Could you make a feature that would make it possible for the neighbours to be filtrated based on the country, sex, etc...I would like to get to know people with the similar taste to mine from my own country/area and I am sure a lot of other users would too, and not just people from other side of the planet, I will never meet.

p.s. sorry for my crappy English

I guess, your idea was already posted cactus. Nevertheless it's a good suggestion. Not the must have, which have to implement at next, but useful. I doubt that physical distance have to be the reason for closeness in some way, but maybe in this development phase of LFM you try "Tastebuds" to make musical (or whatever) friends in your region.

I am not saying that physical distance has to be the reason for closeness, but it would be nice to know someone that likes the same music as you.  Especially if you are into more unknown/obscure music. Someone that listens to mainstream stuff wouldn't need that since every other person you meet listens to the same stuff as you.

Thanks. I am familiar with Tastebuds, but it isn't really the same as friends (or these days neighbours, ugh) on Last.fm...and more impotently not a lot of people are on Tastebuds. Maybe if Last.fm would advertise it on their site more people would sign up.

I guess, I understand, what you like to say Cactus. Once you've tested Tastebuds, you have to remember inevitably the advantage of the last.fm features. That's why it is necessary to make last fm work as good as possible, including your suggestion.

Bump. Old last.fm had this function and it was so cool to know where your neighbour was from...

"Could you make a feature that would make it possible for the neighbours to be filtrated based on the country, sex, "

There's a lot we can and want to do with neighbours (e.g. filtering by tag is something I'd really like to see); but as Andreas hinted at, filtering neighbours by location and sex would definitely raise privacy concerns.

It's not necessary to fill in country. Last;fm already knows where every user is from anyway unless you're behind a VPN.

"Don't use social networks if you suffer from paranoia.". Last.fm is a social network? That might have been true in the past (up to a point) but now, it's hardly that. Also, what wrong with wanting to use social network and have the option to protect your privacy? It's not like on facebook you need to give all your details away, most people hide a lot of info they don't want to show. Your argument doesn't really hold up at all.

1) it's clearly a social network, this is not your personal blog, this is community. 2) you didn't understand my comment, in any social network there will be a person who somehow follows you. If you want to protect your privacy you can just don't fill those info and ofcourse there should be advanced privacy settings (option to hide info, to show info only for people you follow, etc), but if you claim that everybody stalk you that's clearly you have mental disorder, then turn off your shoutbox, don't follow anybody, block every your follower, and don't even scrobble anything because everybody will see.

PS. sorry for my english

>>>"hating such an option is useless, and besides you are not giving a proper argument against it"

Filtering your neighbours by age, sex, and location would facilitate predatory behaviour on the site, and we're not ok with that.

>>>It's not about filtering for me, it's about showing the country you are from on your profile - if you fill in that information;

If you want to share this information, you can add this to your about me or your display name.

>>>Last.fm already knows where every user is from anyway unless you're behind a VPN.

Actually, as far as I know, we don't store the user IP address, we just use their browser language to guesstimate their language and timezone preference.  If we do, I suspect it will change once the GDPR becomes enforced next year.

>>>that person needs to get a life and get out of their parent's basement and find some friends
>>>Funny being called a creep by this paranoid freak. Your highness

@666, @cactus, I don't care what history you two have - take it elsewhere.  If you continue to post insults and disparaging remarks on our forums, you will both be asked to leave.
