This new 'about me' section with "200 character limit, plain text only". WHAT THE FUCK, LAST.FM. Why would you do that?

The old one was perfect. Why would you do that to us?

Your long bio would get in the way for the important side ads. Which we don't see because of adblocks so it's just goingo to be white. Voila!

Depressing but true, it seems the new site is more about actually generative revenue then adding functionality or convenience.  They've realised what Yahoo did with Flickr, they can make more money from adds them they can with premium/pro subscriptions so pretty much did away with them. I suppose they were hoping they would attract more new users than they old ones they'd lose.

A lot of users are disappointed already, including me. And there's another undeniable fact to keep in mind: we are ALL familiar with ad blockers. By default everyone uses these handy tools. A big relief for all of us, because such tools wipe away all possible irritating, intrusive third party advertising. And of course: ad blockers have also other benefits: websites load faster, and the less fortunate users (with a weekly or monthly data limit and limited bandwidth) won't waste precious data consumption this way. Conclusion: this new upcoming site is a stupid risky strategy that will end up in loss of existing loyal users and attracting a few new ones (probably running away after a short time). Because we all have our reasons to cut into the useless clutter on every website.

Personally I love the new design. It's modern and nice, but I have troubles with shoutbox (some shouts after July 22nd are missing) + scrobbler doesn't scrobble songs into my library properly.

My shoutbox is up to date now so I have no reason to complain about it. I'm only waiting for the cached songs from the scrobbler to appear in my library but that's all. Besides, updating a website as huge as last.fm isn't supposed to take 5 minutes like most of you whiny kids think. I don't think any website can be updated in 5 minutes. It takes a lot of time to make things work properly because they have to use the damn CODE to do those things. And making dure everything's written right takes hours. I have studied this in my media arts school and making a website from scratch took me 7 DAYS. So please have patience and wait and stop whining. It's not that easy. -.-

The old site was working superb. Once again, the Linux attitude, their point of view about updating/upgrading: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" - no need for further explanation, right?

I'm afraid that will be the final outcome, indeed. Just finished answering a "graphic designer". I kept it as polite as possible, like I mostly do. I only shoved the truth down her throat in the shape of something to ponder about :) ...just scroll down a bit if you want to know what I think about this whole issue. Even though I bet most of you know what the real issue is, anyway. And I'm wasting my time here, I shared my opinions and concerns, that's all I can contribute. If the Last.fm HQ likes to shoot in the dark, like a deaf/dumb/blind cowboy, then so be it. Plenty of alternatives fit for each and everyone of us, anyway! "De gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est" ... that's the golden rule to follow and to obey. But for now, I'm waiting for the moment that this whole site transformation is finally finished. Only then it's wise to decide for ourselves whether it's an improvement or a failure. But right now, the benefit of doubt is still in order. Well, at least for me it seems wise.

You can't predict the site's fate like that. Just because MySpace died doesn't mean that last.fm will die, too. That's just nonsense :'D

reduced functionality and the amount of complaints with the new system isn't exactly winning. If the site looses 300 people and gains 10 or 50 people, it's not exactly a good change. Had they kept the functionality on the about me and i wouldn't be complaining about the new site and leaving in a month if they don't fix this problem.

the biggest problem here is to many people complain and those people then stop that probably why we people who keep complaining they don't listen to us

Aexer, I've been using last.fm since October 2009, so stop calling me a newbie.

Also, I'm a professional Graphic Designer. I know what I'm talking about. If your website is outdated and boring, you won't sell and it gives people a image that you don't care about anything but if it's modern, you'll get noticed better. That is the truth. All corporations update their website regularly to follow this simple rule.

...and 95% of corporations who revamped all of a sudden their whole website, strategy, concept, ... went bankrupt, or simply dissapeared after a relative short time. Some others are still spamming former members to come back, begging on their virtual knees. Food for my spambox. You're a graphic designer? I'm a consultant / troubleshooter / support agent (and a dj too, but that's off-topic right now). I also know what I'm talking about. I saw many big companies fading away until no one even talks about them. Why? They tried the very same what last.fm is doing now. They revamped everything so no one could recognize the previous concept anymore. Too much was changed at once. The main reason why existing users went away and new users weren't interested anymore. There's nothing wrong with some (small) changes now and then, and if a company like last.fm has big changes in mind, it should happen step by step without confusing their members (a.k.a. users) too much. That's always the best strategy that is proven to be successful. But suddenly turning everything upside down is just stupid. The new site differs too much from the previous one. It's hard for a lot of users to get used to such big changes. That's the reason why most of us complain. This is something you ought to know as a designer. Or is money really the only thing that matters? The most important issue here is mass dissatisfaction. This can ruin a whole company. Is such a shot in the dark worth it?

Well then. Leave last.fm if this new site troubles you so much, but I know this is not the end of this site at all. You will see it for yourselves in the future. :'D
