Well, i gave a look at this beta version a month ago, before it went live. It is beautiful, a total redesign and I really liked it a lot. Of course it was just a beta version, so a lot of the functionalities that i love (eg. taste-o-meter, comprehensive charts, dedicated recommendations page, the profile customization and many others) weren't there. I thought that you guys would implement them slowly on the beta version, and when everything was ready, you'd prompt all the users to migrate to the new version (giving some time for the users to adapt to the new interface).

I was surprised that you decided to launch the new website so prematurely. You should only launch a new product when it's done, and everything is working properly. If you still want to launch an unfinished version, at least give the users the option to stay at the old design a little longer, until things have settled down here. This way, you'd have the users feedback about the new site, and people wouldn't be raging all over you at the forums.

So here's some ideas i guess would make everyone happy:

1 - Let the user choose if he wants the old or the new design (until things are REALLY ready)

2 - LISTEN TO THE USERS FEEDBACK. There are people on this website who have been here for 10 years. And THEY'RE STILL HERE. Only reason I see is that they genuinely like the last.fm experience. Old and new users provide proper feedback and send ideas and suggestions because they really like last.fm and they want this website to improve more and more.

3 - Bring back key functionalities that existed on the old last.fm. I know the new site implementation is keeping some of those disabled for a moment, and i saw some replies on the forums mentioning that they'll come back gradually in the next weeks or months. But they were the things that differentiated last.fm from other websites. This community feeling that last.fm had, that's why i stayed here for so long. I was proud to put my last.fm profile link in my twitter bio. Every time i met a new person, when the topic "music" would start, my first question was "what's your last.fm username?". Please, bring the functionalities back ASAP.

I sincerely don't care if you want to fill last.fm with ads and squeeze every single percentage of profit that you can from the website. I just want to be able to scrobble my songs, make new friends, discover great artists and have my cute profile page, like i always did.

If CBS thinks last.fm is an outdated social newtork, that it doesn't generate profit, that it will lead you to bankruptcy, that it's useless, THEN SELL IT. I'm sure a lot of people out there would be interested in improving what was already good, create new, exciting features and work together with the last.fm community to create an amazing experience on this website.

You guys know that a wonderful work can be made if you would just listen to the community.
I know it must be hard for you to do that, but at least try to. That's all i ask.

PS: Please, merge the last.fm profiles with these forums profiles! I know maybe it's better like this, all the issues can be addressed and resolved here and more attention could be given to them, but at least merge the logins.

Almost five days since i posted this. By the way it looks, we're never getting the old version back. This migration is probably definitive, and a reactivation of the old site would be impossible. They are reactivating things slowly, which is a plus, but still lacks some key features widely used on the previous website.

Also, Last.fm team is not answering. Sure, they're busy with the migration, but they should at least respond to the ones who are giving ideas and looking for improvement on the website. A lot of people are raging because their loved design is gone, and this minimalist layout is "ruining last.fm experience". But there are some people really sending suggestions, and I hope the last.fm team listens to these users feedback.

My heart melted when i entered a post from the old forum with the old layout. Yeah, I'll miss it, but things change. Even your beloved social network layout does.

"Sure, they're busy with the migration, but they should at least respond to the ones who are giving ideas and looking for improvement on the website." - If the past few years are anything to go by, there's no guarantee that they'll respond even when they're not busy. This is about what one would expect.

Frankly, I like the new design. It's clean (at least with an Ad-Blocker plugin that removes the advertising that plagues so many sites as it is). Many features that people say have been 'removed' have simply been temporarily disabled and some have already been switched back on, and otherwise the layout is intuitive enough - if not as customisable and feature-complete as it could be. The biggest issue I can see right now is that the new site was launched way too early. It's not ready until it's ready, as the saying goes - and the lack of equivalent functionality, even if only temporary, is not a good way to introduce a piece of software that in my eyes actually has great potential.

The new site is not without problems, and some things I've enjoyed a great deal about the old layout are gone (would have been nice to at least hear about what their plans are for this - e.g. customizable sidebar instead of the lame plain-text 'about me' section'). I think the transition to Song - Artist display of the most recent tracks is misguided and presents tracks in a messier format (the focus seems to be particularly on individual tracks, I guess in line with the ephemeral and ever-changing online listening style that echoes the old 7" singles vinyl era, when the album could be completely throwaway as long as you had one good song. Not a good option though because "Artist performs song" is a more natural relationship/organisation.

Groups and journals are definitely a missed feature, the lack of responses from the development team (and just general engagement with the community) is disappointing, etc etc. Friends and Neighbours thing should have just been left alone - I, like many, dislike the idea of 'followers' (baaaaaaaaahhh). - it's less personal and even if it's simple semantics, it turns things into a popularity contest mentality rather than a community of people united around music. Events need to be reworked, - and the fact that the community has moved to 'getsatisfaction' is annoying. You don't want to juggle yet another account, even if OpenAuth allows you to login with social media sites. - Couldn't you just use your last-fm account, since it's intended to be a last.fm community, after all?

However there are positives - the albums are finally a proper feature, rather than just a tacked-on afterthought, with their own charts and stats. The old home page gives new recommendations and reminds you of the old tracks - this is great, especially for large libraries. The bar charts of listening stats are awesome too. It's still possible to scrobble with pretty much any player. I seem to be one of the few people who enjoys the new album/band 5-picture displays. A little less information, but I can live with that. It still looks clean and professional.

It's different, and not all of it's good. But hardly the reason to wail like someone just killed their entire family. Give it time and see where it goes. There are plenty of good opportunities that may materialise out of this.

it isn't clean and it's huge. Touch screen users need to remember that not everyone uses touch screen, and that PC use large amount of people, and design isn't clean nor viewable on PC.
Customization is done awfully bad since you absolutely can't get any info on music nor artist nor profile per glance like it was before.
nor new nor old users who care about music won't lose time 'encoding' to get something from this version actually.
and also we GAVE time to them. Many of us gave reviews and feedbacks in early testing stage! some proposed help in field of layout coding etc, but they DIDN'T ANSWER nor corrected any of it, they launched exactly same thing. and sorry but waiting from them something now is really unreasonable thing to do. this isn't century when they can make fools out of people by stupid and unreal reasons so we can give them a pity on destroying good service as last.fm was that.

Maybe we aren't looking at the same site? - I've looked at the site on a touchscreen/mobile device maybe once. Everything else has been from a desktop/laptop environment. I get that people don't like some things about the new design, and as I said it isn't perfect. But it's got plenty of good things on it, and lots of issues that people are complaining about are a matter of taste, as far as I'm concerned.

Hm, I don't know then for which purpose you use Last.fm?
me, - for music - storing music - gaining new experience in music - comunicating with people who have common music taste or simply who want to chat about good music.

Where in new design you can achive that?
When I go to page from my Desktop PC, first thing I see low pixeled user picture, huge font of my uername and header banner which doesn't have anything interesting on it, and only 1 song which I listened the most.
in your opinion - is it info that front page of profile should give?
2nd, when I try to scroll down page loads wrongly everyhere is show of crached things.
then I reload. when I reload now it's somehow visible, but everything is huge! so on another scrolling down on the WHOLE PAGE where so much info could be shown, I see ONLY listened tracks.
so scrolling down for info on library - NO library. Just top albums, which are huge that i need to scroll down to see Top 1st album.
then when I try to go to the field of Shoutbox  'oops, page crashed' message from Chrome.
This never happened with previous version. And nor I didn't get any info on my profile music, I just stared at unbeliveable HUGE and WIDE fonts and SIZE of widgets and everything.
Is that site good acustomizeable to you? for PC?
don't make me laugh please :)
FANCY? YES. USABLE and PRACTICAL? NO.
When I go to LIBRARY. I want to see my LIBRARY - what means music library at 1st place - ARTISTS which are listened and number of plays of that artist.
I go to see 1st thing 40 times of 1 song I listened and some graph which I absolutely don't care.
This isn't redirection option which works properly! When you go to PC's command 'My Recent Documents' you go to recent documents, and not to pool or graph of ho much time and how recently you used documents.
This is common sense of creating something. This is not playground for those who don't care about storing music info. This is serious for someone especially if those artist and their life is based on music. I can't see any usable thing for now so can artist and listener who is serious about music enjoy and use properly.
Not just features, the whole design.
And it's not metter of taste.
Alin's design is their mockup version, BUT is FAR BETTER accustomed then their garbage, so most users who actually were only on theme of 'old layout' as metter of taste thing, said that they could acctually use that new thing if changed usable like that.
and it' the same 'fancy' thing they innovated but didn't work properly. but that Alin guy designer isn't in their team so his ideas aren't to be listened.

I am talking not about taste, and I don't give a damn how it looks, old, new, alienicaly or whatever. I need USEFUL thing for storing my music info, receiving good info about new music I could give a try to, well customized accessability! and interracting with others on music basis.
new version lost everything of that. and old had it. that's a fact.

The bar charts and graphs are really interesting once you dig into them. They must never kill them off. Never, I say. Never.

Bar charts and graphs should be an optional thing, and not default thing! ex - when I go to see my LIBRARY I am redirected to some graphic of how much plays I did previous years. like wtf?! I don't need that. I want info on my music, and not hipster's tools.
that's why option exist. If you on PC go to 'My Recent Documents' it won't redirect you to graph of how much and when you used those 'recent documents.
they just didn't divide the common things and users who don't care about music in more serious way actually like such tools who are fancy and good for trolling or distracting from the main goal of visiting page.
what you named is called - Update. and should be like new tools in Updates and not New way of usage.

and the same for every feature almost which purpose drastically changed and isn't usable easy for purpose.

I don't think you like music that much, to be honest. If you did, you'd be listening to it rather than typing the same old nonsense on here time and time again. Last FM owes you nothing. If you don't like the new website, do as you said you would and close the door behind you.

I can get everyhting, but accusing me of not liking music. really an ignorant and RUDE and egocentric person from UK. who actually don't like music and what are you thinking? I don't listen music now? XD so I just am sitting and typing here?
NONSENSE? user for 7 years who used and recommended everyone this site and brought subscribed users is talking nonsense?
oh how nice of you :) I am so grateful you rude and egocentric UK person. you just showed me how your country and people from there are ignorant bastards.
Now I get that my reviews and trying to get something good of this falling site are worthless. thanks.
No Company in Europe who CARE acctually for customers would be so rude to see only own things and not accept suggestion and feedbacks of loyal users.
Last.fm owes me money I lost there, and my Music storage that I lost when they transffered data!
They should at least tell us so we can store somewhere our info.
how are you stupid sorry but now I just can say STUPID. after so much read comments from you thank yo for giving me such an sight that can show your existance :)
and I am gladly taking my leave from last.fm now I am sure this is nothing left but community of ignorant fools.
I can't use any other proper word on english that I know to describe you and your last.fm team.
Good luck then on innovaation. and I root for you to not lose so much users, since last.fm will be shut down in a year if this continues so good luck enjoying your nothingless :)

Your wonderful rant made me smile, Svetlana. I'm sure that every British person who uses this forum will appreciate your lovely thoughts about them and I'm just so glad that you took so much time and effort to make them feel so special. Anyway, I'm about to drive off for lunch now. Enjoy your music, whether it be some Japanese folk group who once toured with Frank Zappa in 1969 or Michael Buble's latest hit. Take care, dear lady. Keep smiling. Xxxxx
