It appears scrobbles don't work with the new version of iTunes. I have tried using the regular last.fm client and Scrobomatic. Neither work.

I got it to work with the new version but had to go about it a long way (doesn't require anything additional installed). Start by having both iTunes and the Scrobbler completely shut off and start by opening the scribbler first. Once it's open hit the 'Open iTunes' icon in the open scrobbler window and once iTunes opens play everything as normal. Haven't encountered any problems to this point that kept iTunes from working, at least none that aren't remedied by opening with the steps above.

Didn't work for me, unfortunately. I closed both programs and opened iTunes through Last.fm, but it still isn't working. I'm going to restart my laptop and try it again. I wonder if the fact that I also have Spotify open has something to do with it, even though I'm not presently playing anything in Spotify.

Okay, I restarted the laptop, opened iTunes through the Last.fm scrobbler, and it still didn't work. So then I closed iTunes, uninstalled and then reinstalled Last.fm, and opened iTunes again. It still won't scrobble. Not sure what's going on, but it would be great to figure out a way to fix this.

Uninstall the scrobbler, and make sure when you reinstall it, you change the folder from Program files (x86) to just Program files, the same folder in which iTunes is installed. Install the plug-in for iTunes in both Program files (x86) and Program files; and everything works again. I have iTunes 12.4.0.119 and scrobbler 2.1.37

I followed your steps but they didnt solve the issue. Running the diagnostics on the scrobbler the "Itunes is not running" is still there, I cannot launch itunes directly from the scrobbler (it works with winamp and windows media thing), It scrobbles the songs being played on Itunes BUT not those being played on the ipod and synced. Any other idea to test would be welcome.

Yeah, I have tried so many things, and I still can't scrobble from iTunes on my Macbook. I don't have the same issue when I'm listing on Spotify, so I I'm not sure what the issue is. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Last.fm scrobbler more than once, and I'll open iTunes through the scrobbler, but nothing seems to work. It would be great if Last.fm could address this issue. I just paid $36 for a yearlong subscription a few weeks ago, but what's the point if I can't scrobble a large portion of the music I'm listening to?

Finally, after reinstalling the scrobbler several times, i have the scrobbling from itunes + ipod working again. Among all the stuff I tried, i reinstalled iTunes itself, so I would recommend those facing the same issues to reinstall both itunes and the scrobbler, and to do it in the program files folder.

I have just encountered this same issue, desktop scrobbler not functioning following an auto update of iTunes. I too uninstalled/reinstalled scrobbler app, it functioned for a handful of tracks & then checked out again. I have wasted countless hours attempting to 'kick-start' without success.
I noticed this thread is from 2 months ago & wondered if there is an 'Official' fix or plug-in update specifically related to/for iTunes as yet?  Anyone? last.fm?

I'm with Kimberly. Is there a moderator who can give an update?

I've been scrobbling for 10 years and now suddenly I can't use my itunes or ipod to scrobble

Have you tried the installing the latest version of iTunes 64-bit For Older Video Cards, and see if iTunes scrobbles again?
That tends to work for some users who run into this issue.

I tried that with no luck last week.

But then retried, rebooted and stopped trying to make it work... then it did.

Thank you for the link!

I really wish I didn't upgrade itunes. Everything was working fine on 12.3. After upgrading to 12.4 and following all the suggestions in this thread I can not get last.fm to recognize that itunes is running. As I only scrobble from my ipod I'm really close to finally giving up on last.fm
