I'm a subscriber. When I'm logged in, the ads are gone. But aren't they supposed not to show up on my profile in the first place?

I don't see the problem here. Subscribers get no ads, and you have no ads. Seems fine.

What exactly are you asking?

When I'm not logged in, there are ads visible on my profile page. They weren't there on the old site.

Well, if you're not logged in, you'll be considered as another kind of user or a browser of the site. That's fairly obvious, I would have thought.

Duh. But as a subscriber, one of the benefits was NO ADS on the profile page. Even when I wasn't signed in.

I'm just wondering if that benefit will return or not. It was one of the reasons for taking a subscription in the first place.

Come on, it's not that stupid a question ;-)

Hi Jay, I've checked with the team and it you're right, this changed.  It was removed from the list of subscriber perks on the /subscribe page a year ago, and removed from the site functionality this week when moved to the new site.  From what I've been told so far, I'm very sorry, but I don't think it's coming back as a subscriber benefit.

:-) Sorry but kinda is (stupid question).

If you're not logged on, how do you expect last.fm site to know that you is you ?!?
The only mean of doing this is by logging in, right ?
If you're logged of, than you are NOT a user on last.fm, and you'll just see ads even on your homepage.
This is normal behaviour on every site that gives this as an advantage to paying users.

I think you failed to understand what those benefits of a subscriber are.
Subscribing does NOT mean that your homepage will not have ads on it when some anonymous user visits it ! (and even if they would've implemented it like this, what about every other last.fm page that exists ?!? you expect them also to lack ads as well ? when you visit all those pages logged off ?

Common, try to reason for a bit...

@Cornel You don't understand it Cornel. People who browsed a profile page of a subscriber wouldn't get ads in the old days. I think that is what Jay means. :)

No Chris, it wasn't.

https://secure.last.fm/subscribe

As a subscriber, you'll get these benefits:

  • No banner ads on the Last.fm website and mobile apps (excludes ads on 3rd party video content from YouTube, Vevo, etc.)
  • 30% discount on Last.fm merchandise*
  • Black badge on your Last.fm profile picture to show you are a subscriber

But how on earth is the website going to know if you are a subscriber or not if you haven't logged in? If you don't want to see ads, all you have to do is keep yourself logged in like I do.

Exactly as I said. When anyone visited my profile, whether logged in or not, they wouldn't see ads on my profile opposed to visible ads on a random profile from a non-subscriber.

Back to square one. ;-)

Let me refrase the initial question, in the hope of getting a response from the Last.Fm team:
If I continue my subscription, will there be no banner ads on my profile page visible to visitors?

I don't want anymone to see ads when they visit my profile. This is the only reason why I've been a subscriber for 9 years.

So, popisbeautiful has the same issue. I'd like an official response, if it's not too much to ask? I'm on scrobbler/last.fm since July 2004!

I'm not sure if removing all the features users liked, and adding more and more ads will save Last.fm.
