I hope the users can relate to this. It's from my heart. Last.FM is a lot more than a website to me. I'm sure a lot of you feel the same way.

Of course not. CBS only cares about the bottom line.

What they've done with the website seems somewhat surreal. In an instant they completely destroyed the efforts of an entire community.

They care more about what deal they have with Spotify than about our loyalty, and that will be their loss.

Indeed, very well written piece of work!! Thanks a lot for putting so much effort in and sharing it here. You express the feelings of most here. Last night I also was considering deleting my account, even though Last.FM has been a big part of my life online ever since I first created an account back in May 2005. I have a strong sense this is the beginning of the end.

So do I. Mostly because Last.FM simply refuses to be honest and open with us. Companies with an air of transparency are always the ones which last the longest.

Nice promotion. :P But ofc it's a joke, the fact is that it's very well written post, and probably I will share it. Good job, bro.

Thanks for the all the positive comments, guys!

And yes, I am a SHAMELESS self-promoter, although my blog hasn't been updated in months before this. ;-)

I really enjoyed reading this. The part about looking back and knowing what you were feeling at those moments is so true. I really hope Last.fm recovers from this. I loved the site way to much to have to let it go.

Listen to us, staff! Come on!

That's the only reason I use the site anymore. There used to be a bigger emphasis on music sharing, music discovery, community... and once they started to dwindle, the only thing that kept me going was the data collection. I wouldn't buy mp3 players or smartphones that didn't have the ability to scrobble. If it couldn't be Rockboxed (iPod), it needed to have some sort of scrobbling method or app, like the Zune using Zenses or ScrobbleMe for Windows Phone.

I don't think the staff realizes how important their services were/are to us. I would give a lot to have the old Last.FM back where the site was more about radio, friends, and discovery and less about ad space and corporate branding. It's so pathetic and irresponsible of CBS to push forward a beta that isn't finished. They've done so much damage to Last.FM's reputation.

But what really annoys me is the Last.FM staff themselves. They are totally, 100% spineless. That or brainwashed. When the shit hit the fan over at OpenOffice with the Apache takeover, the staff forked the project off into LibreOffice, which has since succeeded in overshadowing its parent app. There's something to be said for doing what's right versus what's right for your bank balance. The staff lost their passion for this work years ago and it shows.

I remember everybody being pissed off about having to pay to use the radio. I LOVED using the 'similar artists to [artist]'- radio to discover new music. But then, I couldn't anymore. I also know what you mean by the thing about having to be able to scrobble. I always looked forward to plugging my -at the time- iPod Nano into my pc to scrobble every song I listened to that day to my profile. But then, the scrobbler broke and just wouldn't do that. I went to the forums and found abou thousands of other people complaining about this. Did the staff solve this? No. Now the same thing is happening to me with CloudScrob, even though third party should work.

I miss the social part of the site so bad. I HATE the new following/follower system, especially because it doesn't make any sense. How am I supposed to follow those people? There isn't anything to see. We don't have something like the walls you have on Facebook. I just want it like it was before. It needs to be called friends and I need to see if they are listening to something without having to click multiple times. The least they could do was making talk to people in shoutboxes easier by adding an option to respond or something, just like I am doing now.

Exactly that, yes. They just don't have the decency to respond to us and let us know what the hell is going on and what they are doing.

Ugh. If they add a "wall" like on Facebook, I'll die. Can you imagine how obnoxious that would like?

You and I are definitely cut from the same cloth. I've felt more community on these interim forums than I have on Last.FM for years.

They shouldn't do that, no... And they won't. Way to much work. I bet they are all tired from giving this thread the 'Not a problem'- status and not saying a single word. COME ON, MAN. TELL US SOMETHING.

I had like 3 shoutboxes in which I was really active and I loved talking about the bands. Sharing ideas about upcoming albums, talking about new singles and the like. Eventually becoming closes with other users, adding them as friends... I miss that kind of community. I hope we get that back.
