Merge `hip hop` with `hip-hop`

I am sick and tired of this problem. Please, merge hip-hop and hip hop.
Now in my listening reports instead of seeing more tags I have two hip hop ones where one of them is hip-hop and the other one is hip hop. Those should be one tag. I do understand it's peoples personal preference, but couldn't you at least make `top tags` @Listening reports act like it's the same tag? It certainly wouldn't hurt anyone.

I don't think tag redirects is supported, but I would like to add hiphop as well.

There are numerous tags like this that should be combined. Other examples are electropop/electro-pop, rnb/R&B/randb, etc

Tags are a bit of a mess in general, to be honest. I am annoyed by how frequently I see an artist's own name in their tags. In addition to merging of certain tags, I feel like it would be incredibly useful if there was a "tags" page for each artist, a bit like the image libraries, where you could vote them up/down.

There is a tags page. For instance https://www.last.fm/music/Brutalist+Architecture+in+the+Sun/+tags

You vote by adding the same tag as someone else. After a while it can be used to create a tag cloud.

In my honest opinion tags should be replaced by genres...solely.

I disagree, tags shouldn't be replaced by genres. Save for like twenty or so rappers and twenty or so obviously rock bands, I don't have a clear idea on what genre to call most of the artists in my library, and personally I don't benefit too much from knowing the genres anyway, since I don't explore music that way. Mostly, I tag release years, personal impressions, and some other miscellaneous short info.

I do think we should be able to have an insight into all of the tags that other people apply to a certain artist, album or song (or, if more feasible, 100? 200? most used tags). I suppose that's what Elliot is getting at also. Something like a list, or an overview.

You are free to disagree. Genres should be imported from music brainz for an example and that would make the whole tagging system much cleaner. Plenty of people tend to add some random tags that make absolutely no sense as if they are messaging around, trolling.

We are talking ideas that probably won't be implemented any time soon, but in any case, maybe keeping the tagging system, but importing the genres from music brainz would work - separating them and having both instead of replacing one function. Last.fm lost much of it functionality after the rehaul. Seriously don't think it needs further taking away from what active users actually can bring to it. I don't like the trolling either, and I see the tagging system being abused often, but I also see it being used purposefully. I'd hate to lose that aspect of the site as well.

@Jim - that's not really a proper page. It'd be like saying an artist has an images page but all it links to is an "upload image" feature.

I'm thinking of something akin to the Tracks page, where there's a long text list of the tags linked to the artist, and you have a up-thumb and down-thumb at the end of each line. A rough mock-up if it helps:

@kloshar most likely. It takes ages for last.fm to implement simple features. Perhaps they are busy with something else but if they did better job at communicating with the community then people wouldn't have an assumption that they are not doing anything.

I think they're still busy with the underlying catalogue implementation and how it handles scrobbles, redirects, etc - although I do believe it's meant to be nearing completion. I recall Jon said something about they intended to have rolled it out by now but found an unexpected issue that they've had to iron out.
