system: windows 7, firefox v48.0.2

I pressed "play mix link" the spotify application flashed like it needed my attention and then nothing happened. Just for interest sake I looked at firebugs console to see what errors are throwing up:

It looks like you guys were sending stuff to the console as well, any ideas on what the issue is? Youtube works fine, it's just the spotify that's playing up.

Direct Spotify playback of Last.fm radio stations and on-demand lists only works in their desktop client yet, not in their web player or mobile apps.

OK, have you tried it with another browser yet? I once had a similar problem with Chrome and the BitDefender antivirus software which seemed to block playback of Last.fm radio stations in the Spotify desktop client for three minutes. When I installed Avira Antivirus, this issue was gone.

And sometimes it's the Spotify software which is behaving strangely, e.g. after ads it will pause the playback and will not continue until you close and reopen it.

annoyingly Chrome works well, So it's just a firefox issue (I use firefox because it can interact with Growl for Windows which is handy)

Maybe this old browser extension would work as well:

And have you tried to disable your antivirus for testing? Which one do you use?

I see, so there could also be network admin restrictions in the firewall that block this feature.

I am using Window 10 Pro, Firefox 49.01 and the Spotify desktop app Version 1.0.38.171. The Spotify desktop app begins to flash but doesn't start playing my last.fm library or mix. Playing my mix with YouTube works fine. Spotify works also fine when launched from last.fm running in the Edge Browser. The Firefox-->Spotify connection used to work until about August 2016 or so.

Do you see any error messages in the Last.fm header / playbar?  For me it failed the first time (spotify launched, did nothing), but worked after a page refresh.  I've flagged this with our developers to investigate for you.

Hi Daniel, if you can control Spotify from Last.fm fine from Edge, maybe something is up with your Firefox install? Can you try running it with any plugins disabled?

Hi Thomas and Jon

Thank you for answering. In the meantime I have the same behaviour when I use Edge or Internet Explorer: Last.fm says "Connecting Spotify...", Spotify opens but doesn't start any song.

I deactivated all the plugins and add-ons in Firefox. There is no additional error message in last.fm. The remaining way to listen to music is youtube now, which is not really satisfying.

What do you recommend to me?

Thanks again, Daniel

Same issue here... but in Firefox and Edge. Internet Explorer and Chrome work fine.
