On the old site was information about when user was last time online on site, for example:
"last time user was online 2 days ago"

Will you return this function on this new site?

Come back in a year and they might give you a solid "maybe".

Another useful feature I miss. This was helpful to know if someone was still using the site but had just stopped scrobbling. Now it's hard to tell.

Maybe even a status option on our profiles. Online/ Offline/ Away/ Busy etc.

It would be interesting if they could fold that into a sort of on-site IM feature as well, but maybe that would be too much of a server load?

Yeah that would be cool. But if loading more than 50 artists per page in your library can't be done due to performance issues, I very much doubt it! That would actually be really useful though. Talking in shouts and private messages is so slow, especially without any email notifications.

I've set this to under consideration, because the team have yet discuss where it fits in their priorities.  Some members of the team feel that it might be too invasive to be left on by default, and would require an additional privacy setting.  So I'm interested to know what people think about this - is it too invasive, or do you think there's no harm in letting people know when you were last online?

If this wasn't an issue on the old site, why would it be a problem now? Personally I'm fine with this. Information about if I'm currently online or when I was last online is already available in my "Recent Tracks". I guess you could add an option to disable it? I don't quite understand how on a (social) website that shows every single song someone listens to and when they listened to it, suddenly knowing when a user was last online is seen as invasive.

I guess looking at the recent tracks actually makes this idea slightly redundant, which is why I suggested some form of status option. Knowing when someone's online (even if they're not actively Scrobbling) is, in my opinion, much more useful than knowing when someone was last online. With the lack of notifications for shouts, an online/ offline/ away/ busy status could also streamline communication between users.

Also, shout notifications. Shouldn't that be a priority too? It's rather difficult to talk with other users when they have no idea you're actually trying to start a conversation with them! Too many instances of "Oh hey, sorry my reply is a month late..."

As for me, the best way is to not mention the exact time. For example, I would like these options:

- Last time online: today
- Last time online: yesterday
- Last time online: May 25
So we could understand is the user actually visit last.fm but not bother his privacy.

And please, we desperately need notifications about shouts in our shoutboxes.

Yes, for some people it might be too invasive, so additional privacy setting would be nice.

On the old last.fm if user's recent track was hidden (now it's called "Hide recent listening information"), then site didn't show that line about when user was last time online.

@James Joul, Actually, you can't determine when the last time a user was on the site just by looking at their recent track history. Take for an example, a user is connected to the internet and is actively scrobbling ATM but haven't logged in for almost a year or so.

Also, we really really REALLY need a notification for when someone follows you. I've followed tons of people but they probably have no idea...sneaky sneaky ;-)

^ Yes, you're right. But just knowing when someone was last online is not really useful. There's not much you can do with that information. Incorporate that with a current status however, and you have something. "Oh, my friend is online! Let's chat with them."

And we definitely need some notifications, and we already have them for private messages. Currently, talking with people is slow and difficult. Remember in the past how you'd make 'friends' with other people? I miss that.

On the old site you had the option to hide your online activity. Not sure if this was included in that, but it could be an option if people feel it's too invasive or maybe just an option to remain "hidden".
