What I mean by this is simple. I primarily used this site to find new artists or artists similar to ones I was already listening to and enjoying. It was a great way to diversify my music taste and get/give recommendations from and to other users. That aspect of the site was more or less demolished when you decided to take away our charts and replace them with a "chart" consisting of five (5) artists...and that's it. We went from 8 artists and a list of a custom amount of up to 50 artists down to...five. I'm still waiting for an explanation on that change because it remains one of the worst changes that was made. I didn't really make much use of the groups, but I know that some people did and the outright removal of groups just makes this site that much more anti-social which seems counter-intuitive to the supposed point of this site, which (as I understood it) is to discover and share music with others.

Ever since the "update", I've maybe visited a page that wasn't my profile a total of maybe ten times. Rateyourmusic.com has largely replaced what I used to use Last.fm for (finding new bands or bands similar to bands I'm currently listening to), and that makes me sad. That was Last.fm's "niche" and you guys all but obliterated it with some of the most baffling and nonsensical design decisions I've ever seen made by a major website/corporation. What makes me even sadder is the seemingly nonchalant attitude from the Last.fm staff at large. It just seems like you guys don't care about your website nearly as much as we, the users, do. Most of the responses we get to our issues/complaints are non-committal such as promising a requested feature "in the future" with no elaboration on how far along into the future we're talking about. Put bluntly, I wasn't optimistic when this Last.fm beta started and I've seen almost nothing to quell those concerns. You hacked out several beloved features with this beta and now we have to sit around for a year to maybe see them reinstated? What kind of insanity is that?

I'm not going to go through a list of the features that are missing or changes I'd like to see because those have already been repeated a dozen times over by your community and you should know the problems by now. At this point, the only reason I'm even still around is A) out of habit and I guess the attachment that comes from joining this site back in 2006 and B) the lack of any real alternatives...That second point is important because if there were any alternatives, I would be gone in a heartbeat, which makes me sad because I loved this site. I joined this site because I love music and didn't (and still don't) care for social media. I want to stay, but I'm really finding it hard to find a reason keeping me around outside of simple habit.

P.S: One more feature that I miss is simply having album art next to the tracks we've recently played or are playing. It's a minor feature but one that I always liked and can see no benefit to removing. Just one of a hundred little changes that add up to make this site less than what it once was...

I read your posts and thought how come none of the developers can see what Last Fm means to us, there are many posts like this from so many of us who want this site back the way it was. Why can't they reassure us that the site will be back to its original version, why can't they talk to us at least, hear us for god's sake! I am appalled by the indifference of some people, by the total inadequate responses, however few there were, from the developers. I am so agree with everything you said, the same way I agree with many others whose plea is left ignored. I hope, I really hope that the Last Fm developers will realise how much the site means to its users and that your message like other messages will be heard and answered in the the manner that they deserve. The best of luck to you and all of us I guess...

I think the reason why developers are making so many mistakes here, is the fact that they aren't actually Last.fm users. I am sure they were sucessful at designing some other websites, but they clearly don't know what we need and want.

I don't think that's true. James Scott (jammus), the lead web developer has 35K scrobbles from Feb 2008, and others on the staff page have 30-75K from 2006-2008. They are users, they just probably see that the previous page (esp. on mobile) isn't suitable for general audiences. I'm not sure what the strategy is, but it doesn't cater to power users like us. If you look at spotify etc. they're also not concerned with our niche features.

Maybe they do use Last.fm to keep track of their plays, but are they actively using it for things other than just the simple scrobbling?

As many peolpe have said before - Last.fm is not just a 'tool' to keep our music history. It's so much beyond it.

no mud throwing please; (the bandwagon supporters were tossed) but this is very important, like Alin above wrote, these are some awesome posts, honest, demi-professional  - this post is getting buried below the comments made the last 16 hours, and I know this post were made over the last 24 hours (max my time) below damarys?

Ivan (you look so cute) where did you find staff profiles & could you actually leave messages?

Hi,

I'm not sure why this was tagged as not planned - that's incorrect.  We're planning to do this as it's by far the most requested feature on the old site; but there are several details/considerations to work out before we can begin implementing this -- so I can't give you an ETA. There are also other immediate priorities we need to resolve first concerning the launch of the new site (firefighting, missing features, etc.), so it's still a ways off unfortunately.  Once I have more concrete information, we'll definitely let you know.

I am not happy with that kind of answer, and we had several months of input that seemly went ignored before the live surprise. Keep this forum going, we are in a pattern of stopping what we are starting it seems to me (?).

I have seen one Mod post here, unclear if it is part of "lost" groups?

https://www.reddit.com/r/lastfm/  & Nick Calafato is listed on Twitter as the music partnership rustler at the service, in the tech news he was quoted as saying the site is “busy totally re-platforming and re-designing Last.fm from top to bottom"

Top to bottom is for sure.

https://twitter.com/nickcalafato/status/606575303247429635

Maybe you can get 'real' answers there?

I am more peeved at Get-a-satisfaction-life at the moment.

I have a profile with this festive photo, says wrong password, sends a form, then reads' "this email is taken," their forums are set up like here, and same deal no one answers? or years old. I think this is the low rent deal lol

They spend their time here blocking communication, this site I have seen messages merged with other comments, which isn't the issue, the issue is if a person has time to do that well?

They have time to answer the users

If they are to use another company for forums, that has a mission to network, share, come up with solutions collectively, then why are they not using this networking concept or is 'get' so strapped for capital it rents AA rooms? or the new Music Addicts need Answers

So the Reddit has what looks to be an official Header with the Last FM name?

Hope it helps? Hope some answers evolve out of this.

Canada had its Elections in the House and the pro people parties slammed the pro USA conservatives out, very good 'today' here!

It’s the Celtic harvest festival of all Hallows' Eve, you know the feast of low wage zombie peoples, soon too, this Sat. 31st., okay no back talk Mr.

Picture this, you forgot your password (they say) to reset account give us your email and open, click welcome-mat and reset. Easy right, you open your mail, Bing!

Welcome to Get my Shirts White, put in new password and repeat, sorry this email is being used (Well yea?), the messed up part is I can believe it, I expect this nonsense.

I think it is wise to know all the bad in a bad world, that is where the saying "shit Happens" came from, can I get an agree?

So it would be proper, seeing that is the nicest thing you written my way, to say Hi - so Hi Shadow, need an answer? Get in line ;)

Sure, everybody must've heard of Halloween at one point or another. Its just that for a second there, It looked like some sort of a cannibalistic feast thing going on.

Hmm...well there are two possible explanations I can offer for this mind-boggling mystery:
1. There is some sort of weird bug and the system thought your Email was used to register for more than one account?
2. You may have messed with the wrong people amidst your constant, unwavering search for answers around here. So someone at the GetSatisfaction back end has it for ya now and just wants to mess with your head.

Well Hi right back at ya :) You're "Eat" aren't ya? Formerly known as "Krs1qT" see? I never forget a soul ;-)
"seeing that is the nicest thing you written my way" - Umm, how can this be? I believe we've only had a brief exchange a while ago. I recall receiving a most lovely personal description of me, containing the words; condescending, banal and bored...well to be fair I WAS bored back then, but there is no way in hell for the first two to be true! :( I believe someone owes me a heartfelt apology ;)

Yes; why is there a rule to keep same name and picture?

See, you are being what we call children a smartass. You are trying to start shit, it won't happen, but you will be left with some happy feelings.

SLeon' Shadowman;

Whoever you are trying to impress is beyond me, you seem to be very (again) bored. You are a mean person and you like it.

You Won if you wanted me out of this forum, so cheer & hoot, drink up and feel good you did the corporation's work nicely --- KRS1QTEATKRS1

@krs1 - If you click the arrow next to your name at the top of the page, click "Profile Information", then on the next page click "Profile Information" again, there's a page where you can change your name, picture, email, etc.  I don't think you can change your profile address more than once though.

@krs1 - Last time I checked I wasn't this "SLeon" person you spoke of, whomever that may be...I'm just me.
I was just teasing and being playfully sarcastic, its my way of being friendly, not trying to impress nor piss you off, apologies if you felt that way.

I'll just leave you to your own then :)

I agree with a lot of what you say, but then it depends on how you use it. I pretty much only ever used last.fm for scrobbling and for music suggestions.  Scrobbling still works, and 2 months after the update I'm still taking suggestions of the homepage and they're just as good as they ever were (for me, anyway - I know a lot of people aren't having the same experience).

In the same vein, one of the biggest issues I'm having now is with the API. I maintain a couple of apps that use the last.fm api (mainly around events) and both of them are now dead because the site update basically borked the entire event API.  While I'm generally pretty forgiving of the actual breaking of stuff, it's doing my head in that no-one at last.fm will give a firm answer on when it'll be fixed (or if it'll be fixed at all). I'm not even asking for exact dates - in most cases, even a "yeah it's coming back and it'll be in the next 6 months" will be enough to at least stop me wondering whether I should switch to using a different service for pulling in the data. None of them are profit making apps, so I can't really commit to spending a week updating something just for last.fm to randomly announce the next day that it's back online again.

The new design I like. The taking away of features I can live with. It's the long, protracted silences and vague, non-conmittal answers on what is/isn't coming back that's starting to annoy me. If you know, say. If you don't know, say.  If someone's already asked the same question and I missed it, tell me and I'll search for forums and find it. Literally, anything more than "We're working on it" would be a bonus right now.

Why does it appear this comment/feedback forum is being shoved and tucked away – I know! Its ripe, real, and needs an answer and that is the primary problem no answers, planned, acknowledged, not a problem? lol

Yet, it is articulate enough to dodge, up above; this has to be a merge set up, and of course they aren’t driving people away, the non-functional is a trade off for the power puff fluff Partridge Family Live at Leeds 'Look,' there were new listeners last week, while the older fly, the younger come in and buy, looks like its for young people under 18. Spotty makes out sucking what's left of the music out of here.

Sounds like a plan, but wait there is more (drum roll) Apple Music, and I was actually surprised at the underground-alternative artist I found, even bandcamp support. So Spot need to beef up, it bought that other service 'nest' last year.

Regardless, it’s the new style merger Nail it in the Head (it is sad in many ways) I don't really think any staff that mattered is here at present? this really once was great, even a few years after the sale to the Murdoch Family, Inc.

P.S. I miss lurking around and checking out the about me's, some creative goodies, some actual stories. And I hope what I think is wrong ~a.k.a. Eat

FYI (you too Boogie Down)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/quietscrob-background-last.fm/id741599377?mt=8

Their (Apple) comment pages echo the long wait for the updates to stop here (L-FM), but from some Igossip it appears it might import/export scrobbles, on other hand below is fairly accurate because the actual artists are supporting Apple.

http://www.billboard.com/articles/business/6494979/fight-between-apple-and-spotify-could-change-digital-music-labels-said-to

Meanwhile; Sony? And then all this secrecy?

So I think most can agree not knowing what's going on here sucks.

The above sites are not an attack against the corporation, I firmly think the rationale is; this is the new direction like it or not, the corporation is trying to adapt, and I blame those in charge, which would include Warner Management for lack of oversight and waiting to very last second to implement change. But there seems like thousands of us willing to help before we kill each other.

I don’t understand why a customer’s feedback is not important and there are some computer savvy people here telling the lead developer what the actual problem is? This is clearly an extreme negative consequence of social change, perhaps pride is getting in the way, legal matters, Back to point A “?”

Look at the login page – snazzy (sorry about that)

But lets not let this putz; there is plenty of features & functionality that should be kept, that would draw in new people with the make over.
