on this page: https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm/topics/new-site-launch-temporary-service-disruption-information shouts and private messaging are crossed out. Which seems to suggest you've done with reviving this feature. However only the last 10 shouts are accessible. So does this mean it's going to stay like this?

One of the many ways I liked to discover new music using the old site was to go to an artist page who had become famous during the lifetime of last.fm. Navigate to the first shouts and go to their user pages; users who are ahead of the curve, who picked up on famous artist before anyone else. And check out what they're listening to now.

Is this another sad feature death to add to the list of many. Is this what you mean by "surfacing our data", that we will only be able to scratch the surface of it?

Or will this be fixed and you actually haven't quite done reviving it.

Please fix this feature. People look for historical shouts for a variety of reasons. If you leave this disabled, and not have it as before, a lot of valuable information is lost as the above posts shows. Also, people will post fewer posts if their existence is so short lived. I have often posted links to new-album reviews, or posts with segments of hard-to-find lyrics, etc.; in part as a service to the artist or other users and in part so I can look back at it and refresh my memory of the lyrics, etc. Now, those shouts are no longer visible.
I too went first to the list of progress with the pre-beta functions that are no longer working, and saw you had crossed out "shouts" as if that function was fully functional now. It isn't, so I hope I you are not finished repairing the shout function on song pages and artist pages.

I've been using last.fm since 2006, and as cheesy as it sounds, my old shouts mean something to me. I'm sure they do to many here as well! They're kind of nostalgic. Old conversations that date back to friends I made through the website in my early 20's. I like to see those from time to time. Now they are gone.. This is very sad.

Yes. All of this. I love browsing pages of shouts for many different songs and artists. It's always been one of my favorite things to do on last.fm, and a unique and meaningful thing this site offers me that none other does. Please put shout history back :)

Please enable shout history! This is very valuable for a lot of reasons! Scrolling people's conversations is a small remaining part of our personalization , what little of it
remains. PLEASE. I've been a user since 2005.

This actually bugs me more than anything else does. Without a full shout history, artist pages no longer function as de facto forums. That's a big loss.

Are they still migrating data from the old site? So the older shouts from shoutbox are not avalaible at this moment?

Ehm, Hans-Jürgen, Champion 3 hours ago

Shoutboxes don't offer a pagination at the moment, so you cannot switch to pages with older shouts. But they have not all been deleted, as far as I know, it's probably just the amount of data that still has to be synchronised.

thank you holland25, i presume you're quoting a post from Hans from some other thread (when i click on the link you've given it takes me to a picture of a peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich), i didn't spot this message as i don't read every post on this forum. But it's at least reassuring to know that some vague commitment to reviving this feature has been made by someone who may be an employee of last.fm or is at least in some way connected with the company as a 'champion'.

Yeah, from another thread about shouts, I just didn't know how to post a link to a particular comment, so I've decided to rather copy the quote.

To be exact: it is just a technical issue, as the shoutbox pagination is not ready yet, i.e. it still has to be ported to the new site like many other features. The old shouts are still there, they just cannot be displayed right now.

I will merge related threads with this one now. And you can link to a specific posting in a thread aka "permalink" by copying the link connected to the time shown in the upper right corner.

Last but not least "Champion" is the new word for mods now, just as threads are conversations and forums are categories etc. Please forward your complaints about this terminology directly to Get Satisfaction. ;-)

So where are all of our shouts? I have been with last.fm since 2006, and actually longer than that with earlier profiles. Sometimes, I like to look back on all of my old shouts for old time's sake. Very nostalgic. Now, I can only see the most recent 10 shouts. Granted, the older you get the less people notice you, haha! Still, it's fun to see old shouts. Is this temporary or did you all permanently delete our old shouts?

What they've done with the new shout system is ridiculous. It only shows the most recent shouts you have. I had over 20,000 shouts and have made many friendships on last.fm over the years and had a ton of overnighters with friends posting back and forth through shouts. I met my girlfriend on last.fm back in 2010 and we're still together to this day and our first few months of conversations was all in those shouts. My memories are now gone. I really hope they are fixing this and bringing back all of our old shouts and not getting rid of them completely.

Well, I don't really mind this new design. Really, it actually find it to be quite beautiful and all. But there's something that really bothers me: the shoutboxes. It seems that last.fm has not only managed to shorten the number of shouts per page (which is okay though), but also to make it not possible anymore to read the older pages. as if that only shouts that will remain there are the current ten or so that have been recently posted, excluding all the pages from before. I am certainly not the only who had a lot fun by reading what people posted in this site, and am really frustrated that this might not be possible anymore. I'm looking forward to knowing whether this is just something temporary or not, and if the latter is true, whether or not exists the possibilitiy of the shoutboxes getting back to how they used to be like.

I thought that the missing shouts were a bug, so it isn't? That's a shame.

Yes, only 10 shouts per page is ridiculous. I'm starting to use last.fm not as often as I used to because of the new design and all of the lacking features. So please bring back the older shouts (or let users decide how many shouts they want on their page!).

Same problem here. If this is a new "feature" (read: flaw) then I hate it.
