This picture has 7 downvotes and just 1 upvote but it won't disappear from the first place. And the quality of the image is terrible.

Can someone from the staff remove it?

There's no need now, I upvoted other pictures and downvoted this one. Now it's somewhere deeper.

Also, I doubt staff can remove valid pictures, with just bad quality.

You haven't figured out how image ranking works? Votes aren't the only factor, the older the image is the more firm its position in the ranking is. Seeing as it's a 2006 upload it's takes way more downvotes to take it off its position.

Upload date isn't taken into account when determining the order.  It's the sum of votes, but heavily skewed towards recent votes -- I'm trying to get this changed because people keep complaining about the galleries being gamed.

I actually thought it was the other way around (i.e. older votes count more), since some old images seem to be so hard to shift - noticeable for artists who don't have a large listener base, so it's difficult to get fresh voting going on.

If anything, it would make marginally more sense for recent votes to count more, since they are effectively the active users who are affeceted by the current look of artist pages. Lots of the old votes are likely cast by inactive users.

That said, I think it's easier and better to keep the democracy simpler by giving all votes, regardless of time frame, the same weighting.

So why a picture with 1 like (not so recently one, it seems) and 4 dislikes (with my recent dislike) is at first position, and another one with 4 likes (with my recent like) and 0 dislikes is at second position?

Still voting to make it possible that we can choose our own picture for an artist's page :)
