albums track track is on (if any). Tracks that not are on any album can obviously not have album covers.

In your library and on top of artist pages the album cover from the most popular album (the one on the left) is used. Click that one.

To upload a new artwork (album cover) click that tab.

Upload a new artwork by clicking the button for that (on the right).

Choose a file and upload it.

The file you choose should be an image file (preferably a JPEG). It should not be too large (in file size) and be the actual cover of the album. It also helps if it's square.

Wow, this is getting out of hand. OK, here's the artwork problem I have:

I know how to upload artwork. I've uploaded artwork for every release I've listened to since May this year. I've listened to 9,550 releases since May this year. That's a lot of releases, and easily around 2,500 covers.

The problem is that many of these covers aren't getting used for the tracks in my library. The albums have artwork, the tracks don't. This is because the website can't find these tracks under the albums tab on the artist page. If it can't find the tracks, it can't link them with the album artwork. And that is because a release hasn't been officially imported from MusicBrainz and other sources. However, there is a perfectly good album page with artwork that myself and other users have created by Scrobbling. This page does have have artwork.

The recent tracks section on our profiles uses artwork directly from the releases we Scrobble. The Library doesn't. Why? The library should reflect our listening.

Have the library use artwork from the releases we Scrobble. Not the 'most popular' one. Done. No more artwork issues.
