I've seen a lot of posts about this but I can't find anything from any staff members addressing it or even letting us know that we're being heard.  Is this even a consideration anymore?  The customized side bar (including pics & gifs) was absolutely one of the very best features of last.fm.  Please consider that your members are telling you that we don't want clone pages.  I know that the staff has been working hard to develop this new site and I appreciate that the process takes time (beta?) but if you want a successful site, please respond to your members' information concerning what works for us here.  Thank you.

Hover over your profile picture (top-right of your profile) to go to your settings.
There you can write your About Me in your profile settings.
Right below the "About you" box, you'll find your old "About Me" contents. Make a copy of your old stuff before you save your changes!

Everybody knows this. You find the problem in the limitation. Only 200 signs are allowed. Furthermore you can't use BB Codes.

I found out all about that shortly after I posted. I didn't think it could be that bad. I was so disappointed with the beta stuff that I instantly regretted making an account here to help. And even more so when I read about many other serious problems.

Though the next day I got a reason to believe that this is a temporary inconvenience and they could have saved the users a lot of frustration and speculation if they told us about it from the beginning. I speculate that the baby beta site can't deal with the data traffic that images and links would cause (or they chose not to deal with it for now).
I discovered that also in Inbox/Sent messages, and in Shouts, all the BB codes were deactivated (basically, in EVERYTHING that can be accessed through the beta site). Furthermore, I can imagine that stripping the user profiles down to a minimum makes it a lot easier to debug and analyze all the ads stuff, which is maybe the only thing on their mind now.

Although I was 'lucky' enough to have this 'old stuff' section that I could copy and paste elsewhere, many people are saying that this doesn't appear for them, and their old stuff seems to have been lost completely!

Dear Staff.
I hope you have had a relaxing weekend.
Now are 2 month gone since Arielle wrote this thread. But you gave no response since more then 8 weeks. That seems to be not very courteous.
Especially because it is a constructive contribution.
And I haven't found a answer by Last FM.
So what is your intention in this case?
With kind regards,
Andreas

Perhaps you should check for answers in one of the many, many other threads on the same subject.
You can answer people, but you can't force them to listen.

But those replies dated back to last July, are they not? We are in October now and we haven't received any substantial information from the developers. That is why people are getting frustrated. The responses are scarce and vague and we are still stuck with the broken site. Thank you for the link by the way, it was nice to see how a good website looked like.

Perhaps you should get off your high horse, Champion of Nothing.

Out of the many, many threads you pulled one that is not even part of the new site nor this support forum. Well done!

I appreciate the link posted by svlcans to the post by Maddieman.  It's the best response by any staff member I've seen.  I don't even know how one would find it without that link.  Also, it was written before the Beta version was even released.  I accept that we're not going "back", that the change has happened.  I can even accept the new visual design.  But the feeling of community & access to community simply disappearing in a flash was an unpleasant shock for what appears to be everyone, or at least most of the members.  A number of my favorite friends, all long term members, have deleted their accounts and disappeared.  I've signed and shared the petition, (link posted above by Andreas), asking for the old last back, as have almost 10,000 other members.  What I'm really asking for, at this point, is a return of the many features that made last.fm a community with easy sharing access.  I don't need to enumerate those features here because so many have already done so in many different threads.  We all know what they are.  I think that if we give it time and continue to express what it is that we want to see here, it's possible that those features will re-appear.  At least that's what I'm still hoping for.  I'm a subscriber & would be happy to continue subscribing if there's a response to all of us who care about last.fm and the response is actually those missing features returned - in whatever visual form at this point.
