Suddenly without doing anything last.fm stopped scrobbling from my spotify

I tried to disconnect the spotify from last.fm and return but it still didn't work.

What can I do?

I made a second last.fm account to see if it was a problem with last.fm or with spotify, and the new account received the scrobbles from spotify.

Here is a list of troubleshooting methods I have tried:

  • Disconnect and reconnect spotify from my last.fm account

  • Delete the spotify app

  • Clear browser cache

  • Turn spotify to private mode then back to public

  • Delete last.fm api in the account settings

After doing all of this I am still not able to receive scrobbles on my primary account.

Hi, what's your main last.fm username and the username of the second last.fm account?

Ok, first, make sure you've disconnected the second Last.fm account from your spotify, as you won't be able to connect your main account to it otherwise.
  1. Once you've done that go to your Last.fm account settings, and disconnect Spotify: https://www.last.fm/settings/applications
  2. Next, go to your Spotify settings and disconnect anything related to last.fm: https://www.spotify.com/us/account/apps/
  3. Now go here and choose sign out everywhere: https://www.spotify.com/us/account/overview/ (this will sign you out of everything so make sure you have your spotify password handy)
  4. You might have to wait a bit - I'd give it 15 mins at least
  5. Now log in to the Spotify desktop app as normal
  6. Now connect your Last.fm account to spotify here: https://www.last.fm/settings/applications
  7. Stream a track to verify that it's scrobbling again

First of all thank you very much for the help.

Hmm, ok thanks.  Can you try something else for me?

In the web player there should be a green bar at the bottom that says "You're listening on...." and the name of your computer.  Similarly in the desktop app, near the volume control the device icon should say "devices available" and list both your computer and web browser, like this:

Do you see this, or does the desktop app not recognise the web player?

Hmm, then it should scrobble without issue -- you're streaming tracks, not playing local files?  All I can suggest it you try steps 1-3 in the evening before turning your computer off, then do 5 - 7 the following morning.

Also check to see if the songs that didn't scrobble have now come back. I listened to 8 songs on Spotify yesterday, the first 2 scrobbled and the last 6 did not. Just now, 27 hours later the missing 6 songs have appeared, so it may also be the same for you.

(I should add that I played a few songs on the last.fm site itself and scrobbled from Windows media player in this time with no issues, just seemed to be Spotify)

Did this issue ever get fixed for you? I'm having the exact same problem. I created a second account and then the scrobbling magically worked again. Still doesn't work on my main account.

I was scrobbling and then it stopped. I made a new last.fm and new Spotify, it worked. Then it stopped after a day, I have disconnected and reconnected last.fm app settings page , updated Spotify app, I also have logged out if Spotify and stopped queue as well. Lost on what to do

This is so frustrating. I'm pretty sure it means that it's an issue on last.FM's part but I'm not sure why it's only happening to a select few of us. I'm going to email lastfm support in the morning to see if I can get us any more help.

I'm gonna try making a new spotify account to see if that works because I'm kind of out of ideas at this point. I really don't want to make a new account because I'll lose around 60k scrobbles.

So I understand this correctly: you're able to scrobble from your main Spotify account to your new last.fm account, but not from your main spotify account to your main last.fm account, is that right?  Or is it working with your new spotify and new last.fm accounts only?

Can you please tell me both of your last.fm usernames (the one that's working and the one that isn't), and both of your Spotify accounts -- you can create a new private topic if you don't want to share this information in the public forum.

Also, can you please tell me whether you're using the desktop, mobile, or web version of Spotify, what the version number of the app is, as well as your operating system version.

Finally, if possible, can you please try scrobbling from the Spotify desktop, mobile, and web player, using your main Last.fm and spotify accounts, and let us know if the problem persists across all devices/apps, or just some.

Thanks.

Hi Julio,

Can you please first try the following:
Once you've done that, please try scrobbling from the Spotify desktop, mobile, and web player, and let us know if the problem persists across all devices/apps, or just some.

If you're still having issues, then please let us know:

  • Your Last.fm username.
  • Link to your Spotify profile (you can post this in a private topic if you prefer not to disclose it publicly).
  • The version number of the Spotify app(s) you're using.
  • The device / operating system version you're using.
Thanks.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Spotify not scrobbling?.

Songs I play through spotify are no longer showing up as scrobbling. They don't even appear as 'now listening'. I have tried updating my spotify, disallowing and reallowing last.fm access to spotify, reinstalling spotify etc, none of it seems to work. I have downloaded the desktop scrobbler app and that works just fine but spotify wont work.

If you're having problems connecting or reconnecting the Spotify scrobbler, that is: you've definitely connected to your main Spotify account on this page but no music is being scrobbled to your profile (and private session is turned off).

Can you please first try the following:
Once you've done that, please try scrobbling from the Spotify desktop, mobile, and web player, and let us know if the problem persists across all devices/apps, or just some.  Please be sure to stream a track, and not play a local file.

If you're still having issues, then please let us know:
  • Your Last.fm username.
  • The version number of the Spotify app(s) you're using.
  • The device / operating system version you're using.
Thanks.

Hi Dylan, nothing conclusive yet - the investigation is ongoing.  One thing I've been asked by the team is if you can confirm whether you have private session in Spotify enabled or not -- I'm assuming no, but we need to double check.  We also need to check whether you're listening in offline mode (e.g. downloaded tracks) or not.

Mine was fixed by: Logging out of Last.fm and Spotify everywhere, deleting Spotify on my phone, clearing cache on my phone, then redownloading Spotify, and finally a forced update. After all of that I reconnected the accounts. Not sure what fixed it but that's what happened. No sign of any lost scrobbles from when it was out though.

  • The device / operating system version you're using.
Do the tracks from before scrobble when you connect back to wi-fi?

Thanks, that's probably just a network issue then - it's not really something we can solve on our side, as that's just how Spotify's api works. The offline scrobbler is designed to catch and resubmit any dropped scrobbles when you're offline or have an unreliable network, and it sounds like that's what it's doing.

And honestly, it hasn't been working properly since May 30th. I've been having to delete my Spotify app and reinstall it anytime I want scrobbling to work, but now that isn't working either. I've made a topic and got grouped in with another one and "solved" but it was never working how it's supposed to.

Hi John, can you please try the following:
Once you've done that, please try scrobbling from the Spotify desktop, iphone, and web player, and let us know if the problem persists across all devices/apps, or just some.

Then, even if it doesn't appear to be scrobbling, can you keep listening to music for a bit -- I want to check if we're receiving any data or not.

Thanks John, I can see you're connected, but the only data we have from Spotify is "Favorite Thing" by "The Replacements", which appears to have been played earlier today.  Is that the only track you've played recently?

Can you please try playing an album or playlist, but don't disconnect / reconnect Spotify.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Scrobbles not showing up.

Scrobbling for me hasn't worked for about five hours. A couple of tracks showed up (duplicated) four hours ago, but that's it. I read that a similar issue a few hours ago was supposedly fixed but not for me (neither in the recent tracks list or appearing as 'playing now').

I'm playing music from Spotify to a Sonos system. It was working just fine until five hours ago. My username is number1alien.

If not, can you please first the following:
Once you've done that, please try scrobbling from the Spotify desktop, mobile, and web player, and let us know if the problem persists across all devices/apps, or just some.  It would also be helpful to know the last track(s) you've played in spotify as well.

*Looks like some of my scrobble showed up. However, there are double scrobbles for several songs.

After following the steps defined by Jon, I still have a problem scrobbling from the Spotify web player and Spotify mobile app. However, I can scrobble by using the Sonos mobile app.

I usually use (and would prefer to use) the web player and not the Sonos app.

Last.fm user: tojomofo
Spotify mobile app version: 8.5.23.686

phone device: pixel 2
desktop device: Google Pixelbook: GA00122-US: OS: Version 77.0.3865.63

*Scrobble from web player  disappears. After the song finished playing on the Spotify web player the track was not logged.

Hi Jon,

Still I have problems. I'm able to scrobble if I use the Sonos Android app on my phone. I cannot scrobble using the webpage or the spotify app. Occasionally, when I try the Spotify app, I can see the current song listed on the Last.fm page but when the song finishes, the entry is not logged to my scrobble list and disappears from the history.

Thanks

Yes, I think we've identified the problem and are working on a fix.  We've also contacted Spotify as the problem was triggered by their api sending us an invalid timestamp for one of your scrobbles.

However, this could take us a few weeks to fix, so you might want to switch to the web scrobbler for scrobbling spotify for now.

How to set it up:
  • Get the browser extension here (it supports Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and several others)
  • Open the extension settings to connect your Last.fm account and make sure that Spotify scrobbling is enabled.
  • Open the Spotify web player in a background tab and login: https://open.spotify.com/browse/featured
Once you've done this, simply open the Spotify Desktop or Mobile app, and start playing your music. The music should start playing in your preferred app, but will be scrobbled via the web scrobbler browser extension.
