So yesterday I clicked 'Play your mix' on last.fm website as i do everyday but this time it didn't open spotify and showed me an error message saying 'You’ll need Spotify to play this track!'. I do have my spotify ready and waiting ... Thanks in advance for every solution.

Only the Youtube player works at the moment. It doesn't recognize Spotify. When you click on "I have a Spotify account" and then "Play track" in the next window, the player is stuck at "Connecting Spotify..." and returns to "You'll need Spotify to play this track!" in a circle.

Spotify have changed the library we use for playback, we're expecting them to have this fixed later today.

Small update if you missed my comment below: Unfortunately we're still waiting on Spotify's developers to restore the service we rely on for playback.  We're also working on an alternative solution using their api, in case they don't follow through; so with a bit of luck we should be back up an running again soon. For now though, only Youtube playback will work, you can change this in your playback settings.   Sorry for the hassle in the meantime.

This is very frustrating for me because I rely on this feature at work. Last.fm was and still the best way to listen to new music without having to put in much manual work. Pandora's radio algorithms are too basic and Spotify's is not diverse enough.

Last.fm, I stuck by when you rolled out that poorly received website update, I stuck by when you can never get the iTunes scrobbler working properly. but without this, you have NOTHING I want. It's sad on how such a useful website is riddled with bad decisions and unaddressed technical failures.

Still not working, nearly a week later, not at home or at work. This is the feature that truly makes last.fm useful for me, and as others have said, youtube is not a substitute. I usually play my friends' scrobbles on my work days, and I'm sorely disappointed that I can't today.

It seems there is no "business scenario" for this feature. I see nobody but Last.fm users pushing for this feature.

Spotify, either intentionally or by lack of interest, seems to not be moving with nothing. Last.fm seems to be hand tied with Spotify support, and there is no other content source beyond Youtube videos at this moment. Could be an opportunity to find something else besides spotify.

Don't know why it hasn't been announced here yet. But for those who don't know, they have a beta version up and running now. See here for the announcement: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/spotify-beta-player

Downside: you apparently need Spotify Premium.
