Where are my friends? Now my friends are followers?

Bring back my friends, i don't want followers. That's stupid!

Nobody likes it, the shoutbox has been disabled, you can't update your avatar, the profile widgets gone, you can't make friends anymore, I hate the new version, I told last.fm on Twitter (they may not have seen it, but the tweet is there) it would be good if there was an option to stick to the old version, like old.last.fm or something, but no, they force the new version on us when it isn't fully functional.

Nobody likes it? I beg to differ. Lots of people do, including me. This tiny forum does not represent the majority of Last FM users. Neither were the forums on the old site which, I must remind you, were full of people complaining, often about the smallest problem. Followers/Friends. Seriously, what's the difference? Most people who agree to follow or befriend on Last FM aren't either. I have 78 so called friends. Only about ten of them truly follow and only about five are truly friends. Am I unique? I know I'm not. I reject friend requests on a daily basis because I know full well that these users are only using me to inflate their numbers. It's a kind of narcissism. So I don't give a damn about the changing Last FM terminology because it ultimately makes no fucking difference.

I'm sure Last.fm will appreciate your 3 bucks for membership - hey, you might even make majority shareholder when the money from energy-drink ads runs out.

Witty. Ok, not witty, just terribly predictable. Anyway, I don't trade in bucks. You may know a lot about energy drinks - well done you - but you need to learn a little about currency.

Somebody always complains about something. Nothing you can do about that, George.

To be honest, "friends" has a bit of a "homier" feel to it than "followers". People consider this place as a place to actually make some good friends, so that's why there are so many complaints about it.

I've made five genuine friends on last fm. I wasn't looking for friends when I I began my last fm journey so I'm really grateful to the site for that. I've never and still don't think of the site as a social network but I appreciate that other users expect a different experience.

so i got 'followers' now, anyone is supposed to just 'follow' me, i guess, also alphabetical order in listing appears as too much to expect

I don't actually like my friends!  It makes no difference!  I'm sure they completely overhauled the site because it makes no difference.  But thank you for your unique perspective.

My friends are important to me, I don't like them being called followers. I don't like being called a follower. Maybe it's one of the reasons why I do not use any social media. But hey, what else can we do about it. Like I said in another topic, let's wait and see. I just want my groups and friends back.

But your friends haven't actually disappeared. They haven't changed. It's only how they are now described on Last FM that has. However, I daresay all these people who have publicly claimed that they are abandoning the site also love their Last FM buddies. Which is why they are abandoning them too. Gotta love their logical thought processes.

Words are important, and changing meaning of words change things they describe. It's the point of propaganda, so we should care about words, even in that small parts of world like Last.fm.
People who follow are someone who are like stupid mob, and people who are followed have more fame than "friendship" relations.

This is so true.  The example I like to use is a game-show host; he's supposed to be hospitable.  In other countries, he's called a presenter, and there's no presumption he's supposed to be hospitable because it's nowhere in his job title.

As for abandoning my last.fm buddies, I try to have alternate contact information for them in case the site suddenly shuts down forever.

Some people have thousands of 'friends' on Last FM. I f this site closed, I very much doubt that there would be much exchange of telephone numbers etc... Because most, not all, aren't friends at all. Mostly people accept friend requests and never communicate with these so called friends again. So technically they aren't followers either. They're just there to inflate numbers . In that way, not really different from Twitter. However, I accept that not everyone is so egocentric.

I agree inflated numbers are stupid.  I prune abandoned accounts from my friends list.

I had 8 friends. Only people who I was actually chatting with. I can't even give a number for the amount of people who wanted to "friend" me without even saying 'hi'. They were systematically ignored. The word "friend" has a real meaning to me, that is why I greatly dislike the "follower" term.

Okay, George Tait, but you had always a choice to accept or not invitations from your.. ekhem.. so called friends. Now it's nothing under control about this function. (or I should imagine it, because nobody can't use "follow" option) There was many people who "collected" friends and many who had real friends. So why the fuck change it?
