RateYourMusic integration

Hello!
You have integration with Metacritic (but for some reasons it's not working with every artist's albums). What do you think about adding rateyourmusic integration as with Metacritics (show ratings from this base).

It's worth noting that Metacritic is owned by CBS, as is Last.fm, and the integration makes somewhat more sense in that context. RYM/Sonemic is not so adding any integration to promote their site (which in some areas can be seen as a competitor to Last.fm) would make less sense, although on a personal level it's something I'd like to see happen if both parties were to make it mutually beneficial.

I noticed that too. When I visit metacritic.com, and when I want to view the release that LFM is addressing it I get 404 not found. I noticed in the search bar on the top of my browser that the URL duplicated. When I remove a duplicate URL, I'm able to visit the address of an album that LFM addressed with no problem.

Can't really promise anything, but I can raise it for consideration with the product team.  What kind integration / features did you have in mind?

An advanced rating system is a feature that I would like to see on Last.fm. Maybe there is a way to connect a RYM/Sonemic account and synchronise (one-way or even two-way) personal ratings with your library. By the way, MusicBrainz has a rating function as well although it seems a little underutilised.

Why should last.fm ever allow this? Rate Your Music is trying (or at one time was) to become a scrobbling alternative to last.fm via Sonemic.  last.fm shouldn't work with a wannabe competitor.

When did RYM/Sonemic say they wanted to add a scrobbling feature? "Catalog and rate your music collection" is what they always did, as fas as I know. Direct competitors are Libre.fm and ListenBrainz, at least in theory. ListenBrainz is as well as MusicBrainz operated by the MetaBrainz Foundation, so Last.fm is already working with competitors.
I don't think that using off-site sources to improve the user experience would be a damage, even if it could help potential competitors to grow a little faster. It's mutual benefit.

It was a stretch goal in a previous fundraising campaign for Sonemic, but they didn't meet the goal and consequently scrapped the concept. Of course, they've not made any public statement that they won't attempt to implement a play logging feature down the line, but it's not part of their short or medium-term plans for Sonemic.

DjentleSoul I've been on RYM since 2004 and have no idea what you're talking about. It was never a ticket on RYMzilla. Where are you getting your information from? I'm calling it and say you're either making things up or lying. Prove your point! I'll prove mine:
https://rateyourmusic.com/rymzilla/
This is rymzilla, all tickets are there. Search for "scrobble" turns up nothing....NOTHING.

DjentleSoul may be referring to stretch goal #3 on this page, which as aforementioned was not reached and is not something that the Sonemic staff have in development. In terms of a ticket on RYMzilla, there is one for a play logging type feature here with a status of "Waiting", which on RYM means it hasn't been responded to by staff. Of course, for further clarification, you would have to ask over there.

As far as ListenBrainz goes - yes last.fm is working with a competitor but there are some instances where you have to give and take. last.fm was already using MusicBrainz and that is important for the function of last.fm. So for MusicBrainz to develop ListenBrainz to me just seemed like a trade off and since ListenBrainz has yet to amount to anything - I see no problem. About RYM/Somenic, I was referring to stretch goal #3. I don't want to see RYM/Somenic integration because it could lead to them adding scrobbling. If RYM/Somenic were to get scrobbling, I see last.fm with their first major scrobbling competitor especially if they got it where we could just simply transfer our scrobbles to their site with correct time stamps and all.  Of course, I am just speaking about a what-if.

This is RYM's description of stretch goal 3:

Our third goal would allow us to add support for tracking when you listen to music/watch a film/series, or play a game. We'll call this "logging" rather than "scrobbling"; for example, you'll have a "Music log", a "Film log", etc.

Our approach will be different from existing implementations: your listening and other data will be more accurate/clean, but will require some intervention on your part. We will give you more freedom in manually entering data, and will display detailed statistics about your listening/viewing/gaming habits. We will seamlessly integrate listening data into the rest of the site, such as displaying your # of listens next to a review, in your catalog, etc.. We won't have a "loved/banned" system since we already have ratings.

So you decided to interpret that as a last.fm "wannabe" and trying to become a last.fm competitor? Why did you even bring it up in this topic which is about RYM data integration to last.fm?

TBH, even if there were a competitor it would only be a good thing. If a competitor does a better job and people flock to that carrying over their data then last.fm would have two choices: become better themselves or don't do anything and go down. If the competitor doesn't do a better job then who cares.

Or as the old saying goes, competition's the life of trade and stimulates business.

Double post for some reason, I can't even delete.
To the topic: I'd really like to be able to scrobble to multiple services like Last.fm for increased data security but it's a pain to set up a player to be able to do that. Maybe someone could create a multi-scrobbler so we don't have to decide for a single service.
