Merging Witness and Witness Deluxe

Katy Perry’s Witness (deluxe) was released some time ago which is great but the problem is that it LITERALLY replaced the standard edition. Thus, the standard edition can’t be scrobbled anymore.

The main issue I encountered is that any song I scrobble from Witness (deluxe) it’s registered as a different song from the the standard edition. Therefore, I have the same tracks appearing in my list twice. As a result, the experience becomes quite inaccurate. Chained to the rhythm, for instance, used to be my #1 top track before this happening...

I kindly suggest merging the two albums because the deluxe version has only 2 extra songs or... at least make the other songs scrobble as tracks from Witness (standard)

A lot of people are requesting that albums be merged, unfortunately it isn't available right now. :( (At least as of 5 months ago). Your issue is more complicated than others, so maybe you'll get an official reply. ;) However:

Any Way To Merge An Album

Usually this would be possible, but right now it's not possible to merge items in the catalogue (or create/remove redirects). When it's fixed it'll be possible to merge albums like this into one entry and reassign any scrobbles. The ETA is that it should be fixed this year...

probably its problem and with the name of the tracks, that may have changed (ex: feat that was placed or removed from the track name) from one album to another and not with the album name that nothing interferes with the number of tracks scrobbles

Update: I see they’ve solved the issue. :) Now every new scrobble from Witness (deluxe) counts as previously scrobbled tracks, not as distinct tracks from the standard edition.

It still bothers me they removed the standard edition from Spotify though (which btw is between my ‘top albums’). I still believe last.fm should merge those versions or simply scrobble the additional songs from the deluxe version as separate entries.

The problem is you are looking at this purely from the perspective of a Spotify user, and that nobody else scrobbles using other streaming services, or - shock, horror - their own purchased mp3s and CDs. I, for example, almost never use Spotify, instead preferring to own my music.

While it's true the deluxe version seems to have replaced the standard edition on digital and streaming platforms, that doesn't mean the original standard version stopped existing. https://www.discogs.com/Katy-Perry-Witness/master/1193114

Deluxe versions and standards versions should never be merged, in my opinion - they are distinct releases. If they were the same thing, there'd be no such thing as a deluxe version. Aside from the differing tracklistings, deluxe versions frequently have distinct artwork, too.

I believe Last FM is aiming for some kind of aggregating feature for albums in the future, so that (to use this album as an example) there will be a "master" page for Witness, with listings for the variations as sub-pages. Don't quote me on that, though; it may be that it was merely a staff member agreeing it was a good idea when someone mentioned it elsewhere, rather than a statement of intent!

Last FM's primary purpose is surely accurate listening stats for users. As such, your suggestion seems to be driven by a desire for aesthetic tidiness rather than statistical accuracy, which is not really in step with Last FM's raison d'être.

Merging would be correct for things like "Witness (Deluxe) [Clean]", "Witness (Deluxe) [Explicit]", "Witness (Deluxe Edition)", and "Witness (Deluxe Version)".

To be honest I thought merging albums will solve the issue with identical tracks being scrobbled as distinct entries. Seeing this from your point of view, I agree: merging albums is not a good option. Moreover, they solved the issue: now I can scrobble those tracks without having duplicates and also someone gave me the standard edition’s link. :D

On the other hand, I am sorry for my misunderstanding... I didn’t know you can scrobble using mp3s and CDs, but merely using streaming services.

Speaking of that, how can you scrobble if you use CDs or mp3s ?

Download the desktop scrobbler and use it with your media player of choice (iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc).
