Hey everyone, we're happy to announce that the new Last.fm Scrobbler app for iOS has finally been released!  You can download it from the iTunes store here.

Here's a quick overview of the main features:
  • Batch scrobbling - scan & submit scrobbles automatically or manually
  • Love / unlove your favourite tracks
  • Check out Your Top Artists, Top Albums and Top Tracks over different time periods
  • Watch music videos in-app
  • View tags, artist information, top tracks and similar artists
(Note: only tracks stored locally in the Apple Music app can be scrobbled. Tracks which are streamed through Apple Music do not scrobble at this time.)

Thanks for your patience - I know it's been a long time since the last update, please give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Cheers,
Last.fm

I don't have iOS 9.3 and there's no older version for me to download.  Also you should be aware that the current desktop player won't install, when I go to allow access it just goes to the last.fm homepage.

Registers one play of a song as 10-20 plays. Use Eavescrob instead, it's an actually a functional scrobbler app.

Sorry to tell, but it's a crap. Do I have scan and submit songs every time I listen or at least once in 2 weeks, really? Yeah, I don't have enough things to care about.

That's not the only issue... Yesterday I scanned & submitted some songs and today they are gone. And a while ago I tried to scrobble 3 songs using the last second of each. They were scrobbled properly, but then I tried to delete them, but they reappered.
Btw. deleting tracks it's not that easy now as you need more clicks to do it.

Why do you make good things worse? What for? The only plus after the new site started is how the stats are presented, but it's useless when I can't scrobble. I feel it's the beginning of the end. What a pity!

Is it likely to become compatible with Apple Music any time soon?

I'm getting the random duplicate scrobbles issue on iOS 11.4.1 and I'm not syncing the device with iTunes. Any words about this from customer support? It's very annoying... :/

iOS App doesn't seem to be scrobbling for me. I don't use streaming  - all my tracks are added by connecting to iTunes and downloading. Am I doing something wrong?

How are you using it? It won't auto-scrobble like the desktop scrobbler, you have to scan and submit scrobbles after playing.

Like a few other posters I also see duplicate scrobbles from iOS.

I tend to scan and scrobble at the end of the day and do not see the duplicates in the confirmation screen. When I submit the scrobbles the count suddenly increases and I see a lot of duplicate scrobbles. As a programmer this leads me to think that the actual submission process somehow differs from what the scan results show, and that it should be possible to show the submission preview so that it reflects the reality of what actually is about to be scrobbled.

I listen to full albums and the tracks in the correct album order and can see that the scrobbles are not in that order and the duplicates also are not located subsequantially in the listening history. All the listened songs might be in the listening history in the correct order (not sure), but the randomly added duplicates make it unclear.

I tend to pause playback a lot and am wondering if that might trip up the playcount in the iOS music player and as a consequence might affect the last.fm iOS app also? I might also listen to the same album multiple times, could this make the data somehow more difficult for the Last.fm app to parse?

I do listen to music on iTunes on macOS also, but I don't sync the playcounts between the platforms (or at least I don't think I do).

I already feel that the manual step for scanning and scrobbling is a bit too much and definitely don't care to edit my listening history later to correct for this. I think I'll rather just not scrobble anything that I listen to on iOS.

That riddle is pretty easy to solve: Your iOS device only remembers the very last timestamp of a played track, as well as overall plays. So the scrobbler app has to “invent” all those extra scrobbles when you submit your plays, if you scorrbled to a track more than once.

Say, for example, you play 1 album of 10 tracks twice, then you open the last.fm app to submit those. The overview will show you “10 tracks found”, but then it has to submit 20 scrobbles (since you played each track twice). If that makes sense.

It’s clumsy, of course, but it’s the best the app can do. That’s not to say it's without bugs, either: I happen to come across duplicate scrobbles every now and then myself, even when i’m certain i only played a track once – and i submit my scrobbles fairly often (multiple times a day, if i play a lot of music). That mostly happens when i play songs that i haven’t played on my iPhone recently, but on my desktop iTunes instead.

the multiple scrobble despite a single play issue makes this app a massive fail.  Fix it please!!!

Is this app ever going to get another update? It seems like it has been two years...

It defo needs one now that the site handles compilation albums correctly, while the scrobbler app doesn't submit them correctly/completely. It's immensely irritating to have to manual correct the scrobbles - same goes for the Windows scrobbler.

The app needs to be updated to the new iPhone's screen, like iPhone X and XS Max... It's been almost 2 years that Apple released the new screen size. Please, update it.

That's good to hear, Jon. I hope the intention will be to add some extra functionality. It would be great to be able to do things like explore our scrobble breakdowns through the app - e.g. when clicking on our scrobble totals in the app for artists, it listed the albums with scrobble totals, rather than just going to an artist page.

At the very least please add support for compilation albums!! This would be an egregious oversight if it isn't supported in the next update.

I just checked the UK store again, seems there’s not a new update and I was mistaken. I saw this thread was updated within the last day and I read that as an updated app had been released. Sorry for the false excitement there, my mistake!
