Ever since the "update", I've maybe visited a page that wasn't my profile a total of maybe ten times. Rateyourmusic.com has largely replaced what I used to use Last.fm for (finding new bands or bands similar to bands I'm currently listening to), and that makes me sad. That was Last.fm's "niche" and you guys all but obliterated it with some of the most baffling and nonsensical design decisions I've ever seen made by a major website/corporation. What makes me even sadder is the seemingly nonchalant attitude from the Last.fm staff at large. It just seems like you guys don't care about your website nearly as much as we, the users, do. Most of the responses we get to our issues/complaints are non-committal such as promising a requested feature "in the future" with no elaboration on how far along into the future we're talking about. Put bluntly, I wasn't optimistic when this Last.fm beta started and I've seen almost nothing to quell those concerns. You hacked out several beloved features with this beta and now we have to sit around for a year to maybe see them reinstated? What kind of insanity is that?
I'm not going to go through a list of the features that are missing or changes I'd like to see because those have already been repeated a dozen times over by your community and you should know the problems by now. At this point, the only reason I'm even still around is A) out of habit and I guess the attachment that comes from joining this site back in 2006 and B) the lack of any real alternatives...That second point is important because if there were any alternatives, I would be gone in a heartbeat, which makes me sad because I loved this site. I joined this site because I love music and didn't (and still don't) care for social media. I want to stay, but I'm really finding it hard to find a reason keeping me around outside of simple habit.
P.S: One more feature that I miss is simply having album art next to the tracks we've recently played or are playing. It's a minor feature but one that I always liked and can see no benefit to removing. Just one of a hundred little changes that add up to make this site less than what it once was...
