"The new design is certainly nowhere near as bad as some users are making out"

What an idiot. Has this guy ever even used the site before? It's barely functional. Missing huge features and what scarce features are left are either changed for the worse (ie friends now being followers for no reason) or completely broken. Even when it's "fixed" it will be just another big, stupid website with no functionality whatsoever. Considering there is no satisfactory competitor most of us are left to either try to work on the new shitty site or give up entirely.

That said, I'm glad there's some negative press about the site. The arrogant dolts running the site deserve to lose their jobs for who bad they handled this.

If they bothered to READ the complaints, maybe they could understand where we are coming from, but the new site was rushed out without even ironing all the bugs yet. I think CBS is quickly trying to kill last.fm, ever since they bought out last.fm they have been slowly dismantling it and now with this new site i think they finally will succeed.

- no functionality? C'mon, now really?

- you can scrobble from a ton of players (all my players still work - SmartPlayer, Vox (iOS/Mac OS X), Itunes, Winamp, etc).
- your library is still available, and there are more views that you can observe.
- artist profiles are present, just as before.

In fact, a good portion of the key features is still around, and a lot of the features that haven't been initially available have been switched on since.

What has in reality been handled terribly is the communication with the fan-base, and launching what was technically a beta site with a number of unfixed issues, rather than a proper RTM build. Meh, - it's annoying but in no way an end of the world. Most of the library/scrobble-count issues have been fixed; the FLAC scrobbling issues that some players experienced have been fixed; there have been changes to keep the new look but make the library views more intuitive, etc.

I would have absolutely loved some proper engagement with the community - at least to detail the reasons why some changes have been made and the direction the site aims to go in; there are also a lot of things I'd like to see implemented in the future. It's not all perfect. But hardly worth the dramatic, Hamlet-like posing of "my world just ended".

I agree with all of the communications issues could be handled much better and yes, I am also able to do much of the scrobbling from various sources however, some of the sources have to be looked into. Some scrobblers no longer scrobble for me even though my last.fm account is still in sync with the like www.ibroadcast.com I was up till the release of the new last.fm able to scrobble all my music from there. Now, I cannot. Live Radio Station streams are no longer able to be scrobbled from clementine media player...I used to be able to up till the release of the new site.  However, I agree the forums and groups should return...and they are promising their return. Sure, it might not happen with the magical wave of a Magician's wand but sooner or later, I am certain of it that we will see these old features returning back to last.fm. As for the new design itself? I see nothing totally wrong with it other than the fixes which still need mended. As well as the need for the return of the old features we have always enjoyed. However, at least from my own point of view, having once had to undergo cataract surgeries in both eyes few years ago....I can honestly say that I prefer the new, colorful look better because the darker backgrounds are 100% easier on my eyes than the all white backgrounds on literally every page on last.fm and with these darker backgrounds and so forth, I get lesser eye strain and headaches. So, that part alone is a big plus in my own opinion (at least for me it is.) Also, I do believe people are being too harsh with the Developers....They are doing what they have to in order to make everything right and like the comment-er above has stated: there is allot of fixes which have already been made since the beta release. Some fixes  take much longer than others to mend. I am waiting it all out to see what they do and if they carry out their promises to bring back the old features with improvements. At the moment, I do not see any reason why they would not do as they are promising to do. I will sit back and watch how they manage to pull this all off...Let's see what they do. In the meantime, I am still scrobbling away like I have been doing since 2013!

No. Simply bull. The site is completely different and core features have been changed (for the worse) or removed. I realize there are a lot of people who scrobble, and that's cool and all, but really what is the point of doing that if you're not getting music recommendations that are helpful to find new music? 4 similar songs on a page does not count. That is simply bullshit. I've been using this service for too long, longer than I care to even count (it's probably been something like a decade or close) and there's not a single thing left that I would ever bother even using.

Am I the only person that hears the obvious sarcasm in that post?

If they were on your side, do you really think one of the quotes they'd use would be describing it as "a cross between late-period Myspace and 9/11"?

They're basically making you guys out to be drama queens.

To quote myself: "A lot of those things I wouldn't call core features".  Not all!

Shoutboxes are back tomorrow. PMs are already back. I'd be amazed if forums were gone for good - the fact that the forum url is returning a 502 error suggests the server it's running on is having issues, rather than having been killed completely.

Can't say I know too much about the beta feedback - I've been using it for a month and really liked the new design but never gave any feedback.

Though I was shocked it was launched when it was - I thought there was at least another few weeks work there, but then I have no idea how big their dev team is nowadays.  I know a guy who worked there for 5 years - I must remember to hit him up tomorrow to see what his reaction to all this is. I suspect he won't be happy.

You also said "The API cock ups are the biggies really", implying that you didn't think anything else was particularly important. There are quite a few other crucial features missing.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. TBH, I just didn't think a point by point rebuttal was particularly constructive, I figured you'd get my point.

everything was important on old last.fm because it helped the best for MUSIC purpose which site was made for! Now it DOESN'T live up to that purpose! Those who used last.fm and cared for their music and statistic and libraries and recommends and finding and promotiing and communicating about music, those CAN understand how AWFUL and PLAIN is new version. Honestly who will use this?
Kids with Touch Screen Devices.
No one else.
Artists won't invest in something that can't gain them recognition, and user who care about music won't come ince they won't find new music.
So yeah those ALL OLD FEATURES WERE CORE. If they Weren't that core, THERE WOULDN'T BE SO MUCH OPOSERS even from old quiet users who never came to say something about last.fm, as me.
It's like someone is playing game; ho to destroy last.fm and its purpose forever.

It makes no sense to roll out the new site if it is not finished yet. I don't mind that certain features are inactive due to them performing the changes but it's them rolling this new site out before it is even completed.

It's ridiculous that they didn't include the old sidebar or many of the other features the old site has but now we're all forced to use the new site when it isn't even done yet!

I had my profile setup in a way i wanted it to be and last.fm trashed it. This tells me they don't care about my scrobbles or my activity and i'm better served elsewhere. I'm going to wait for a new site to come around because i don't have any respect for last.fm anymore. They can do what they want but i won't be a part on this site if they choose to ignore the people that are on this site all for changing the site. It's ridiculous and it's terribly implemented. Maybe they should take pointers from Facebook, because when they rolled out the new site they didn't leave a bunch of features out, they rolled out the new site pretty well minus the fact they removed a few good functionality of the site.

But this new last.fm site is horrible. Who would have thought this was good enough for a launch? This is like when buying a new car they don't include the steering wheel, brakes or airconditioning. Oh well you don't need air conditioning because you can just roll down the windows. Oh the power window buttons won't be installed for another week. This is how last.fm's new site is. it's a poorly executed mess. Not to mention they screwed with the about me and that is i think the worst thing they could have done so i don't think i'll be using this site unless they restore the about me to it's proper effect. I can deal with the inefficiencies of everything else but i need my bandlogos or no last.fm for me.

lol i reckon 20% of the last.fm users will be staying on while 80% (mainly those who have been writing code to put into 'about me' such as bandlogos) will be leaving last.fm.

Glad it made the news, but i don't think it will change back. Think this was CBS's plan all along.. just export my data and hopefully a better site will come around.. last.fm is dead.

Well my last.fm profile will be gone in a month, i am not even scrobbling. Not giving these people any reason to continue to do what they are doing. I'm plastering all over social media on how they screwed the last.fm community with this abhorant cheap change.

I can't scrobble. I use an 3rd-party iPhone app, and now it's broken thanks to the authentication problems. Whoopie...

I'm still managing to scrobble, and it seems a fair few others are too - according to their new Live page, there have been around 25000 scrobbles in the few seconds it took me to type this!

In fact, I'm scrobbling from a Google Music desktop player using a third party scrobbler. Wonder why you're hitting auth issues and I'm not?  Weird.

Must be cool to get to work on something with the intention of completely destroying it. Somebody razed my music website and replaced it with a Disney nightmare. Community is indeed a dead word.

The old site worked well as a no-threshold place to find new music, and get some overview of concerts going on. There's no money to be earned in that. As a social site it was more or less useless, or just irritating.

The one tiny place where they had the upper hand compared to other websites are also erased, messed up beyond belief: The events section is completely ruined. There's no overview of what I was planning to attend and for some reason it's not listed according to date (some bug I presume) and you can not search by city. Forget the layout, they should've focused on the meaning or reason you would've used the site.

For the record, most stuff functioned ok for me. Not had any problems concerning playback or login. Deciding anyway to close all my involvement and not configure any scrobbling anymore. It took them 11 years to get rid of me.

That's the saddest part. You've been here for 11 years. I've been here for 9. Others have been here even longer than that. It's managed to outlive countless other social media platforms for remaining so consistent. I miss Last.FM around 2007. The radio features with built-in scrobbling? The total customization... it was just heaven. I'm willing to work with anybody to get a new site up and running.

Not even the old design wasn't that great. Acceptable, but not great. Instead improving it, they made it much worse.

Well ive been a member for over 10 years,i dont ever put a coment up but i just got to this time.
LAST F.M YOUR NEW SITE IS FU*KING SH*T!!!!
i mean what the FU*K are you doing,in most walks of life you dont put things out to the public with flaws in it,your just going to drive them away, and in this game once you start to lose punters its very very hard to get them back!!
So that tells me that
-1.your doing this to actually lose customers?
-2.The guys at last.fm have no idea about marketing & reatail ?
YOU BUNCH OF DULLARDS

I don't see how anyone could be surprised, honestly. What the hell were they thinking?! You only get 4 similar songs now on a page? That's retarded beyond belief, considering it's literally the only thing left worth even using. Being forced to play radio in-browser (not ok for a power user with hundreds of tabs!) and letting spotify remove the only reason I used Spotify (last.fm playlists & recommendations on there were truly priceless. I am leaving spotify because it's gone now.) as well as this entire new sh1tty site that is complete garbage & overly "simplified" in an effort to be "minimalist" and attract the lowest common denominator of idiots incapable of figuring out a simple website with ACTUAL features, I've had it up to HERE with this crap. I'm about to walk out the door & forget all about this site I've spent YEARS aggregating my music with so I could recommendations & similar music. This was the only service in the world I felt could recommend music I actually liked & was similar to the music I chose. No other service even does that right, not even close.

Pandora sucks, Spotify radio is just as bad. If there's anyone out there who knows an alternative that actually does a good job at this (preferably without devoting years of  "scrobbling" only to be devastated when it decides to screw everyone over), please let me know? I'm dying for something. Yeah, true, I have more music than I know what to do with & probably ever will listen to, but that's a result of me trying to do this all on my own.

200 characters on my profile about section is stupid, too.

I don't mind beta releases of things with bugs, but this is just a failure every single way you look at it, and it's not a problem with bugs whatsoever. Your users, US, HATE it. We absolutely hate everything about it. So listen to us. Otherwise you'll die a slow, painful, silent death & a few years will go by -not many- before we can't even remember what Last.fm even was.
