The last big update was in November or October, i think. What is happening? Are we get any updates soon?

The most recent updates from staff member Jon indicate that the development team are working as a priority on the catalogue and library issues still, a fix for which is expected soon. This involves a lot of work and is expected to, among other things, fix a lot of library bugs and bring back the ability to add, change and remove redirects in the system. Jon has suggested to expect news in late March or early April, although obviously timescales can change in development!

The only other work I've seen touted by staff as a possible plan for 2018 is a bit of an overhaul of the public API, but that's not been confirmed.

>>>Jon has suggested to expect news in late March or early April, although obviously timescales can change in development!

Unfortunately, that estimate is no longer accurate -- the team are still aiming for the end of the month to build the new service, but actually deploying it and decommissioning the old one is going to take longer.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

As we're replacing one of our core systems, rather than doing something like this, they want to have both services running for a good period of time to ensure that the new system is working as expected and can handle the load we usually get.

>>>bring back the ability to add, change and remove redirects in the system

Again, so everyone's clear on this point - this won't happen when we deploy the new service.  It only removes the blocking factor that has prevented us from adding new corrections to the site for the last 2+ years.  Actually building the tools / systems to update new catalogue redirections on the site is a separate piece of work, which I expect will follow shortly after.

>>>a possible plan for 2018 is a bit of an overhaul of the public API, but that's not been confirmed.

Work on the API is still planned, but a complete overhaul is probably not realistic as there's other work we want / have to do this year as well (e.g. the catalogue, corrections).

I'm not sure about the appropiateness of my question Jon, but was Last.fm's dev-team minimized the last months or in 2016/17 by CBSi? Or have they work on other projects out of Last.fm?
Everyone can see, the relationship between tasks and manpower on our little ship is far out of proportion.
Because of that I would like to know, if there's a way for us customers to appeal at CBSi for more employee for Last.fm?

No nothing like that, of course people come and go as in any company, but the team size has been fairly stable for the last few years. However, it's true that we're a very small team, compared to the size and scale of the site.  I think it's just becomes more apparent when we do bigger projects like this, because it prevents us from doing other things.

Sure, but we have to be pragmatic about it: our resources are what they are, and the work still needs to get done.  If some things take longer to finish, then they take longer to finish. There's no risk of sinking, it's just a longer journey than originally assumed, so there will be fewer stops on the way.

I'm cautiously optimistic though -- this project fixes a lot of the things in the library that broke when we relaunched the site, and lays the foundation for fixing problems with the catalogue & corrections -- by far the most reported problem right now.  The downside has been a lack of incremental updates and fixes in the last 6-7 months, but those will pick up again.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is just actively support the site -- be it through subscriptions, merch, scrobbling, or even just encouraging your friends to sign up.  If you're blocking ads on the site, ok, but I would ask you to please at least consider opening your top artist pages in another browser every now and then (no need to click on ads, we make money from displaying them) -- over time that would probably make a world of difference.

Anyway, I'm closing this thread as the original question was answered, and the discussion is now meandering a bit.
