When browsing the album section of the artist pages, I often see that there are several albums missing, especially new releases.
Is this a known issue? If yes, when will this be fixed? I have not found any post explicitly mentioning this.

Hi Lennie,
Sorry about that. Have you got a couple of examples we can take a look at?

An example is the newest record of a band titled Death Angel - The evil divide. It doesn't show up on the artist homepage. Even when we tag it.

There's not a single artist with all albums displayed on the profile. Only those that were once added by labels are visible. It's always been like that.

No, Last.fm also pulled album data from MusicBrainz, but that importer have not been running for a while now.

@holland25: I guess you're right, for some reason I thought that the albums would be either automatically added when scrobbling or grabbed from another place. Since the label pages etc. are not available at the moment, it might be impossible to add new albums :)

@Pellitero: I have noticed it first here: http://www.last.fm/music/The+Delta+Saints/+albums (there is the new album 'Bones' missing, which was released on August 7, but there are many other pages. For example, Dan Auerbachs 'The Arcs' (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Arcs/+albums) have released a new album on September 4, but I can't see it on the album page.

They are added to the database immediately after someone listens to them. Unfortunately not on the artist's page. Only a relatively low number of them is present on there.

I can give you a quite fresh example. Less than a month before the revamp I made an entry for "Blueprint Bonfire" by Dan Bergh. It's not among the artist's releases at the moment. Maybe because it's that recently released? You've done your migrations chronologically, or what? The album should be found here. As you can see it hasn't registered as many scrobbles as it should have and the tracklist is gone.

Lastly, since I have more releases waiting to be inserted to your database... when will the music manager service be up and running again? Any estimations?

Hi Burr,

Thanks for reporting the issue.

When you say you "made an entry", did you submitted the release through the previous Music Manager? Was the entry created through a scrobble submission?

Regarding forthcoming or missing releases, is there an existing entry at MusicBrainz? There is a further info about the current last.fm catalogue at https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/last-fm-artist-and-label

Hi and thanks for the answer,

Yes, I "made the entry" via the previous Music Manager. However, (I don't quite remember) there might have been a chance that I scrobbled one or two of the tracks before the entry insertion to the database. In that case I provided album metadata before the actual creation of the album page via MM. Short answer to your questions in this case might be just: "yes and yes", if you know what I mean?

I will look into the MusicBrainz services later tonight, thanks for the advice. Keep in touch.

Am I right to assume that releases of an artist now should  automatically be added to the artist page, if there is a musicbrainz database entry? If so, I have several releases which aren't visible on last.fm at all...

Hi again Pellitero,

I've added an entry at MusicBrainz for my releases now and I will make sure my music is being documented there as well when making upcoming releases. Hope it'll help you guys further on.

Cheers

Thank you Burr.

Hi Lennie,

That is correct. If the release has a MusicBrainz entry, it should be displayed on the last.fm artist releases page.

The current catalogue, as the example above illustrates, is not complete. We will be looking on the forthcoming weeks to different sources of data to form the final last.fm music catalogue.

Thanks again for flagging the display error and apologies for the inconvenience.

You're welcome. I'm still curious about the estemations regarding the MM, etc. Any new status info that you could share? Also, do you need any QA done more than the community already does? We're plenty of developers around, you know.

I'm having the same issue. I mostly use last.fm to check out what the most popular tracks on new albums are. With the new site, it seems like most new albums do not display on the Artists' pages. Also, while I can find the album by searching for the title, the album page doesn't have any analytics (i.e. doesn't show number of plays for each track; or even list the tracks for that matter...)

So, a little bump here just to see how things are going atm.

I've been checking back at the earlier mentioned release pages. They have, as I've told you, entries at MusicBrainz, but they still don't show up at the artists's libraries.

I can see how Last.fm could benefit on having MusicBrainz as a complementary service, but in the best of worlds, shouldn't you be the source?

Bump.

Given that we have album art work in recent tracks it makes missing albums very noticeable. Is this a matter waiting for syncing with musicbrainz?

Here's one more example of album listed there that isn't on lastfm

Hi,

Artwork images are not sourced from musicbrainz, but need to be uploaded through the page release itself. Unfortunately the image uploader is still off-line, as it is the catalogue import from musicbrainz. Both features are still being worked on.

"uploaded through the page release itself"

how do you do that? is this something that only the label can do?

No, any user with enough scrobbles is allowed to upload images for artists and releases (album covers).

oh right, I misunderstood. I'm talking about the album itself, not the album artwork.

How do you add an album if it's missing?

OK, that isn't working right now. Earlier you could sign up as a label or artist and add releases that way. This is not available now. Another way was to add the album info to MusicBrainz and Last.fm would import the data from there, but as far as I know the importer is not running now.

Gotcha. Is that something that will be run again in future? If so, I might go fill in some missing albums myself and sit tight until it comes through

Is there any news? Is there no way to add an album still? Import from MusicBrainz is not working.

Over at https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/website-update-27th-january they say
The biggest bit of work going on right now involves making improvements to the catalogue. This will run for a few sprints and will focus on cleaning up existing data and having recent releases better represented.

Hi Alexey,

As James and svilcans say, the catalogue on the live site is still not updated and works are still being carried out to "clean" entries created from incorrect metadata, duplicates, etc...

Which album are you referring to? I will check.

Thank you Alexye. I will investigate the reason why they are not being displayed on the new catalogue. The reason could be the one svilcans mentions. Thanks for the example.

Hi, we (http://www.last.fm/de/music/LeveL+-1) have nearly the same problem:

could you please remove the albums titled "An 8-Bit Tale", "Promo EP" and "XunknownX" on our last.fm page!

instead of these - it would be cool to add our EPs "VR Dystopia" and "VR Revolution"on our Last.FM page...

we also made an entry at musicbrainz for both EPs!

VR Dystopia

VR Revolution

I have to bring this up again, since I have just noticed the same issue again with an album of a lesser known artist.

I can reach the album page from my library, but the page does not contain any tracks:
http://www.last.fm/music/Burn+GBG/Rock+Royale

The album itself is not visible on the artist page:
http://www.last.fm/music/Burn+GBG/+albums

This is the release on musicbrainz:
http://musicbrainz.org/release/1c3a4da8-f843-462e-aeab-2cc21cbd89f9

I have noticed the same behavior with other albums as well. Shouldn't this be fixed with the new catalogue now? If not, what can I do here?

Hello, I have a small label, about 20 releases. We have started to get heavy play on an online radio station. I noticed there was no information about the songs they were playing being displayed so I've spent about five hours yesterday and today trying to figure out how to fix that. Now I see many are having that problem here at last.fm - speaking as a music provider, seeing as how musicians get next to no money for being played on the internet, it seems the least you could do would be provide accurate information for listeners who might want to find out more or even, gasp, purchase the music. Your system seems to be impervious to corrections. How can a record label get correct information to your listeners? I do have a (brand new) account but it does not allow me to upload album art or correct the names of albums / tracks. I have entered the information at musicbrainz (just yesterday) - thanks

Hi Jane,

Unfortunately corrections are currently 'off-line', sorry about that. If you could also 'scrobble' (i.e. to add to your user account library) the releases you are referring to, please? Let me know more information about the release (artist/album title) if after scrobbling and adding to musicbrainz, they are not displayed in the respective artist album catalogue page in a couple of weeks. Thanks.
