Where are my friends? Now my friends are followers?

Bring back my friends, i don't want followers. That's stupid!

Nobody likes it, the shoutbox has been disabled, you can't update your avatar, the profile widgets gone, you can't make friends anymore, I hate the new version, I told last.fm on Twitter (they may not have seen it, but the tweet is there) it would be good if there was an option to stick to the old version, like old.last.fm or something, but no, they force the new version on us when it isn't fully functional.

Nobody likes it? I beg to differ. Lots of people do, including me. This tiny forum does not represent the majority of Last FM users. Neither were the forums on the old site which, I must remind you, were full of people complaining, often about the smallest problem. Followers/Friends. Seriously, what's the difference? Most people who agree to follow or befriend on Last FM aren't either. I have 78 so called friends. Only about ten of them truly follow and only about five are truly friends. Am I unique? I know I'm not. I reject friend requests on a daily basis because I know full well that these users are only using me to inflate their numbers. It's a kind of narcissism. So I don't give a damn about the changing Last FM terminology because it ultimately makes no fucking difference.

This is so true.  The example I like to use is a game-show host; he's supposed to be hospitable.  In other countries, he's called a presenter, and there's no presumption he's supposed to be hospitable because it's nowhere in his job title.

As for abandoning my last.fm buddies, I try to have alternate contact information for them in case the site suddenly shuts down forever.

Some people have thousands of 'friends' on Last FM. I f this site closed, I very much doubt that there would be much exchange of telephone numbers etc... Because most, not all, aren't friends at all. Mostly people accept friend requests and never communicate with these so called friends again. So technically they aren't followers either. They're just there to inflate numbers . In that way, not really different from Twitter. However, I accept that not everyone is so egocentric.

I agree inflated numbers are stupid.  I prune abandoned accounts from my friends list.

I had 8 friends. Only people who I was actually chatting with. I can't even give a number for the amount of people who wanted to "friend" me without even saying 'hi'. They were systematically ignored. The word "friend" has a real meaning to me, that is why I greatly dislike the "follower" term.

Okay, George Tait, but you had always a choice to accept or not invitations from your.. ekhem.. so called friends. Now it's nothing under control about this function. (or I should imagine it, because nobody can't use "follow" option) There was many people who "collected" friends and many who had real friends. So why the fuck change it?
