There is a lot of (justifiable) negativity going around, and I've certainly taken part in it. To show that this is not an internet mob or rejecting change just because it's new, let's point out something good about the new design.

*Saying something good does not mean a full endorsement of the redesign or imply that it outweighs the bad.*

I like having album charts on my profile - I wish I could choose to display between 10 and 50 like how you used to be able to do with artists.

I like the graph in the library that breaks down scrobbles by year, month, and day if you keep clicking. Makes it a lot easier to look up what you listened to on any given day if you want to, plus it's a fun way of displaying statistics.

I like the in-depth graphs. But that has nothing to do with design. That's just a new feature. But that doesn't excuse the 100 features removed or left broken.

I like nothing else.

^ this exactly. You like seeing just five top artists of a user? You like there being more ads than user data?

Emil Ekholm - I agree with you!! What we need is some positivity! I really do like the new site... looking forward to it! <3 Sure they are still working on it - but it'll be fun to watch the site become usable again!  It will be - soon!

I really like the radio player at the top instead of at the bottom... and the fact I can switch it to YouTube & Spotify. Nice feature.

There is nothing to like.  Zero. Nada.  I was going to say something nice about having full charts, instead of only top-500.  But the charts are too bothersome to navigate, making browsing a chore nobody will do anymore.  On top of that, the positions are mis-numbered.  A tied position is now arbitrarily assigned a higher or lower number; one has to do some math in their head to even know where things really rank.

This company only has one thing: the scrobbler.  And they have managed to render it useless.

I agree with the others that CBS must be killing this off intentionally.  These "developers" can't possibly be for real.

I'm thinking that might actually be the case -- a deliberate hatchet job, intended to close the website. Someone decided it wasn't a profitable acquisition, so replace it with a bunch of ads and try to squeeze a few pennies out of it right before closing up shop and just sitting on the IP.

There is that old saying, about not attributing to malice something that could just be explained by incompetence... But I just can't imagine that anyone would have legitimately thought that any of this was a good idea, much less a whole team of developers allowing this to happen. How can you fuck up this bad without doing it on purpose?

The idea of top artists and top albums isn't bad. But for my taste the pictures are too big.

Sadly the bad things outweight about the good. I hope they get a lot fixed in the next days and some things from the old page comes to the new one.

And I would be very happy when more users read this

https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/new-site-launch-temporary-service-disruption-information

and this

https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/artist-and-label-last-fm-features-disabled-at-launch-12th-august

and understand what is written there.

I guess that the best thing we got from this is that people with the most opposite music tastes can finally agree on something?

@First Last: THIS (you wrote)^ You know what I've been thinkning recently? This site (getsatisfaction.com... it sounds like a p0rn site hahahahahaha) is like a big HUGE event-con-fest with all the music fans arund the world. This situation reminds me of a video a saw recently on youtube where an italian fan of foo fighters gathered one thousand of pro musicians to play one song and finally he achieved his purpose: the answer of Dave Grohl.
Perhaps by this way expressing our opinions and making campains  will help us achieve the right to be heard.

First of all, everybody scroll the hell back, zoom out. It will make the site look better.

1. The artist, album and track pages look a lot cleaner. I spend as much time there as on user pages, so it's a welcome change.

2. The library tab is sweet.

3. I like reading people's complaints and empty threats about leaving, knowing that  they are going to be here, enjoying the site, a month from now.

They are not empty threats. I kept my promise and still have not renewed my subscription since the time they removed the last.fm hosted radio player. I used to pay for some of my friend's last.fm subscriptions too. I am not doing that anymore.

I won't be on last.fm if they keep the 200 character limit on about me and the lack of being able to put extended stats on. Nothing about an empty threat. The site is basically useless for me now and if they do not restore the about me section then i'm deleting my account, nothing else needs to be said about that.

Ya, what I can say, that I gave them one-two weeks to repair at least core functions. If something is missing after this (especially about me [not that joke what it is now], "friends" correctly system, etc.) I will leave this and check very rarely, if something changes. I just will stop scrobbling, deleting account can be too hard for me. All these scrobblings of ~2 years lost.. at least someone can think "hey, he had awesome taste! Such a shame that he left last.fm" if he visits my profile.

The red EKG live thing is really great for serendipity- click on a big spike to randomly go to something popular, or a little blip for something lesser known.

I like that the artist pictures are bigger and clearer. I honestly think the new design has potential, and I said as much in the beta feedback. I just wish they would have, y'know, finished making the damn thing before launch...

Of the few things about the new site I do like include the Top Albums section on the profile, some of the charts on the live dashboard page, the bar chart of yearly scrobbles on the library, but that's about it.

If/once Neighbors, Events on profiles, and the About Me are reimplemented, I'll be ok with the site, but it very far from ready.  It boggles my mind that even a soulless corporate bigwig would even ok this wholly unfinished site to launch already--so much is missing and the negative outcry so massive.

Well, I guess the graphs on the artist page are pretty neat, showing the amount of global scrobbles in the past week, month and so on...

Why? None of us like it.

Alright, I'll bite.

The graphs are kinda cool. But it seems like they spent more time on them than anything else on the site, which in hindsight, is awful.

@Erik - I agree with what you're saying - there are good things about the graphical design. Including top albums on the profile is a nice touch. However, the cosmetics don't really interest me much.

I also agree with:

The dashboard is great, it should really be the home page. I hope the devs keep it fresh by adding new widgets from time to time.

Mainly I'm glad to see the back of the monstrous, bloated 2012 redesign. My interest in the site has been rekindled.

As a stats fan I like having the scrobbles broken down by years and months. The library view feels kind of messy though. It's neater in a way, but at the same time more complicated, because everything is on multiple pages, there's no compact overview of everything at once.

Top albums on the profile, great. Would be nice of you could change the number.

I thought you could see a breakdown of stats by week/month/year on the old/good site.  Shame about the adds everywhere (which I'm pretty sure is why they've broken up the content across multiple pages but the graphs are a nice addition.

Oh, I found something else! No more limits to how many artists and albums are displayed in the library. Used to be 500 I think, which seems like a lot, but some artists have huge discographies, plus live covers, remixes, etc... I actually reached around 400-something once. That's rather nice.

who need top albums?! We came to the site to learn about new music! and not to stare at top albums with gray circles instead of pictures on each profile page!

ABSOLUTELY ZERO! NOTHING TO LIKE or AKNOWLEDGE IN NEW VERSION.

Well, not everyone uses the site exclusively to find new music. Some like to look at their stats. I like to look at my stats. But you're right about the grey pictures, lots of album cover art doesn't show up, and they disabled the option to upload anything.

I can't say anything positive about the design, sadly. I wish I could. I was absolutely willing to accept a change and get on with it, but one can only take so much. This new design is horrible and leaves me puzzled. There is only very little info now compared to the previous design. What's the sense of only having five artists on the main page? Who would really like the big pictures of those five artists? The old system was perfect as it was. We had visible charts we could customize to our own taste (10-30-50, week, month, year, etc.) I always thought one key feature of Last.FM was building charts based on your listening habits. So why stripping it to the bone, at least on first glance? A chart to me almost equals a signature. It defines a person almost. When you strip that feature, it makes it all less personal. Note how our main profile pages have started to look more like one another. With the 'about me' section gone the way it was, and with so little visible data, one big attraction of the profile page is gone.

Using the site doesn't make it any better, apart from features that are missing now and will return. I do like the in-debth library options, but they could as well have not bothered because they forgot to develop it in a way that is friendly to use. Instead, it's very bothersome indeed looking into your library and see all the stats. I have been toying with it for like ten minutes to see if there was something to like, but no. I got annoyed because I have to use the scroll wheel of my mouse way too much. Apart from that, what's so interesting about knowing how much tracks you played on May 3th, 2010?

I don't mind the site design, but it's incomplete, they reduced the about me section to 200 characters and you can't even add in your favorite widgets related to the site. They killed the customization for user profiles so it's really hard to say something positive about the new design because they got rid of what made last.fm good. Now it looks no better than what facebook was doing with scrobbling. I can't use the site now because of this. They didn't offer anything in return like maybe a separate section or something so they can have their million ads on the side. It's a disappointment.
