Hi all, thanks for your feedback.
We made the decision to switch the order to "track - artist" on the new site to prevent long track titles from getting cut off in certain places e.g. the Top Tracks chart on your profile page. It is often more useful to be able to read the full track title and only part of the artist name when track titles are long, rather than the full artist name and only part of the track title when artist names are long.
However, we are listening to your feedback and have heard a lot of users saying they don't like this change. As a result, we are considering different solutions that would allow us to switch back to the "artist - track" style.

This is hardly the Great Wall of China, Paul. It's more like the brick wall behind my local Greggs.

Why do you make that comparison? Last.fm at least isn't owned by depraved dictators that decided to make slave out of nearly every citizen they have back in the days to put up a massive blocks of wall that served as their graveyard. It really baffled me that people still walked on that path and considered it as a magnificent structure.

LOL. Then the artist names would be cut in that situation... And the artist is more important than the song. Like you can't make the font smaller or use a more condensed font. The stats look terrible especially for those that listen to albums.

Just admit that you started using the the idiotic title - artist format because of Spotify.

I see an opportunity here: make it a personal preference thing.

Yeah, we're all used to the old "artist-title" order but I've found some use for the other one since then (when I listen to a long list of covers of the same song, for example, I like to see them line up). And I would like to be able to switch it from time to time.

If they wanted to they could probably change this in a second, but it's not gonna happen.

Yes, it's a very simple thing. Basically just invert artist and title in the code. There's even a script that do exactly that: https://gist.github.com/Ben-Wormald/0dc2b7cfc582fca844d1

However, because the script is loaded after the site's page is loaded, the changes aren't really fast.

True. But this was still yet another useless change. 9 times out of 10 it's really annoying, because it made charts more difficult to read though they solved that by removing most charts completely.

"they need to fix much more important stuff".

This is one of the most important things they need to fix. And it's extremely easy to fix it: just reverse the artist name and the title. A line of code (or few lines).

Hmm.... (very) long title of songs is EXACTLY the reason to NOT have this Title - Artist order in the recent play list.
Such titles will still be truncated, and what's worse, the artist name will disappear all together in cases where the title has, let's say, more than 30 characters.
And this is enormously stupid (you don't get to have at least that popup with full name when hovering the mouse over the artist's name, since you don't get artist name at all -- while the other way around, it's much more likely to have some letters from the title where you can hover over ....) !

I would ask the staff to change this .... but I lost my confidence this will get back to the old form of Artist - Title .... I don't think we'll see it in the foreseeable future.

Right. The titles tend to be longer than the artist names anyway. Most artist names are under 15 charaters.

Just an example:

The Orb - A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld

vs.

A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld - The Orb

If the artist name is displayed first, you'll get the artist name plus a large part of the song's title. If the title is displayed first, you don't get the artist name and not even the complete title.

Use your brain, Last.fm!

...because we know how important it is to them that stuff doesn't get cut off unnecessarily!
