Submit suggested associations between database entries and music catalogue entries

I know the music catalogue is an ongoing behemoth of a task, but I have an idea for a new feature suggestion that could help.

I'm aware that you have the simplistic "Is this the correct name for this artist/song/album?" yes/no votes, but I was wondering about adding an ability for users to submit an associated catalogue entry URL from MusicBrainz, Discogs, or similar.

I've noticed sometimes entries get overlooked by Last FM's catalogue syncs, or sometimes lose their tracklisting for some reason. It could work as a manual, hard link to help patch over glitches, errors and omissions within the catalogue.

As with MusicBrainz, for example, you could allow a single user to affect catalogue changes with a single submission - provided the URL they submit is a valid MusicBrainz or Discogs one.

While the voting system you have is user friendly, it is very dependent on a lot of users/votes to be meaningful. You can see how ineffective a simple yes/no vote can be with the up/down votes that go on within the image libraries of artists with an inactive/non-interactive listener base. Extrapolating to artist/track/album votes, I question how effective this system is, apart from for artists with a large listener base. This is why I would suggest, if you like this idea, allowing single submissions to update the catalogue.

Great idea. Traditionally Last.fm relies a great deal on user-aggregated data and this falls right in line with that.

A prime example of why this would be a massively beneficial feature:

Michael Jackson's Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix album page (which has 25,000 listeners) is missing a track list/release date, etc. Here is the corresponding MusicBrainz entry that should be populating this page.

On a related note, the single release has a correctly populated page, but listeners have (frustratingly and incorrectly) uploaded and upvoted the artwork for the album and not the single.

It would be helpful to have a way of reporting artwork, beyond being inappropriate because it's offensive, etc. There's a far greater need for a facility to report the wrong artwork. Perhaps giving moderating powers to some select users would be a way forward...
