You've gone live with a product which was not quite ready? How long before we can customize our page like we were able to before? I miss my sidebar with gifs, images, milestones, and band logos. Also, definitely not pleased by the disappearance of the current track playing. Equally miffed by the fact that we cannot adjust how many Artists or Top Tracks are listed on our profile page. I want to see mroe than just the top five artists and more than just the top ten songs. Also, all the old problems from the last forum went up in smoke when this new forum and site were launched. I hope the old problems don't carry over to the new site, because I was already seeing discrtempencies with my track count total before the switch.

Totally agree with all this, my top track for the last month has dropped by 15 plays, I can't see my top Artists, half the images aren't loading and my profile pic has vanished, possibly because it's a gif... The whole interface is also just an eyesore and not at all user friendly, it's confusing just to look at!

I've been using the site since 2011. I used to love last.fm and sing its praises above all other online radio sites and apps. I always chose them over pandora or spotify because of the ease of use and additional features. Now.........well, the only way i can get the thing to halfway work is through Spotify and even then I'm having trouble getting my stations to work....If that's the case, I may as well just use Spotify and dump Last altogether....

That seems about right... Why stick to Last.fm if you have to use another site for it to work? It seems ludicrous to me. I've been using it since 2007 but I haven't been able to get the most out of its stations since the YouTube integration, and now I can't even listen to it with the Spotify integration, even though I've signed up and -have- made it work, I currently can't and don't want to go through too much trouble just to listen to a station. I listen to other online radios now, but its not the same. I want Last.fm to sort it out and be what it was. :/ C'mon Last.fm, get your act together!

Well, Events are coming back eventually. I just don't understand why you'd launch the new version of the site before half of it is functional. This is ridiculous. Leave it in optional beta until it's ready. Herran jestas.

Beta sites are for beta testers willing to investigate bugs.  Actual users want a site that WORKS!  What company forces you to use a buggy test version incompletely migrated and eliminates the well-liked stable version?  I can't play songs in my library, my screen keeps dimming for some weird reason, clicking on 'read more' usually accomplishes nothing, and on and on.  Have been a big Last.fm fan for years; now opinion has dropped from 9 to 1.  In my personal experience, it wasn't broken before.  As mentioned above, it's almost useless now.  Last, are you listening?

WTF... it's been 2 weeks or so... where is my personal calendar? I couldn't care less about 'live' shit like 'today's most loved'. 'compatibility' feature was also good one, to deselect 'friends' collectors' or to find ppl with similar taste. this is totally screwed :((((

- no events (I mean events one wants to go, not - usually poor - recommendations)
- no tags on artists sites (seriosly, why???!)
- no journals (are they gone forever? please tell me they're not)
- no 'about' section
- different charts

Well for me it is totally ruined, and I'm so moved (in most negative way) by it that I have to pour my frustration all over this forums, last.fm I really loved you :(
(Well the chart thing is only one that can be considered partly plus, cause there are some interesting changes, but not for the price of everything else mentioned).

-tags are back in, from what I could see yesterday
-about section exists (though a very limited one; this will most likely change. Someone made an issue/feature tracker thread, I don't have the link any more unfortunately, but have a look on the forums)
- events, journals will be re-implemented. So will the groups.

I had a browse yesterday, and was able to find a good portion of the content and features (artist tags and the like) that the old site had. It just seems like they've gone with the launch too soon, for whatever reasons, when they haven't really finished doing everything that needs to be done.

'Not quite ready' really is an understatement of rather epic *BEEP* proportion.
Can't scrobble anything, can't even *BEEP* log in, can't try and retrieve my password because apparently we don't need such a feature (AKA it's missing).
Not to mention it looks like some rabid Mac fanboy took the Windows 8 UI,cobbled it together with some elements of OSX, a bunch of piecharts and graphs, and called it a website.
Whoever thought it would be a good idea to use a BETA product on a LIVE, in PRODUCTION SYSTEM, needs a thorough cluebatting and some web-hosting 101.

Yeah, it was easier before. I could spend hours jumping around related artists and easily discovering music. Granted, I don't think I have seen the site updated ONCE since I started becoming a regular user back in 2005. That was kind of its strength, don't fix it if it ain't broke. My guess is they are trying to appeal to a larger audience with the whole music industry shifting to online plays. So far I don't really see any added features. Some new flashy charts to see what is trending but I usually used the site as a tool just related to the artists I listened to. The formulas they have with everybody's listening history built in have made it a very reliable tool in trying to find similar artists are having a computer generate your taste (unchanged for ten years!). I am surprised no other site for movies or whatever has followed this kind of consumption model (or have they)

Anyway, the new site isn't great (so far), but I remember people always complained about the new Facebook back when they announced their updates, and it ended up being more addictive than ever each time. The main features I used for this site, events (down only temporarily I hope) and artist recommendations (doesn't show plays in my library like it did before) seem like they aren't going anywhere.

I know it's hard to run a site without changing it in ten years, but really if it works then what is the point? My only complaint ever about last.fm was they didn't have a good mobile site. Whatever mobile versions came out always had limited functionality.

As for attracting a larger audience I'm not really sure what they're looking for since again I haven't noticed any new or original features. I guess they're just going for the trend of experience-based computing (I forget the proper term) like all the other sites and operating systems are doing. I think it's the corporate plague of just going on with whatever else is successful. Just like how everything needs a separate app and a twitter page now, I don't want to ever use those things but for some reason the market keeps pushing them because I don't know people like to jump on something if it's new.

Anyway the new site isn't good but I understand stuff is buggy in the beginning. All I know is I don't really feel like touching it because I have been using the thing for ten years and really I just have to accept the old thing is gone. I know I will still come back to the site to look up stuff so we'll see if I start to pick up new habits or old ones again in a new way.

At least I'm happy to see that somebody is working on the site. If you notice the last year my scrobbles dropped significantly due to incompatibility issues with whatever softwares or hardwares I was using, plus for a long period my mobile device plays wouldn't sync. I figured the site was abandoned by its makers, so at least I am relieved to see that there are actually people back there working on it. But it could just be a front-end thing I'm not really savvy at this stuff.

Yep, pretty much sums up my feelings too.  Feels like a retrograde step but perhaps once all the functionality is back up and running it will be OK.  It seems to have been launched prematurely and for no good reason.  Why not get this stuff sorted before migrating everyone onto the new design?

To be honest, i like the newer facebook.. it was bad at first but it's actually cleaner.. but too many things wrong with this updated last.fm... you only get 5 artists displayed and you have to keep scrolling down in your library. I lost everything in about me and nothing is working right. Now since the new site has been launched last.fm got rid of the feedback pages, which they never bothered to listen to any of the feedback and if CBS wanted this site to die off, they might be getting their wish now.

Seems to me that higher powers are at work here. Their IT people know that a new release means greater efficiency, less redundancy & usually more functionality. This seems to be the work the work of bean counters. Perhaps the bottom line needs protection & not just from us

It's amazing that they pushed this through. This looks like a project that is at least 6-12 months away from completion. Maybe it'll be passable when it's done but the fact that they actually released this just blows my mind. It's missing almost all of the features that made the old site good.

6-12 months? From what I can tell, they must have started this new design from scratch, and it looks like it needs at least another few years development before it can even be reasonably compared to the last iteration.

The previous design might not have been perfect in every way, but it had a TON of useful features, and they all worked exactly as you would expect -- especially since many of them were configurable. So we traded years and years and years of development for -- what?

If I write whatever I'm listening to down on post-it notes, it would be more useful to me than the bullshit they've given us now. Almost the entire user interface has disappeared!

You also don't endear yourself to real people if you are going to be hung up about words. You are demonstrating that you are unable to relate. No one cares to listen to any one else's hangups a lot less than they care to hear noise. When I think the words are a bit much I just move on without saying anything. I'm not trying to be the word police, but my first thought was that that was your favourite pastime. The only more useless pastime I can think of is watching American television, such as CBS.

My God. Awful new site. Absolutely terrible.

My total number of scrobbles dropped by almost 200. The total number of artists in my library went down by 20 or so. A few songs that I listened to just once have now been counted eight times (at exactly the same date and time) and some album artwork I uploaded in the past weeks has disappeared again.
But more than anything else: I absolutely hate the new 'look and feel' and the new site is spectacularly, flabbergastingly user-unfriendly.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the old version...

all of our journals and groups cant be found either. as well as the rest of my links and the very back of my library. scrobbles aren't being counted properly, every time i plug in my phone or ipod, about 20,000 scrobbles are being automatically counted, after lastfm telling me they have found 150 songs. everything's a problem or broken. literally nothing good has come of this. they've reset my profile picture too and wont let me change it. it seems to be dozens of problems for every user from the opposite ends of the spectrum. get it together for christ sake. please.

While most will agree that the site in its current manifestation is quite disappointing, I think it's only fair to hold some of the criticism until after the migration of the system and data to the new site is complete. They have already stated that this is what is causing much of the loss of functionality.

I also dislike the changes, but some of the criticism here is uncalled for. They site is not up yet, in its entirety.

naw the criticism is def. warranted. They force an incomplete beta on users so they should expect a firestorm of negative feedback. We are consumers, even though we don't pay to go on this site we still bring traffic and ad revenue to last.fm. So as a consumer I have a hard time allowing myself to help last.fm with ad revenue because they callously make needless design decisions without any consideration for how their users feel.

As dedicated Last.fm users, we have the right to give criticism and feedback about this incomplete beta edition of a "site."

Thing is though, why give us the option to give you feedback when you won't acknowledge it? Especially when a lot of us are saying similar things such as:

"How come 'try the beta' became 'use the incomplete beta?'"
"Where is the 'Events' page and why did you take it away?'"
"Where are the groups and forums?"
"Why are there so many ads and blank spaces all over the site?"
"Where did the contents of my previous 'About Me' section go?"
"Why can't we view, edit, or add tags to songs, artists, etc.?"

And the list goes on...

Get it together Last.fm. God damn. And please, could you use all this feedback to make improvements to the site instead of adding needless features and whatnot to replace what many of us found useful?

Why change something if you're not going to actually improve it and/or fix all the issues it has? This just change for the sake of change. And they couldn't even fucking wait for it to be completely finished and "polished"? What's the rush?
In top of that the design is just terrible. The library looks awful. And whatever changes they do for the site to be 100% "functional" are going to be minimal, won't make an once of difference.

Absolutely! The staff have said in other posts that features are not "deleted", they just haven't had time to add them in yet. And there are a LOT of those features, and some of them are big ones. Why force the beta site on everyone when you don't even have it working properly with the basic features? It looks the same exact as the beta site they rolled out months ago, I don't see anything that has changed.

Libre.fm does scrobbling. There's also a python script out there for moving your scrobbles over. I haven't tried it though, and the instructions are for ubuntu. But if you were able to figure out how to run it on another os, I'm guessing it would work.

Songkick can be used for events, although it doesn't have the functionality that last.fm had, and you can't edit the events. Or add them, that I'm aware of.

I don't care about having to start over from scratch and if libre.fm has an add on for Foobar (I don't like 3rd party clients running in the background), I may jump over to Libre.  I'll give Last.FM a few weeks first though because unlike many here, I like the aesthetics of the new site, I just don't like how it totally screwed up my scrobbles and how I can't fix that right now since delete is disabled.

This new site shouldn't have been launched with all the negativity it got last.fm users didn't like it. I don't think i really want to continue using last.fm because now the forefront of this site is appearance instead of stats.

@gtdmouse thanks for the suggestion. I was able to import 94% of my last.fm Scrobbles over to Libre.fm. I figured it's better to do it now in case last.fm suddenly goes offline forever unexpectedly.

seriously, that's naught... protocol error when using Opera browser, cmon! Going live with such a mess? Doesn't play ANYTHING atm. Better make a list of what's working correctly - would be quicker and shorter than counting things that are not yet finished.

What's still operational:
- nothing really

Design seems nice, but really: Functionallity & simplicity > design

Think about it. Dislike it so far.

Cheers

I'm still waiting for my scrobblings to return. I'm afraid they're gone for good.

No because last.fm and let's loop functions differently. Last.fm operates using scrobbles while let's loop uses loops. The guys at let's loop are currently working on scrobbling but....you didn't hear it from me. XD

Being Dutch, it's not so easy putting it down. Just a quick try. This is totally inexcusable. I'm flabbergasted almost. Right now it's perplexing me why a commercial company like Last.FM and the folks behind it have launched a completely new site that is not ready to serve its customers. It's like opening a new restaurant without a kitchen and a decent cook. You invite people in, you advertise, but then tell people there is nothing to eat.

Marketing-wise, they've done everything wrong here you can imagine. If you are dependent from people using the site and its features, the first thing you naturally have in mind is keeping your customers satisfied and happy. Communicate well, listen to them, take their words into account and serve them. Well, a child can see that something has gone horribly wrong here. Any site like this with members and a community can only go live when it's ready to serve. Whoever responsible by the launch of the 'beta' should be fired, that's how bad it is to alienate yourself from your customers in a way like this. Last.fm right now is a broken, unrecognisable, unfinished mess, and so naturally probably tens of thousands of users per day will turn their backs on last.fm now and not coming back.

What kind of weird strategy is this, to even take the risk?
